GENERAL NOTES

1. BOUNDARY AND TOPOGRAPHIC INFORMATION OBTAINED FROM A SURVEY BY KUO & ASSOCIATES,

DATED 03-31-2016.

2. THE PLANS AND SURVEYS UPON WHICH THEY ARE BASED ARE TIED INTO THE OFFICIAL CITY OF

HOUSTON SURVEY SYSTEM IN COMPLIANCE WITH ORDINANCE NO. 69-1978.

3. CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS OWN HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL CONTROL, REFERENCE

9. CONTRACTOR TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING AND MAINTAINING ALL BARRICADES, WARNING

SIGNS, FLASHING LIGHTS AND TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES IN CONFORMANCE WITH PART VI OF THE “TEXAS

11. CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPLY WITH O.S.H.A. REGULATIONS AND STATE OF TEXAS LAW CONCERNING

EXCAVATION, TRENCHING AND SHORING. CONTRACTOR TO MAINTAIN TRENCH SAFETY SYSTEM IN

ACCORDANCE WITH OSHA STANDARDS, 29 CFR, PART 1926 SUBPART P INCLUDING FINAL RULE PUBLISHED IN

THE FEDERAL REGISTER VOL. 54, NO 209., AND TEXAS LEGISLATURE UNDER TEXAS HEALTH AND SAFETY

CODE ANN., 756.021. EXCAVATIONS OVER 4 FEET DEEP TO FOLLOW STATE OF TEXAS REQUIREMENTS WITH

REGARDS TO (BUT NOT LIMITED TO) ACCESS STIRS, LADDERS, RAMPS WITH NECESSARY BENCHING AND

SLOPING. EXCAVATIONS OVER 5 FEET DEEP TO BE SHEETED AND PROTECTED (IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE

“TRENCH SAFETY DETAILS” CONTAINED IN THE PLANS) AS REQUIRED BY STATE LAW AND O.S.H.A. ANY

DEVIATION FROM THE METHOD SHOWN IN THE PLANS MUST BE DESIGNED AND SEALED BY A REGISTERED

PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER LICENSED IN THE STATE OF TEXAS AND IN GOOD STANDING. SAID DESIGN MUST

BE FORWARDED TO THE ENGINEER AND IN HIS HANDS AT LEAST 48 HOURS BEFORE BEGINNING EXCAVATION

OPERATIONS. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS HEREIN WILL CONSTITUTE AGREEMENT BY

12. PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY MUST BE MAINTAINED ON AT LEAST ONE SIDE OF BERTNER STREET AND WEST

13. CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT ROOT SYSTEMS OF SHRUBS,

PLANTS, AND TREES ALONG THE AREA OF EXCAVATION. REFER TO SPECIFICATIONS AND LANDSCAPE

ARCHITECT DRAWINGS FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS ON TREE PROTECTION.

14. CONTRACTOR SHALL PREPARE A SET OF “AS-BUILT” DRAWINGS SHOWING ANY FIELD CHANGES MADE

TO THE APPROVED ENGINEERING PLANS AND SUBMIT TO THE ENGINEER.

15. CONSTRUCT WASTEWATER COLLECTION SYSTEMS, WATER LINES, STORM DRAINAGE, AND STREET

PAVING IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LATEST EDITION OF THE PUBLICATIONS STANDARD CONSTRUCTION

SPECIFICATIONS FOR WASTEWATER COLLECTION SYSTEMS, WATER LINES, STORM DRAINAGE, AND STREET

PAVING PUBLISHED BY THE CITY OF HOUSTON, DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS AND ENGINEERING.

16. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGES TO EXISTING WATER, WASTEWATER, STORM

WATER LINES, AND TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES. DAMAGE SHALL BE REPAIRED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE

CITY OF HOUSTON, DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS AND ENGINEERING'S STANDARD CONSTRUCTION

SPECIFICATIONS FOR WASTEWATER COLLECTION SYSTEMS, WATER LINES, STORM DRAINAGE, AND STREET

PAVING AND STANDARD CONSTRUCTION DETAILS FOR WASTEWATER COLLECTION SYSTEMS, WATER LINES,

STORM DRAINAGE, AND STREET PAVING, REFERENCED ABOVE, AT NO ADDITIONAL COST.

17. ADEQUATE DRAINAGE SHALL BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES DURING CONSTRUCTION AND ANY

DRAINAGE DITCH OR STRUCTURE DISTURBED DURING CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE RESTORED TO EXISTING

CONDITIONS OR BETTER.

GENERAL GRADING NOTES

1. ALL GRADING SHALL CONFORM TO THESE CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS.

2. THE PROJECT GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER SHALL PROVIDE OBSERVATION AND TESTING

DURING GRADING OPERATIONS IN THE FIELD. SOIL TESTS SHALL BE CONDUCTED IN ACCORDANCE

WITH THE SPECIFICATIONS.

3. AREAS TO BE GRADED SHALL BE CLEARED OF ALL VEGETATION, INCLUDING ROOTS AND

ROOT STRUCTURES, AND OTHER UNSUITABLE MATERIAL FOR FILL, THEN SCARIFIED TO A DEPTH

OF 6 INCHES PRIOR TO PLACING ANY FILL. ALL UNSUITABLE MATERIAL SHALL BE REMOVED FROM

THE PROJECT SITE AND TRANSPORTED TO A SUITABLE DISPOSAL AREA PRIOR TO PLACING ANY

FILL MATERIAL. THE AREA SHALL BE INSPECTED BY THE PUBLIC WORKS INSPECTOR (ALLOW

48-HOUR MINIMUM ADVANCED NOTICE). DISPOSAL MUST BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH LOCAL, STATE

AND FEDERAL GUIDELINES AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER.

4. AREAS WITH EXISTING SLOPES WHICH ARE TO RECEIVE FILL MATERIAL SHALL BE KEYED AND

BENCHED. THE DESIGN AND INSTALLATION OF THE KEYWAY SHALL BE PER THE DETAILS PROVIDED

IN THESE PLANS, AS MODIFIED BY THE GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER.

5. FILL MATERIAL SHALL BE PLACED IN LIFTS PER THE SPECIFICATIONS. ANY DISCREPENCY

BETWEEN THE SPECIFICATIONS AND THE GEOTECHNICAL REPORT MUST BE BROUGHT TO THE

ENGINEER'S ATTENTION PRIOR TO START OF CONSTRUCTION.

6. ALL AREAS RECEIVING FILL SHALL BE STABILIZED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROJECT

SPECIFICATIONS.

7. ALL TREES TO REMAIN ON SITE SHALL BE PROTECTED FROM DAMAGE BY TEMPORARY

FENCING AROUND THE DRIP LINE DURING GRADING OPERATION.

8. PRIOR TO PLACEMENT OF COMPACTED FILL, LOOSE SOILS SHALL BE COMPLETELY REMOVED

DOWN TO COMPETENT MATERIAL AS APPROVED BY THE GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER.

OVER-EXCAVATION AND RECOMPACTION ACTIVITIES SHALL BE COORDINATED WITH THE

GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER.

9. STONES LARGER THAN 6 INCHES IN DIAMETER SHALL NOT BE PLACED IN THE FILL. STONES

LESS THAN 6 INCHES IN DIAMETER SHALL BE THOROUGHLY MIXED WITH THE SOIL IN SUCH A

MANNER THAT NO VOIDS ARE CREATED IN THE FILL. STONES LARGER THAN 3 INCHES IN

DIAMETER SHALL NOT BE PLACED IN THE UPPER THREE FEET OF FILL.

10. EARTH MOVING AND WORKING OPERATION SHALL BE CONTROLLED TO PREVENT WATER

FROM RUNNING INTO THE EXCAVATED AREAS. EXCESS WATER SHALL BE PROMPTLY REMOVED

AND THE SITE KEPT DRY. FILL MATERIAL SHALL NOT BE PLACED, SPREAD, OR ROLLED DURING

UNFAVORABLE WEATHER CONDITIONS. WHEN THE WORK IS INTERRUPTED BY HEAVY RAIN, FILL

OPERATIONS SHALL NOT RESUME UNTIL FIELD TEST BY THE SOIL ENGINEER INDICATES THAT THE

MOISTURE CONTENT AND DENSITY OF THE FILL ARE ABLE TO BE PLACED AND MEET THE

REQUIRED COMPACTION.

11. FILL MATERIAL SHALL NOT BE PLACED IF NOT WITHIN PROPER MOISTURE REQUIREMENTS

PER THE SPECIFICATIONS.

12. IMPORT OR ON-SITE SOILS USED IN FILL OPERATION SHALL BE FREE FROM ORGANIC

MATERIAL OR OTHER DELETERIOUS MATERIALS.

13. FINAL GRADES AS SHOWN ON THE PLANS ARE FINAL ELEVATIONS REGARDLESS OF SURFACE

MATERIALS (SOD, MULCH, PAVEMENT, SIDEWALK, LANDSCAPING, SOFTSCAPE, HARDSCAPE, ETC.).

ENSURE ROUGH AND FINE GRADING OPERATIONS TO ACCONT FOR SURFACE MATERIAL

THICKNESS.

PAVING CONSTRUCTION NOTES

1. ALL ROAD WIDTHS, RADII AND ALIGNMENT SHOWN INDICATE FACE OF CURB OR EDGE OF

PAVEMENT WHICHEVER IS APPLICABLE.

2. CONCRETE PAVEMENTS SUPPORTING VEHICULAR TRAFFIC SHALL BE PORTLAND CEMENT

CONCRETE AND HAVE A COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF 3,500 PSI MINIMUM AT 7 DAYS AND 4,000

PSI MINIMUM AT 28 DAYS. REBARS SHALL BE ASTM A615 STEEL

3. EXISTING PAVING, IN PUBLIC STREET RIGHTS-OF-WAY OR EASEMENTS, DAMAGED BY

CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE REPAIRED AS PER CITY OF HOUSTON DWG. NO. 02902-01, AS

APPLICABLE. ALL OTHER EXISTING PAVING, NOT SHOWN TO BE REMOVED, DAMAGED BY

CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE REPAIRED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE DETAILS CONTAINED IN THE

PLANS.

4. EXISTING CURBS, SIDEWALKS, AND DRIVEWAYS IN PUBLIC STREET RIGHTS-OF-WAY OR

EASEMENTS DAMAGED OR REMOVED DURING CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE REPLACED TO CITY OF

HOUSTON STANDARDS. ALL OTHER CURBS, SIDEWALKS AND DRIVEWAYS, NOT SHOWN TO BE

REMOVED, DAMAGED BY CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE REPLACED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE

DETAILS CONTAINED IN THE PLANS.

STORM SEWER CONSTRUCTION NOTES

1. STORM SEWER CONSTRUCTION, INCLUDING PIPE, INLETS AND MANHOLES, OUTSIDE OF

PUBLIC STREET RIGHTS-OF-WAY OR EASEMENTS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE DETAILS

CONTAINED IN THE PLANS.

2. UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED ON THESE PLANS, ACCEPTABLE PIPE MATERIALS FOR STORM

SEWERS ARE RCP AS FOLLOWS:

a. REINFORCED CONCRETE PIPE (RCP) SHALL CONFORM TO ASTM C-76, CLASS III,

3. CIRCULAR AND ELLIPTICAL REINFORCED CONCRETE PIPE SHALL BE INSTALLED USING

RUBBER GASKET JOINTS CONFORMING TO ASTM C443 AND ASTM C877 RESPECTIVELY.

4. MAINTAIN A 12” MINIMUM CLEARANCE BETWEEN OUTER EDGES OF STORM SEWER AND ANY

OTHER UTILITY CROSSINGS.

5. BEDDING AND BACKFILLING FOR STORM SEWERS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CITY

OF HOUSTON DRAWING NOS. 02317-02, 02317-03, 02317-05, 02317-06, AND 02317-07 (2008) AS

APPLICABLE UNLESS OTHERWISE SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS. ALL SEWER UNDER PROPOSED OR

FUTURE PAVEMENT AND TO A POINT ONE (1) FOOT BACK OF ALL PROPOSED OR FUTURE CURBS

SHALL BE BACKFILLED WITH 1-1/2 SACK CEMENT/C.Y. STABILIZED SAND TO WITHIN ONE (1) FOOT

OF SUBGRADE. THE REMAINING DEPTH OF TRENCH SHALL BE BACKFILLED WITH SUITABLE EARTH

MATERIAL.

6. ALL TRENCH BACKFILL SHALL BE IN 8” LIFTS, WITH TESTS TAKEN AT 100 FOOT INTERVALS ON

EACH LIFT, AND MECHANICALLY COMPACTED TO A DENSITY OF NOT LESS THAN 95% OF THE

MAXIMUM DRY DENSITY AS DETERMINED BY THE STANDARD PROCTOR COMPACTION TEST (ASTM

D-698/AASHTO T99). WHENEVER TRENCHES ARE EXCAVATED BELOW THE SPECIFIED DEPTH FOR

CLASS “B” BEDDING, THE PIPE SHALL BE LAID WITH CLASS “A” BEDDING.

7. ADJUST MANHOLE COVERS TO GRADE CONFORMING TO REQUIREMENTS OF CITY OF

HOUSTON STANDARD SPECIFICATION SECTION 02086-ADJUSTING MANHOLES, INLETS AND VALVE

BOXES TO GRADE.

8. WHERE MANHOLES, GRATE INLETS, OR JUNCTION BOXES ARE LOCATED WITHIN PAVED

AREAS, CONTRACTOR SHALL SET RIM ELEVATIONS TO MATCH TOP OF PAVEMENT ELEVATIONS.

FOR OUTSIDE OF PAVED AREAS, SET MANHOLE RIMS AND TOP OF GRATE AT ELEVATIONS SHOWN

ON THE PLANS. FOR SOLID MANHOLE RIMS ONLY, IF SPECIFIC ELEVATIONS ARE NOT SHOWN ON

THE PLANS, SET THE RIM ELEVATION 2” ABOVE THE FINISHED GRADE OF ADJACENT GRADES.

11. CONTRACTOR SHALL FIELD VERIFY THE ELEVATIONS OF ALL EXISTING GRAVITY SEWER LINES

SHOWN ON DRAWINGS PRIOR TO START OF CONSTRUCTION.

12. PRIOR TO ORDERING ANY MATERIALS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF STORM SEWER PROPOSED

UNDER THE PROJECT, CONTRACTOR SHALL REVIEW THE DRAWINGS FOR ANY DISCREPANCIES

BETWEEN SURVEY INFORMATION OF EXISTING SEWER LINES AND WHAT IS FOUND IN THE FIELD.

SUCH DISCREPANCIES SHALL BE BROUGHT TO ENGINEERS ATTENTION FOR POSSIBLE

ADJUSTMENT.

13. CONTRACTOR SHALL UNCOVER EXISTING UTILITIES AT ALL “POINTS OF CROSSING” TO

DETERMINE IF CONFLICT EXISTS BEFORE COMMENCING ANY CONSTRUCTION. NOTIFY THE

ENGINEER AT ONCE OF ANY CONFLICT FOR POSSIBLE ADJUSTMENT.

14. CONTRACTOR SHALL CONSTRUCT ALL GRAVITY SEWER LINES STARTING AT THE OUTFALL

POINT OR AT THE ULTIMATE POINT OF CONNECTION TO THE SERVICING LINE AND THEN CONTINUE

CONSTRUCTUING UPSTREAM

15. LENGTHS OF STORM SEWER PIPE IN PROFILE IS BASED ON STRAIGHT CENTER LINE SEWER

LINE LENGTHS BETWEEN MANHOLE'S VERTICAL CENTER LINES. FLOW-LINE ELEVATIONS ARE

BASED ON CENTER LINE LENGTHS BETWEEN MANHOLES' VERTICAL CENTER LINES.

16. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROTECTING AND MAINTAINING THE

EXISTING DRAINAGE CONDITIONS. ANY DAMAGED OR ALTERED DRAINAGE CONDITIONS OUTSIDE

PROJECT SCOPE SHALL RESTORED.

17. ALL DITCHES SHALL BE REGRADED TO PROPOSED ELEVATIONS TO INSURE PROPER

DRAINAGE. ALL DISTURBED AREA SHALL BE STABILIZED PER THE SPECIFICATIONS.

18. CONTRACTOR TO NOTIFY ENGINEER IF PROPOSED DRIVEWAYS CONFLICT WITH AN EXISTING

INLET PRIOR TO START OF CONSTRUCTION.

EROSION CONTROL PLAN CONSTRUCTION NOTES

1. CONTRACTOR TO FURNISH SWPPP PER TCEQ REQUIREMENTS. THE EROSION CONTROL

PLAN AS CONTAINED IN THE DRAWING SET CAN BE USED IN THE STORM WATER POLLUTION

PREVENTION PLAN

2. CONTRACTOR SHALL IMPLEMENT INLET PROTECTION DEVISES, REINFORCED FILTER FABRIC

BARRIER, STABILIZED CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCES AND OTHER STORM WATER POLLUTION

PREVENTION MEASURES AT LOCATIONS SHOWN ON THE PLAN(S) TO KEEP SILT AND/OR

EXCAVATED MATERIALS FROM ENTERING THE STORM WATER INLETS AND DITCHES, EVENTUALLY

POLLUTING THE RECEIVING STORM SYSTEM. NO HAY BALES WILL BE ALLOWED.

3. DURING THE EXCAVATION/FILL PHASE OF THE PROJECT, CONTRACTOR SHALL SCHEDULE

THE WORK IN APPROPRIATE SEGMENTS SO THAT EXCESS MATERIAL CAN BE QUICKLY HAULED

AWAY PREVENTING IT FROM STAYING UNCOLLECTED ON THE EXISTING PAVEMENT. ANY LOOSE

EXCAVATED MATERIAL WHICH FALLS ON PAVEMENT OR DRIVEWAYS SHALL BE REMOVED

APPROPRIATELY.

4. CONTRACTOR SHALL CLEAN UP THE EXISTING STREET INTERSECTIONS AND DRIVEWAYS

DAILY AND ADDITIONALLY AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE EXCESS MUD, SOIL, SILT OR ROCK

TRACTED FROM THE EXCAVATED AREA.

5. CONTRACTOR SHALL FOLLOW GOOD HOUSEKEEPING PRACTICES DURING THE

CONSTRUCTION OF THE PROJECT, ALWAYS CLEANING UP DIRT AND LOOSE MATERIAL AS

CONSTRUCTION PROGRESSES.

6. CONTRACTOR TO INSPECT AND MAINTAIN THE AREAS LISTED BELOW AT LEAST ONCE EVERY

FOURTEEN (14) CALENDAR DAYS AND WITHIN 24 HOURS OF THE END OF A STORM EVENT OF 0.5

INCHES OR GREATER.

A. DISTURBED AREAS OF THE CONSTRUCTION SITE THAT HAVE NOT BEEN FINALLY STABILIZED.

B. AREAS USED FOR STORAGE OF MATERIALS THAT ARE EXPOSED TO PRECIPITATION

C. STRUCTURAL CONTROL MEASURES.

D. LOCATIONS WHERE VEHICLES ENTER OR EXIT THE SITE.

7. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING EXISTING DITCHES AND/OR

CULVERTS FOR UNOBSTRUCTED DRAINAGE AT ALL TIMES. WHERE SODDING IS DISTURBED BY

EXCAVATION ON BACKFILLING OPERATIONS, SUCH AREAS SHALL BE REPLACED BY SEEDING OR

SODDING. SLOPES STEEPER THAN 4:1 SHALL BE REPLACED BY BLOCK SODDING. SLOPES

STEEPER THAN 3:1 SHALL BE STABILIZED WITH PLANT MATERIALS NOT REQUIRING MOWING FOR

MAINTENANCE AND/OR GEOTEXTILE FABRICS AS REQUIRED IN THE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS.
