Using the Right Stuff
Using the Right Stuff How do we get the STUFF needed to do the job
We budget for what is necessary to get the work completed to keep everything flowing
Once we figure out what our expenses/costs are we need to figure out what we are going to sell for the year as far as water volumes go
Then we set that RATE to bring in the revenue to cover all the costs
That RATE is what is used to purchase and maintain our STUFF
Rate Simplifications (This is really the simple version)
All the costs divided by the volume of water sold = the rate ( cubic feet or gallons)
Using the Right Stuff Emergencies beyond the normal
Is the equipment prepared and capable for all emergencies?
Using the Right Stuff Emergency or disaster? How will this effect operations and the Fleet? Will you be out of business?
Using the Right Stuff Is the cost of delivering the service directly related to the type of equipment necessary to perform the work?
Using the Right Stuff • Are you purchasing the equipment that meets the specifications of
the job they have to do?
• Who is included in the preparation of the specifications?
• Does the equipment have the proper utility to multi-task?
• Was the equipment bid or purchased from National, State, County or a purchasing consortium?
• Is it easy to do preventative and daily maintenance?
• Is the operator happy with the purchase?
Using the Right Stuff Maintenance:
• Is the cost of maintenance more efficient in-house or privatized?
• Inventory of parts to keep the fleet on the road?
• Is it best to do routine maintenance at your facility and contract for
the specialized things? Engine rebuilds, springs
• Are your mechanics properly trained and receiving updates?
• Are your operators properly trained and receiving updates?
Using the Right Stuff What does your equipment look like to the public and
customers you serve
Does the condition of the equipment reflect on you and the product you provide
Using the Right Stuff Training
Are the equipment maintenance staff properly trained to repair and maintain specialty equipment
Using the Right Stuff Training
Are the operators properly trained to repair and maintain specialty equipment
Using the Right Stuff
“The services don’t go if the Fleet don’t Roll”
Using the Right Stuff Do you inventory sufficient, standard and proper inventory of parts? How are they purchased?
Using the Right Stuff Is the equipment cost effective and capable of Best Management Practices? Utility of Equipment.
