Question:What is the purpose of a resume?

A Resume:

Is a fact-based, official documentShare what you already have accomplished, not what you

intend to accomplish

Should highlight qualifications related to the job

Should use chronological order

Gets AT MOST a 20 second review by a recruiter

Font styles - Times New Roman, Calibri

Font sizes between 10-12 (Name can be 16)

Margins should be 0.8 - 1.0”

CAPS, bolding, underlining, italics, bullets

Print on white/crème cotton-bond resume paper

One page; significant exp. – two page max

Resume Basics:

Do include keywords found in job openings

Do use short phrases beginning with action words

Do make sure grammar/spelling are correct

Do stop by the Career Center M-F 1:00 - 4:00pm for a 15 minute resume review

DO:

Do not use the words me, my or I

Do not use periods

Do not use acronyms

Do not use graphics, photos or personal information
