Using ICT to facilitate new developments in teaching and
learning
Technology course
• Monday 3rd – Friday 7th December 2018
Day 1
• Induction and KAHOOT
• How do you engage your students while teaching them something meaningful?
Kahoot! is a tool for using technology to administer quizzes, discussions or surveys. It is a game based classroom response system played by the whole class in real time. Multiple-choice questions are projected on the screen. Students answer the questions with their smartphone, tablet or computer.
• Kahoot! fosters learning in a group setting. Students do not require an account and must only enter a code on any device with an internet connection (computer, tablet, phone) to participate.
• Images can be added to each question, enhancing the effectiveness of the quiz. Questions consist of multiple choice answers, at least 2 and up to 4.
• An added benefit of Kahoot! is the students’ answers are preserved in a spreadsheet that can be analysed later to determine concepts that need to be reemphasized (if certain students are struggling, etc.).
Why is it engaging?• Students LOVE competitions and
tablets/phones.
• The instrument/s for learning (phones/tablets) make even the most boring subject/topic more fun and entertaining.
• MOTIVATION is enhanced: Use it as a treat at the end of each class IF they have behaved.
Day 2
• QUIZIZZ
(vs KAHOOT)
• Quizizz is a self-paced learning tool that helps every student celebrate their achievements.
• Teachers incorporate Quizizz into instruction, review, and assessment to support students.
1-> This page contains the library of Public
quizzes. You can search for quizzes by the
name of the quiz or the username of the
creator of the quiz.
2->"My Quizzes" contains all of the quizzes
you've created. It also contains
"Collections" which are folders used to
organize quizzes.
3->"Create" takes you to the Quiz Editor so
you can create your own quizzes.
4-> "Reports" includes results for all of the
games you've hosted.
5-> Save and create custom memes for
your games.
2 main functions
• Once you've picked a quiz, you can conduct it in class with our live mode or assign it as a homework game for students to practice on their own time. Students can use any device with a browser to join the game and you see data for individual students and the class as a whole.
Data that matter
• Quizizz provides you with great data for all of the games you conduct. You can use the feedback from reports to change your lesson plan in real-time.
• Our reports give you a clear view of your overall class performance as well as a breakdown for each student.
Limitation
• Now Quizizz will be available in your local language. Presently, Quizizz is available in English, Spanish, French, Dutch, Polish and Russian. More languages soon.
• You can already find other quiz created by other Italian colleagues.
Can students do it ‘actively’?
• Yes!!
• Students are also allowed to create quizzes and conduct games

Great for evaluating performances
• Each students have a different question (UNLIKE Kahoot), so less chance they can cheat!
• You can send your students’ results to their parents.
• Create your own account/ search for quizizz you like and MAKE one that all of your colleagues can play.
Day 3
• QUIZLET
• Quizlet is a great resource for teacherslooking for new ways to engage their students and get them to study more often.
• It works with digital flash cards.
Try it yourselves now

Why QUIZLET is a great tool
• Quizlet can automatically generate interactive games and even tests of the material you enter into it. Five or ten minutes of typing (or pasting!) up front can yield literally hours’ worth of automatically-assessed activities inside and outside of the classroom, on computers, smartphones, tablets, and even pencil-and-paper printed exercises.
Great to teach and learn languages
But can be easily adapted and can be used in other subjects
• Quizlet can be used to generate paper handouts, flash cards, or game materials. Once you have your list of words and definitions uploaded to Quizlet, there are several printing options.
• You can use these printed materials as handouts for your students or else use them to create physical games and warm-up exercises to play in class. (For example, you might print out words in the “small flashcard” format, cut out all the words and definitions separately, scramble them up, and hand one slip of paper to each student, either a word or a definition. Then, students would need to find the other person in the room whose slip of paper completes the word/definition pair.)
• Some of the functions of Quizlet work great especially with young students (the interactive pen guarantees more dynamism and competition in the classroom… see the MATCH and the GRAVITY functions)
FREE, but some features are only supported by a subscription
It's $15 for one year of Quizlet Plus
