    INTRODUCTION

    . Utility fog-Envisioned by Dr.John Storrs Hall in2001

. In the words of hall : A biological human can walk

through fog walls and the fog human can walktrough dumb-matter walls, Of-course fog people canwalk through fog walls too

. Based on concept of Molecular Nanotechnology

. Concept of interlinking of small robots together.

. Foglet can simulate any environment by creating allsort of structures

    MODES OF OPERATION

    Native Mode

Mobility Concept - Foglets move in different directionsand perform mechanic al operations

Example:Table-solid and locked,Fan- solid componentwith moving joints

    Fog Mode

Static Concept- Static foglets Pixelate to transmitinformation and soundExample:Display screen on immovable objects with 100micron resolution with a processing power of 286 PC

    STRUCTURE: FOG

Foglet uses six arms tohold its neighbors in the

    layer; layers are thus a

    2-dimensionally rigidfabric of equilateraltriangles.

    Space filled with foglet is

    called Utility Fog

    PROPERTIES Self-reproducing and Self-generating

Power : Hydrogen (stored) combined with atmospheric oxygen to produceenergy and collects water vapour for its separation. 700kw power consumed/ccfor movement.

Absolute movement speed : 1m/sec. Tensile Strength : 1000 psi

Can sustain 100 m/s sheer per mm of thickness

    Specific gravity : 0.2

Can contract upto 40% in any linear direction reducing overall volume by factorof 5.

    Components Proposed: Carbon,Aluminum oxide

    Microcontroller based system

    Cost Issues: Less than $0.00000000001

Foglet though heavier than air, it is programmed to simulate its physicalproperty so that you cant feel it .

Individual foglets can communicate with each other.

    APPLICATIONS

Can act as shelter, clothing telephone computer and automobile

    Can form your Home TV

Fill the cabin of the spaceship with Utility fog never worry about floatingout of reach of a handhold

Inside spacesuit manages air pressure and make motion easy

An appropriately house filled with fog will prevent its hosts from micro-diseases.

Fog can look after children playing in the house for safety

It can make car-seatbelts for safety.

It can change the appearance of the car

    CHALLENGES & LIMITATIONS

Foglets are much bigger machines than most nano-tech conceptions.

Fog cannot simulate anything requiring hard metal

    Lack of self-intelligence

Can be seen only using Holographic lens

    Cannot form food or water

Cannot produce high temperature Cannot handle anything requiring chemical

    reactions

    CONCLUSION

Utility fog will provide human with powers thatapproximate those of a fictional machine.

It provides nano-technology replacement for allphysical equipments we see around

This technology is going to have very soundeffect on future and the researches are going on

this technnology to make it more compatibleand sophisticated.
