Flux Balance Analysis (FBA)

• Flux = “rate at which chemicals are transformed or transported”• Balanced = “input & output rates are equal” (a.k.a. steady-state)• Analysis = “optimize (balanced) flux with constraints”

• Example: maximize product synthesis per unit feedstock, while satisfying maintenance (biomass) requirements
