X is the name given to a southern precursor supercontinent. Its final geological

suturing occurred between ca. 570 and 510 million years ago , joining East X to

breakup of the Pangaea supercontinent that existed about 500 to 200 Ma into two

large segments, nearly equal in area.

The name of the ancient continent ofX land was derived from X, because some of

the earliest rock formations of this continent were first investigated in part of the

region, in modern Orissa is part of the northern Deccan plateau, with an average

height of about 600700 meters. Much of it is rugged and hilly. Geologically it is

mostly Pre-Cambrian rock, with some areas dated to Permian and Triassic periods.

Part of it is overlaid with alluvium, and in the west it is overlaid with the igneous

    rocks of the Deccan Traps.

Born in Waltair (now Vishakhapatnam), X came from a distinguished background: she was the

great-grandniece of the Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore.

In 1936, X eloped with her lover actor Najam-ul-Hussain. And the studio head Himanshu Raicalled upon his laboratory assistant Ashok Kumar to take the leading man's part and thusbegan a six-decade-long acting career for that action. Ashok Kumar later starred with theactress in Achhut Kanya (1936). This, her most notable film, is the story of a relationshipbetween an untouchable girl (played by herself) and a Brahmin boy (played by Ashok Kumar).

She is also known by her sobriquet first lady of Indian cinema.

In 1958, the President of India honored X with a Padma Shri. In lateryears, she settled inBangalore with her second husband Svetoslav Roerich and built the Tataguni estate onKanakpura Road. The estate is famous for the dispute that ensued over it after her death asthe Indian and Russian governments and relatives went to court over its control.

X was part of the formidable quartet that ruled Hindi Cinema in the 1950s and

early 60s, the others being Sahir Ludhiyanvi, Shakeel Badayuni and Shailendra

but X outlasted them all working right up to his death, his career spanning over

five decades and over 350 films.

It was X's versatility that industry folk swear by. If he could write 'Jalte Hain

Jiske Liye..' (Sujata) and ' Hum Bekhudi Me Tumko Pukare Chale Gaye..' (Kala

Pani), he also penned 'Paanch Rupaiya Bara Aana..' (Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi) and

'C A T cat..' (Dilli Ka Thug).X enthralled listeners with his songs in Abhimaan,

Z says,X was introduced to me by lyricist P.L.Santoshi at the time ofChham Chhama Chaam my second movie. At that time, she was not only

influenced by Geeta, but she was also under heavy (inferiority) complex ofY. As if she was torn between their styles. What I did was to give herconfidence and to help her come out of that complex. This process startedfrom the time of Naya Daur.

To Xs credit, it must be said that she never shied away from practice. Infact, she would be the one who would ask me for more rehearsals even if I

felt she was singing the song well. I can proudly claim that more than S.D.Burman, more than R.D.Burman, more than anybody else, it is Z who hasreally moulded her voice. Unfortunately today she refuses to acknowledgethat fact!

Reportedly the song S (a duet by Y and X) was partlyimprovised by Y at the time ofrecording and X, determined toshow Y how he would sing the duet better (since Y had notbeen trained classically), got into the mood of the song and

immortalized S. Legend also has it that X was upset by the factthat in the picturisation of the song, the singing competitionbetween the two heroes was won by the one, for whom thebackground singing was done by Y.X didn't like the fact that aclassically trained singer like himself would have to lose,

though only on-screen, to an un-trained singer (Y).

Karnataka had adopted the Three language formula for education inschools since the linguistic reorganization of states in 1956.It was felt thatKannada faced threat from Sanskrit, which was the dominant language inschools, leading to a situation where students could complete their highschool education without having to study Kannada. This created a wideincompatibility between languages used for state administration andeducation.

This led to a linguistic movement against retaining Sanskrit as the firstlanguage in School education. The movement was initiated and supportedby political parties, groups of Kannada teachers, students, college anduniversity professors, literary critics, playwrights, and creative writers. This

made the government rethink about the language policy for schooleducation and constituted a committee on July 5, 1980 with X as theChairman.

4.X was a Siamese kingdom that existed from 1351 to 1767. Itwas friendly towards foreign traders, permitting them to setup villages outside the city walls. In the sixteenth century, itwas described by foreign traders as one of the biggest andwealthiest cities in the East. The court of King Narai (16561688) had strong links with that of King Louis XIV of France, whose ambassadors compared the city in size and wealth toParis.

According to foreign accounts, X was officially known as Siam, but many sources also say that the people ofX called

themselves Tai, and their kingdom KrungTaior 'the Kingdomof the Tais, giving the modern Thailand.

Xs name is supposed to be derived from the fact that X issupposed to be the seaport of the city and kingdom Y in India.

In July, Yes Men joined Bhopal activists in holding Dow

Chemicals accountable for the chemical disaster. Twenty

activists showed up at the Dow headquarters near London

with Beau-Pal bottles that were filled with toxic water

collected from the contaminated site in Bhopal. Twenty five

years after the accident, the Sambhavna Trust issued a report

stating that toxic quantities of nickel, chromium, mercury, leadand other toxins were still present in local groundwater,

vegetables, and breast milk! The prank (or maybe it was the

contaminated water!) inspired so much fear in the heart of

Andrew Liveris, Dows CEO, that he ordered the entire building

vacated in anticipation of the delivery.

Tilottama was an apsara, the most ravishing of celestial nymphs, and she was sent down to earth to perform a task even the godsfound impossible-- the distruction of the invincible twin sovereignsSunda and Upasunda.

Imagine, _____: they had, in the modern phase, everything going

for them, and yet they killed each other for exclusive possession ofa calculatingly desirable woman.

There are many lessons one can derive from this story, including thebasic one that twins should beware of women called Tilottama, butthe moral that the Pandavas took to heart from myrecitation of the

tale was more constructive: that when many men desire onewoman thye must take all possible precautions against the slightest

    risk of similar self-destruction.
