High, Hot, and Heavy
The power of the V-22 is its ability to takeoff and land vertically and fly enroute as a turboprop
“If you have to land in the middle of the desert, you need a rotorcraft. If you have to fly a long way quickly and land in the middle of the desert, you need a tiltrotor.” – LtCol Bianca, VMM-261 CO
This versatility requires a compromise in blade design between the a rotor blade and a propeller; the result is the 47.5 degree twist proprotor
