Safety instructions — Please read carefully

o DANGER — To reduce risk of electrical shock this system must begrounded. Connect your UV system to a grounded, GEl protected (3pronged) receptacle (120V, 60HZ) and ensure that the lamp connectorground wire is connected to the ground stud on the top of the disinfectionchamber.Note: Power source ~r applications outside of North America mustmatch requirements of the unit (eg. 240V, 50Hz).Do not plug the unit in if any of the external surfaces or electrical partsare wet. Condensation on the disinfection chamber is normal.

@To avoid possible electric shock, special care should be taken sincewater may be present near electrical equipment. Unless referred to inthese instructions, do not attempt repairs yourself. Contact the installingdealer or manufacturer for service advice.

ODo not operate this system if it has a damaged electrical cord or plug,is malfunctioning, or has been dropped or damaged in any way.

o Do not use this unit for anything other than its intended potable waterapplication. The use of attachments not recommended, approved, orsold by the manufacturer/distributor may result in an unsafe condition.

o Before any cleaning or maintenance, always disconnect the unit fromthe AC supply voltage and de-pressurize the system.

OProtect your unit from freezing. Drain all water from the unit if freezingtemperatures exist.

OSystem must be installed in accordance with all applicable codes andregulations.

olf system indicates a failure state, water needs to be boiled before useand the system and plumbing are required to be disinfected after systemfailure is resolved.

Omis installation and operating manual is to be kept with UVsystem.

APPLICATION OVERVIEW

UVDynamics UV disinfection systems certified to NSF/ANSI standard 55are suitable for use on waters which are known to be contaminated.This product uses a proprietary extended cold spot lamp design alongwith an active temperature controlled cold spot cooling fan, resulting inimproved lamp output maintenance during stagnant hot water conditions.The UV display indicates actual dose in mj/cm at rated flow.To insure trouble free operation of your UVDynamics UV disinfectionsystem it is important to ensure that your water source meets theminimum water quality parameters specified.Failure to meet minimum water quality standards may result inexcessive maintenance requirements or, in the case of UVT%below 70%, may preclude the system from reaching the minimumoperating UV fluence (dose).

WATER QUALITY

Your UV disinfection system requires clean water for optimumperformance. You should only operate your unit if the source watermeets the following standards:

If your source water does not meet these water quality parameters,additional pre-treatment will be required. Operation of this system withwater that does not meet these quality standards will increase theoccurrence of nuisance alarms, and result in increased maintenance andmore frequent lamp replacement. Operating the system with excessivelylow UVT% (ultraviolet transmission percentage) will reduce UV intensityto the point where operation of the system is not possible.

INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS

o Select a disinfection system mounting location where a potential leakwill not cause water damage. UVDynamics is not responsible for waterdamage. When the disinfection system can only be located where waterdamage is a possibility, the installation of an automatic leak detector /shut off device is highly recommended

OUVDynamics disinfection devices are designed to be installed on thecold water line only.

OCold water source must be connected to the inlet port only.CAUTION: reversing the flow direction by connecting the water source

to the output port could result in reduced disinfection performance andimproper operation of the flow regulator.

o Install your UV Dynamics disinfection system indoors in a protectedarea where the temperature does not fall below 9°C (40°F) and thehumidity level is low (to prevent condensation on the chamber). This unitfunctions ideally in a temperature range from 9°C - 29°C. (49 — 85F)

O Models 8.4CC, 11.4CC and 14.4CC must be installed vertically. Model20.4CC may be mounted horizontally with inlet and outlet portsorientated upwards only. Installing with ports orientated downward willresult in air being trapped in the disinfection chamber, resulting inreduced disinfection performance and erratic UV sensor operation.

OUse teflon tape on all pipe connections. DO NOT USE ANYOThER SEALANT.

o If the AC power distribution system is subject to frequent outages orelectrical storm activity, the installation of an extemal surge protectiondevice is required. Preferably, the surge protection device will have anindicator showing that the surge protection components have not failedand the device should be checked frequently.

O If the water system in which the UV disinfection system is to beinstalled includes a pump, the UV disinfection system should not beconnected to the same AC supply circuit as the pump. Pumps can createsignificant voltage droop on start-up which may be sufficient to trigger anabnormal operating condition alarm in the UV power source. In thesecases connection of the UV disinfection system to an isolated AC supplywill minimize nuisance alarms.

O If the installation location is subject to frequent power outages,surges, brown out conditions or electrical storm activity, a surgeprotection device should be installed on the AC supply to preventdamage to the power source.

(I~)Do not connect UVDynamics disinfection systems directly to PEXtubing or other plastic piping. Plastic material will suffer structuraldegradation, and possible service failures, when subjected to long-termUV light exposure. PEX tubing and plastic piping can be connecteddirectly to the inlet port if it is located on the bottom of the chamber.All side ports will require the use of a metallic light dam (16740cmsection of metallic tubing. street elbow or stainless steel flex connectorsuitably bent to prevent direct UV radiation)

Installation ProcedureThe UV disinfection system should be the last step of your watertreatment system. Choose a location for installation with a closeelectrical outlet. Note the direction of water flow in the supply line. Referto the installation example diagrams and check that you have allnecessary fittings for installation. Note: Ensure that the chosenmounting location has adequate clearance to facilitate quartz sleeve andUV lamp replacement.

OShut off the main water supply valve.

OMount the unit to the wall using the mounting brackets provided.Mount ballast beside the chamber. Ensure that the chosen ballastlocation is not subject to any possible dripping of condensation fromeither plumbing or system components

Olristall new plumbing as per diagram. Note: ~Mien installing the 5micron pre-filter, make sure the flow arrows point in the same directionas the water flow. WARNING: if soldering, do not allow heat nearplastic threads or fittings.

OSOLEN0ID VALVE INSTALLATIONOn vertically mounted systems a solenoid valve can be directly mountedto the inlet port. In all other mounting configurations the solenoid valveshould be isolated by 12” (30cm) of piping on either port of horizontallymounted disinfection chambers, and the output port of vertically mountedchambers,Mounting of the solenoid valve directly to the ports of a horizontallymounted chamber or directly to the output port of a vertically mountedchamber will result in premature solenoid coil failure due to the elevatedtemperature conditions that exist during periods of no wafer flow.

OQUARTZ SLEEVE INSTALLATION - Model 8.40CVerify that the red 0” ring is installed in the inside groove of the glandnut, and place the black “0” ring on the open end of the quartz sleeveapproximately 1(25mm) from the end. Then push the quartz sleeve intothe gland nut until the sleeve touches the top of the retainer edge in thegland nut. Failure to insert the quartz sleeve fully into the gland nut willallow excessive sleeve movement during water flow, resulting in possiblewater leakage and sleeve breakage.

OQUARrZ SLEEVE INSTALLATION - All other ModelsInstall one of the black “0” rings on the end of the quartz sleeve andposition approximately 1(25mm) from the open quartz sleeve end.Carefully insert the other end of the quartz sleeve into the disinfectionchamber. Install the second black “0” ring on the remaining quartzsleeve end which is now emerging from the end of the chamber andadjust sleeve position so that equal amounts of quartz sleeve extendfrom both ends of the disinfection chamber. Install the gland nut with theblack light shield on the bottom or non lamp end of the disinfectionchamber. The other gland nut is used on the lamp end of thedisinfection chamber. Hand tighten both gland nuts.

OPlace the lamp spring, then the lamp into the quartz sleeve. Install theCold Spot Fan~ over the gland nut. Holding the top of the lamp, attachlamp to the lamp connector. Insure the lamp is orientated so that thelamp wires are not in the path of the UV Sensor Probe. FAILURE TOORIENTATE LAMP CORRECLY COULD RESULT IN REDUCED UVDOSE INDICATION Push the lamp connector down snugly into thegland nut and tighten the lamp connector set screw.WARNING: do not over tighten as plastic threads are easilydamaged.Connect the lamp connector cable labeled FAN to the Cold Spot Fan~assembly.

ORemove the nut from the ground stud at the top of the unit. Next.place the ground wire (green wire with yellow stripe) over the stud andre-install nut and tighten. FAILURE TO GROUND CHAMBER MAYRESULT IN AN ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD AND ERRATIC UVSENSOR BEHAVIOUR

O Install UV Sensor Probe. The probe must be hand tightenedcompletely to insure accurate calibration. Connect UV Sensor Probeplug into port labeled UV Sensor on the UV power source.Caution — Hand tighten only

®Open the valves on either side of the disinfection chamber. Check forleaks. Open supply valve slowly and bleed air from system.

Connect UV power source to AC line. UV power source audio alarm willsound three times before igniting the lamp.

Your UV Dynamics disinfection system is now ready for service. Beforeservice begins, all household plumbing lines should be chemicallydisinfected.

DISINFECTION PROCEDURE

THE FOLLOWING DISINFECTION PROCEDURE IS GENERALLYACCEPTED AS BEING SUITABLE FOR THE DISINFECTION OFPLUMBING SYSTEMS KNOWN TO BE CONTAMINATED.

IF YOU ARE UNCERTAIN ABOUT THE EFFICACY OF THISPROCEDURE, YOU AREADVISED TO CONTACT THE LOCALHEALTH AUTHORITY RESPONSIBLE FOR WATER SAFETY.

The UV disinfection process takes place only in the UV disinfectionchamber and the process provides no residual disinfection capability,therefore it is necessary to chemically disinfect the enLire plumbingsystem before using water treated by the UVsystem.OThe disinfection of the plumbing system is most readily accomplishedby removing the 5 micron sediment filter cartridge and adding 250ml -

500m1 (1 —2 cups) of standard 5.25% concentration un-scented chlorinebleach to the empty filter housing andre-installing.

OVerify that the UV disinfection unit is connected to the AC supplyvoltage and operating properly. The addition of chlorine bleach to theplumbing system may cause the water to go cloudy, resulting in a lowUV alarm condition. If a solenoid valve is installed it will be necessary toplace the solenoid valve in the manual open mode.

OOperate all faucets, fixtures and appliances until you clearly smellchlorine, then shut off. This includes shower heads, outside taps,dishwashers, laundry equipment and any appilance connected to theplumbing system.

OLeave the bleach solution for 30 minutes.

ORe-install the sediment filter cartridge and thoroughly flush the systemat all fixtures and appliances connected to the system.

Note: The introduction of a chlorine disinfection solution to a hot waterheater that has been used with untreated hard water or water withexcessive iron, manganese or other organic contaminants may lead tooxidization of these materials. If you feel that these conditions may applyto your installation, a thorough flushing of the hot water tank should beundertaken to eliminate the oxidized material from the system.

UV POWER SOURCE FEATURES

The micro-processor controlled UV power source supplied has bothaudio and visual alarm indicators to validate lamp operation and anintegral annual lamp change reminder timer.A two digit display is provided to display the actual UV dose, lamp liferemaining (when timer reset button is pressed), and various error codesto aid in system diagnostics. If the actual UV dose falls below 4Omj/cm2,the unit goes into the low UV alarm mode and the solenoid valve, ifinstalled, will be de-activated.

UV power source InItialization sequence: When AC power is appliedto the UV power source the lamp is ignited, as indicated by the greenlamp-on LED, after which a self test of the annual lamp change remindertimer LED and alarm buzzer occurs. This test consists of three buzzerbeeps and three red timer LED flashes. The two digit display indicatesthe actual UV dose. If a solenoid is connected to the UV power source, itwill activate when the UV level reaches 4Omj/cm2.

Normal Operation: During normal operation, the green lamp-on LED isilluminated and the two digit display indicates the actual UV dose inmi/cm2.

Diagnostic Display

Pushing the timer reset button on the UV power source initiates thediagnostic display function of the system. In sequence, the display willoutput the parameter followed by the parameter value;

Note: The diagnostic display does not function if a lamp failure conditionexists.

Lamp failure: When the UV power source detects a lamp failure orenters the auto shut down mode due to abnormal operating conditions,the alarm buzzer sounds, the red lamp failure LED and the green lamp-on LED and 2 digit display are extinguished. If connected, the solenoidvalve will terminate the water flow.Note: The UV power source is designed to shut down if the AC inputvoltage is outside of operating limits. When a lamp failure alarm is active,the unit should be unplugged from the AC power source for fifteenseconds and then reconnected to the AC power source. If the failure wasdue to out of limit AC power, the unit will re-ignite the lamp and operatenormally.

Chamber Over Heat: When the chamber temperature exceeds 45°C(113° F) the chamber overheat alarm (oh) will be displayed.

Lamp timer operation: The annual lamp change reminder timer will runfor approximately one full year. At the end of the one year period the E6lamp change reminder error code will be displayed and the buzzer willsound. The E6 error code indicates that the lamp timer function is in the28 day grace period. Pushing the timer button during this grace periodwill silence the buzzer for a seven day period but the E6 error code willremain. The buzzer reset can be activated a maximum of fbur timesduring the 28 day grace period. Under no circumstance does the graceperiod exceed 28 days. At the expiry of the 28 day grace period the E6error code is replaced by ES. When the ES error code is active the lampmust be replaced and the lamp timer reset.Note: As long as the UVievel reading on the two digit display is above4Omj/cm2 the solenoid valve drive is not disabled.

Time remaining: When the lamp change reminder timer is not in thegrace period or lamp change alarm mode, the number of weeks of lamplife remaining will be displayed on the two digit display by pressing thetimer reset button.

Solenoid Valve Output: The UV power source is capable of directlypowering a solenoid valve which will shutoff water flow during lampfailure alarm conditions.

Low UV Intensity: If the output of the UVdetection system falls below4Omj/cm2, a low UV alarm will be initiated and error code El will bedisplayed. If a solenoid valve is installed it will be deactivated to stop theflow of water.

Alarm Override: The UV power source has an alarm override feature todisable the audio alarm when the system has entered a low UV alarmstate. Pressing the button during error code El will initiate the override,which is active for 24hrs, but can be reset indefinitely. The alarmoverride feature will not function if the lamp has failed. The display willread error code E4 while the alarm override is active.

CAUTION: The water treated by the unit will not beproperly disinfected when the alarm override Is in

UV Sensor Error: If the UV Sensor Probe is not connected to the UVpower source, or if communication with sensor is not possible, the errorcode E3 will be displayed. Verify that the sensor plug is fully inserted intothe UV power source before replacing the UV Sensor Probe. The systemalso includes a sensor self test mode which is automatically executed ifan El low UV alarm is entered, or if the diagnostic display is activated, Ifthe sensor fails the self test, the E7 error code is displayed and thesensor will need to be replaced.

ERROR Codes Summary

The UV power source displays the following error codes to announcesystem problems. If more than 1 error code is applicable, all active errorcodes will be displayed in sequence.

El — Low UV AlarmE3 — Sensor Communication ErrorE4 — Alarm Override ActiveE5 — Change Lamp ReminderE6 — Lamp Life Expired — Change lampE7 — Sensor Self Test Failureoh — chamber over heat

Operating and Maintenance

Your UV system is on continuously dunng normal use.After periods of not using your water supply exceeding 2-3 days, it isrecommended to open all faucets and flush your plumbing lines for aminute or two.Caution: Protect your unit from freezing. Drain all water from the unit iffreezing temperatures exist.Ultraviolet lamp replacement: The ultraviolet lamp located inside thechamber will operate effactively, around the clock, for approximately oneyear. While the lamp will light longer than this, the UV light penetrationmay fall below the prescribed safety level. Therefore, annual lampreplacement is necessary regardless of apparent condition.

Replacing the UV lamp and cleaning the quartz sleeve

Note: Do not touch the lamp or the quartz sleeve with your fingers.Handle by ends only or wear soft gloves.

Unplug the system from the electrical outlet, him off all water suppliesto the unit, and de-pressunze system

OCarefully extract the lamp connector from the sleeve gland nutassembly to expose just the top of the lamp. While holding the lampbase firmly, remove the lamp connector. Caution: lamp base can bevery hot — be careful not to drop lamp into quartz sleeve as it is easilybroken.

OCarefully slide the UV lamp out of the quartz sleeve and discardaccording to local disposal regulations.

ORemove the quartz sleeve by loosening the gland nut(s) and carefullyextracting it from unit. Caution: The quartz sleeve is fragile and is easilychipped or broken — use care when removing or installing.

oClean the quartz sleeve with a vinegar solution or any readilyavailable scale removal product (Limeaway, CLR etc.)

ORe-install the quartz sleeve — replace “0” iing(s) if they appeardamaged.

Olnstall new lamp by reversing procedure described in step 2 above.

RESETTING THE LAMP CHANGE TI ER

OThe lamp change timer is reset by disconnecting the UV powersource from the AC supply, waiting for fifteen seconds and reconnectingto the AC supply while depressing the timer reset button. The UV powersource will emit a solid three second beep indicating that the reset wassuccessful.It is not possible to reset the lamp change t9mer unless the timer isin the grace period or lamp change alarm mode. H~ due topremature lamp failure, you need to reset the lamp change timerprior to the end of one Ml year there are special instructionsincluded with all replacement lamps describing the necessaryprocedure.

LOW UV ALARM

When the UV intensity level falls below 4OmjIcm2, the system enters theLow UV Alarm state and the El error code is displayed. If installed, thesolenoid valve will shut off water flow.

Whenever a Low UV Alarm is present the UV sensor self test function isexecuted. If the UV sensor fails the self test, the E7 error code will alsobe displayed indicating that the UV level sensor needs to be replaced.

The Low UV Alarm Flow Chart on page 9 simplifies resolving Low UVAlarm conditions.

This Class A system conforms to NSF/ANSI 55 for thedisinfection of microbiologically contaminated waterthat meets all other public health standards. Thesystem is not intended to convert wastewater or rawsewage to drinking water. The system is intended tobe installed on visually clear water.

NSF/ANSI 55 defines wastewater to include humanand / or animal body waste, toilet paper, and any othermaterial intended to be deposited in a receptacledesigned to receive urine and I or feces (blackwaste);and other waste materials deposited in plumbingfixtures (grey waste).

If this system is used for treatment of untreatedsurface waters or ground water under the directinfluence of surface water, a device found to be inconformance for cyst reduction under the appropriateNSF/ANSI standard shall be installed upstream of thesystem.

Warrantyuv Dynamics water disinfection systems are supported w,th a ‘free from

defects’ Workmanship and Material warranty as follows:

-A ten year pro-rated warranty on the stainless steel disinfection chamber-A three year warranty on the LIV power source-A one year warranty on uv lamps and sleeves-Atwo yearwarranty on the sensor-Warranty commences from date of purchase. Proof of purchase required

LIV Dynamics will repair or replace, at its option, any defective parts covered bythe warranty. Shipping and handling are not included in this warranty.

Parts repaired or replaced under the pro-rated warranty will be covered underwarranty to the end of the original warranty period. This warranty is also sut~ect tothe conditions and limitations outlined under the heading ‘General Conditions andLimitations” below.

Warranty for Replacement Lamps and Parts

uv Dynamics warrants replacement lamps, purchased for annual routinemaintenance, and other parts purchased to repair product components that are nolonger covered by the original warranty, to be free from defects in material andworkmanship for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase. During thistime, uv Dynamics will repair or replace, at its option, a defective replacement lampor part free of charge except for shipping and handling charges. The warrantyperiod on replacement lamps and parts will be verified using date codes andlorpurchase receipts. You will be advised as to whether the defective item needs tobe returned to LIV Dynamics for failure analysis.

General conditions and LimItations

None of the above warranties cover damage caused by improper use ormaintenance, accidents. acts of God, or minor scratches or imperfections that do notmaterially impair the operation of the product The warranties also do not coverproducts that are not installed as outlined in the applicable ~ners manual.

These limited warranties outline the exclusrve remedy for all claims based on afailure or defect in any of these products. They are in lieu of all other warrantieswhether written, oral, implied or statutory.

Under no circumstance shall uv Dynamics have any liability for liquidateddamages for collateral, consequential or special damages, or for loss of profits, orfor actual losses or for loss of production or progress of consb’uction, regardless ofthe nause of such damages or losses. In any event uv Dynamics aggregate totalliability shall not exceed the specific product purchase price. The purchaser agreesto indemnify and hold harmless uv Dynamics from all claims by third parties inexcess of these limitations.

uv Dynamics does not assume any liability for personal injury or propertydamage caused by the use or misuse of any of its products LIV Dynamics shall notin any event be liable for special, incidental, indirect or consequential damages uVDynamics liability shell, in all instances, be limited to replacement of the defectiveproduct or part and this liability will terminate upon expiration of the applicablewarranty period.
