But on the morning of December 26th, as the family relaxes around the pool after their Christmas festivities the night before, a terrifying roar rises up from the center of the earth. Dancing Wheels firmly believes that dance is an expression of the human spirit that should be expressed by people of all abilities. This dance company and touring performance group is the premier integrated dance company in the country, providing the opportunity to people with and without disabilities to express themselves through the art of dance. reaching out to over 4.5 million people, the company has received national acclaim and has been featured on CNN, Good Morning America, and the TV special “Christopher reeve: A Celebration of Hope.” Their message of inclusiveness and accessibility is evidenced in over 40 works of nationally revered repertoire from esteemed choreographers and continually strives to keep building on their strong and beautiful foundation. The performance will consist of a lecture explaining integrated dance and a performance featuring dances from the Dancing Wheels national tour.

Queer Cinema Presents in The sTATes: ioWA And My TWo MoMs WiTh ZACh WAhls An in The liFe doCuMenTAry FilM Wednesday | March 27 | 7 p.m.337 Cartwright Center

Zach Wahls discusses growing up with his two mothers and sister in this compelling film about what really makes a family. After testifying in front of the iowa House Judiciary Committee and speaking against a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage in the state of iowa, Wahls found himself in the national spotlight, which he has since thoroughly embraced and used to help shed light on this human rights issue. Feeling like an outsider and being afraid of being made fun or judged for his family, Wahls is able to reach out to others and share his story to help others in need. This film will supplement Zach Wahls lecture at UW-L on April 15, 2013.

Jessi Campbell creates boisterous laughs that have been featured on CMT’s Next Big Comic and can be regularly seen in Life and Style Magazine. She was esteemed to be part of the Army i.AM.STrONG tour in 2010 where she performed in front of thousands of men and women in the armed services. Since 2008 Jessi has performed at Gilda’s LaughFest, The Boston Comedy Festival, The Great American Comedy Festival, San Francisco SketchFest, and was the People’s Choice winner at the 2009 Aspen rooftop Comedy Festival.

Wisconsin natives Nick Prueher and Joe Pickett began a unique collection in 1991 when they stumbled upon a video entitled “inside ad Outside Custodial Duties” at a McDonalds. ever since they have acquired a vastly unique gold mine of video oddities that they gladly share with the world. Their collection will make you laugh, smile, and wonder how on earth they found such gems. Pickett was formerly a video technician and Prueher was formerly a Segment Producer for the Late Show with David Letterman. Both have written for The Onion and entertainment Weekly and directed the documentary Dirt Country, winning the audience award at he South by Southwest Film Festival.

ZACh WAhlsleCTureMonday | April 15 | 7:30 p.m.Valhalla, Cartwright Center-Gunning Addition

On January 31, 2011, Zach Wahls captured the nations attention when, as a 19-year-old University of iowa student, he testified in front of the iowa House Judiciary Committee regarding the proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage in iowa. As a man who was raised by two moms, Zach felt passionate about defending his mothers’ and others rights. His testimony, after being filmed and posted to youtube.com, went viral receiving 1.5 million views in just two weeks and exceeding 15 million by April 2012. Zach has become vocal about his family and the importance of equal treatment and marriage rights of people who identify as LGBTQQiA and is a major force in the movement for gay rights.

For the third year in a row a Wisconsin musical tradition, the UW-MadHatters, return to La Crosse, and this time for an OUTDOOr concert. easily the most-talented male a capella group in Wisconsin, if not the country, graces the UW-La Crosse campus with their distinctly energetic repertoire and unforgettable show. The MadHatters have had incredible success touring across the United States and Mexico, singing the National Anthem at Miller Park, and even performing for the President of United States. Bringing their trademark red jackets and charm, this is one Wisconsin tradition that UW-La Crosse is sure to embrace for years to come.
