Did you know ?
This month we would like to Educate and share some of our valuable information with our Customers about the Utilization and Advantages of Compact RO Sytems in Homes.
What is Reverse Osmosis? It is the phenomenon of water flow through a semi permeable membrane that blocks the transport of salts or other solutes through it. Osmosis is a fundamental effect in all biological systems. It is applied to water purification and desalination, waste material treatment, and many other chemical and biochemical laboratory and industrial processes. When two water (or other solvent) volumes are separated by a semi permeable membrane, water will flow from the side of low solute concentration, to the side of high solute concentration. The flow may be stopped, or even reversed by applying external pressure on the side of higher concentration. In such a case the phe-nomenon is called reverse osmosis.
If there are solute molecules only in one side of the system, then the pressure that stops the flow is called the osmotic pressure. It is a process which removes both dissolved organics and salts. Feed water is pressur-ized and flows across a membrane, with a portion of the feed permeating the membrane. The balance of the feed sweeps parallel to the surface of the membrane to exit the system without being filtered. The filtered stream is the permeate, because it has permeated the membrane. The second stream is the concentrate because it carries off the concentrated contaminants, rejected by the membrane.Because the feed and concentrate flow parallel to the membrane and not perpendicular to it, the process is called “cross flow filtration”.
Depending on the size of the pores engineered into the membrane, cross flow filters are effective in the classes of separation known as Reverse Osmosis, nano filtration, ultra filtration and micro filtration. Cross flow membrane filtration allows continuous removal of contaminants which in normal flow filtration would blind (plug) the membrane pores rapidly, in conventional systems.
RO removes most organic compounds and up to 99% of all ions. A selection of RO membranes can be used to treat different feed water scenarios. It can meet almost all water standards with a single pass system and all water standards with a double pass system. The process achieves rejections of 99.9% of viruses, bacteria and pyrogens. Pressure in the range of 3.4 – 70 Bar is the driving force of the RO purification process. It is much cheaper than most conventional treatment systems today,
How does Reverse Osmosis work?Osmosis is the phenomenon of water flow through a semi-permeable membrane that blocks the transport of salts or other solutes through it. Osmosis is a fundamental effect in all-biological systems. Osmosis is applied to water purification and other chemical laboratory and industrial processes. When two water volumes are separated by a semi-permeable membrane, water will flow from the side of low solute concen-tration to the side of high solute concentration.
The flow may be stopped or even reversed by applying external pressure on the side of higher concentra-tion. This is called reverse osmosis. (R.O.) Reverse osmosis is only one stage of a typical R.O. system. Sedi-ment and carbon filtration is normally included with an R.O. system, with each stage of filtration contributing

to the purification process.
In first stage of filtration is the sediment filter which reduces suspended particles such as dir t, dust and rust. In second stage of filtration is the carbon filter which reduce volatile organic chemicals, chlorine & other taste & odor causing compounds.
The heart of Reverse Osmosis is the membrane. It is responsible for reject-ing up to 98% of the total dissolved solids in the water. This is where the purification takes place.
What is Meant by total dissolved solids? In the natural cycle of water, water that began its life as rain and eventually found its way to your tap has come in contact with many sources of potential contaminant. The various minerals and salts that have been dissolved by the water during this cycle are called Total Dissolved Solids (TDS).
What type of Mineral Contaminants is Removed By R.O.?Reduction of mineral components that make up total dissolved solids will vary up to a maximum of 99.8% depending on water chemistry and pressure. Reduction of mineral components that make up total dissolved solids will vary up to a maximum of 99.8% depending on water chemistry and pressure.
What is the Maintenance schedule for the Bionic RO Systems ? The three pre-filter cartridges should be changed every 6 months. The first is a 5 micron sediment cartridge. The second is a Carbon Cartridge. The third is a one micron sediment filters. (Some system comes with the Extruded carbon filter.) Failure to change the cartridge every 6 months may allow chlorine to destroy the membrane. It is very easy to change the prefilters. Just order the needed filters from us and all system come with the housing wrench to open the filter housings so you can maintain your system yourself and feel confident about your drinking water.
When should the Membrane be Changed ? One indication is a gradual reduction in water production caused by a layering of minerals and salts on the membrane surface. Another is a gradual deterioration in the quality of water being produced. You my notice a different taste or more white scum on the inside of a pan of water you are boiling. This might mean the R.O. membrane is disintegrating and requires replacement. Let us now know about the technical details about the RO Systems we are using in UT’s Prestigious Projects.
