The USF Board of Trustees is responsible for cost-effective policy decisions appropriate to the system mission and the implementation and maintenance of high quality education programs within the laws and rules of the state. Campus Boards for USF St. Petersburg and USF Sarasota-Manatee are appointed by the USF Board of Trustees. The USF Board of Trustees was created in 2001 by the Florida legislature.

The 13 trustees include distinguished figures in the law, commerce, medicine, education, philanthropy and public policy leadership. Six trustees are appointed by Florida’s governor and five trustees are appointed by the Board of Governors. The USF System Faculty Council President and Student Body President also serve as trustees. The USF System President serves as Corporate Secretary.

• Students from across the USF System take classes at USF St. Petersburg while our total enrollment of some 6,000 students still gives USFSP a small campus feel.

• USFP has a growing residential student population that is served in two residence halls on a campus situated in a lively downtown area near museums, restaurants and nightlife.

• The largest academic programs are biology, business, psychology and education.

USF St. Petersburg offers twelve graduate and twenty-three undergraduate programs in the arts and sciences, business and education. New in fall 2013 is a master’s degree in Psychology and a bachelor’s degree in World Languages and Cultures. USFSP features small classes taught by faculty who know students by name and who provide both graduate and undergraduate students with research opportunities. Among USFSP’s core beliefs are community involvement and civic engagement. The breadth and scope of volunteerism by our students and faculty have been recognized through the Carnegie Foundation elective Community Engagement classification. In 2006, USF St. Petersburg was separately accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. USFSP retains its separate identity and mission while contributing to and benefiting from the associations, cooperation and shared resources of a premier national research university.

The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee has achieved tremendous growth in academic achievement, research initiatives and enrollment over the past three decades-plus, providing undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs of merit to the region. In 2013, USFSM, the second regional institution in the USF System to be separately accredited, welcomed its first freshman class to a four-year institution that is large enough to lead, yet small enough to care. It offers the prestige of a nationally ranked research university with the convenience of a hometown campus that is responsive to community needs.

USFSM employs world-class faculty in its four colleges (College of Arts & Sciences, College of Business, College of Education and College of Hospitality and Technology Leadership), almost 90 percent of which hold terminal degrees in their fields. The institution serves over 1,877 part-time, full-time, online and in-person students annually, and has more than 18,000 alumni living and working in the region.
