INTRODUCTIONWHAT IS A SOLAR ENERGY??

. The energy that we receive from the sun is called as the solar energy.

With the help of this energy serious problems regarding energy that is needed everyday can be solved. Solar energy means capturing the rays of the sun and storing and its heat.

This heat can be converted with the help of solar panels into heat or electrical energy.

When we talk about solar energy, there are two kinds of solar energy namely, thermal energy and electrical energy

INTRODUCTION{CONTD}

Talking about electric energy , the power of sun is used to produce electricity with the help of solar cells.

It can be used through a solar home system that helps in conducting electricity where there is no power supply

Apart from that it can be used a system where the electricity supplying utility is connected to property.

It can be used as a backup system where there are frequent load shedding problems.

IT’S IMPORTANCE!!!! As mentioned before solar energy is required

and is important for survival of life on earth. Not only human beings, plants, animals

everyone requires solar energy every day. Plants require solar energy to produce oxygen, prepare food i.e. photosynthesis.

Solar energy is required to produce both pure and saltwater in oceans as it is the only source of melting the frozen ice formed on the mountain caps.

Apart from that the electricity which we get to run various machines is all gained from the solar energy, thus its importance and existence is very important on a planet where there is life.

oIMPORTANCE {CONTD.} Solar energy is a clean and renewable energy.

Also it’s versatile and can help in producing power for watches and calculators that do not run on batteries

. It’s a clean energy because it is received directly from the sun. The fossil fuels and other gas and oil that are extracted from the mines are non renewable energy.

Also they are costly and cause lot of pollution. But solar energy is something that is renewable and can be used for lots of activities.

Also it is available free of cost. As fossil fuels and other oils are soon going to disappear solar energy which is available in abundant should be utilized well and hence is important.

IT’S ADVANTAGES An energy that is totally free of cost and saves your money

as the Sun is always going to be there. It is an environment friendly energy and hence does not

create pollution. Provides electricity that is helps in producing electricity with

the help of solar panels. As we know solar energy is one such energy that is

abundantly available and is free of cost, let’s have a look at some of its advantage

A silent energy provider as the solar cells do not create sounds while extracting heat from the sun and producing electricity.

Solar energy helps in reducing the electricity bill. The solar energy system can work independently without

any connection and can be utilized and installed in remote areas too where there is no sign of electricity.

Solar energy helps in decreasing the harmful gasses and does not contribute to acid rains, global warming, forest destruction and other natural disasters.

ADVANTAGES!!!!!!

IT’S DISADVANTAGES Solar energy can be used only during the daytime i.e. when the

sun is shining bright The solar collectors, panels and cells that are used to absorb

heat from the sun are very expensive In case of cloudy climate, there would be no signs of sun and

solar energy which is difficult. The solar batteries that are charged or needs to be charged are

very heavy and require large storage space. Replacing it is also difficult.

Its low in efficiency and requires lots of land area There is no consistency because the devices that require energy

of the sun will only work if the delivery of photons is consistent. Replacing the solar energy panels is also a very difficult job. Installation of solar energy requires large area so that the system

can provide good amount of electricity. This is a great disadvantage in places where the area is small

It is quite costly to install

DISADVANTAGES!!!!!!!!!

Costly to install!!

Freezing of solar panels causes solar panels unusable

Hiding of sun causes a break to production Of energy!!

SOLAR CITIES!!!!WHAT IS A SOLAR CITY???

Need for Solar Cities Several Indian cities and towns are experiencing rapid growth in the

peak electricity demand. The local governments and the electricity utilities are finding it difficult to cope with this rapid rise in demand and as a result most of the cities/towns are facing electricity shortages.

What is a Solar City?  The Solar City aims at minimum 10% reduction in projected demand of

conventional energy at the end of five years, through a combination of enhancing supply from renewable energy sources in the city and energy efficiency measures. The basic aim is to motivate the local Governments for adopting renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency measures

How do you identify a city for developing as Solar City?  The city is identified based on city population, potential and

commitment for adoption of renewable energy and energy conservation in the city activities, initiatives already taken by City Council/ Administration/ Private Developers/Industry/General Public in promoting renewable energy and energy conservation, regulatory measures taken on deployment of renewable energy technologies and their willingness to provide resources and sustenance of activities initiated under the program

SOLAR CITY {CONTD.} Cities Sanctioned Sanctions have been given to 31 cities which have

received in-principle approvals and they have engaged Consultants for preparation of master plan. These cities are:

Agra, Moradabad, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Nagpur, Kalyan-Dombivali, Kohima, Dehradun, Chandigarh, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Thane, Panaji City & Environs, Bilaspur, Raipur, Imphal, Itanagar, Jodhpur, Jorhat, Guwahati, Agartala, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Shimla, Hamirpur, Haridawar & Rishikesh, Vijaywada, Aizawl, Mysore, Hubli and Gwalior.

Funds towards 50% cost of preparation of Master Plans have also been released to each city. Draft Master plans have been prepared for 11 cities. The setting up of solar city cell in these cities is in progress.

WHAT IS THE MASTER PLAN OF SOLAR CITY??

The master plan of the city will include the base line for energy consumption during the year 2008, demand forecasting for the years 2013 and 2018, sector-wise strategies and action plan for implementation of renewable energy projects so as to mitigate the fossil fuel consumption in the city. This will contain details of identified project sites so that, the project proposals could be developed(see guidelines for details).

MASTER PLAN

IMPLEMENTATION OF MASTER PLAN

To create a “solar city cell”

To constitute a “solar city stake holders committee”

To promote National Rating system for

construction of energy efficient green buildings

in particular to commercial and

institutional buildings.

To amend building bye-laws for making the use of solar water heating systems mandatory in

certain category of buildings.

To comply with MSW Rules 2000 notified by

the Ministry of environment.

•Actions to be taken by municipal corporations and city councils/district administrations for developing a solar city

• IMPLEMENTATION OF MASTER PLAN

•OUR DUTY!!

Hence it is our duty to preserve of natural resources so that we can make optimum utilisation of these resources

CONCLUSION

Using solar energy as the power source of the system proved to be feasible{possible and practical to do easily or conveniently}Solar Energy being a renewable source of energy proved to be efficient as compared to using electrical energy or steam at the same place.Nanotechnology films used in solar cells promise to increase. 1} Reduce manufacturing cost. 2} Capable of supplying low power devices. 3} Future energy source for mankind . 4} Helps developing countries to provide electricity 5}At last NANOTECHNOLOGY is boon to human society.
