February 3rd 2012 Anthony Clawson Page 3 Hey everyone, welcome back after a good and exciting weekend. For this week for the Agenda we will be look at pages 96 and 97. These pages are from January 31st to February 5th and they talk about many great things.
This week’s vocabulary word is glacier. This word is a noun and it means a field or stream of ice. An example of this would be Glaciers exist in high mountains throughout the temperate zones
and cover most of Antarctica. Glaciers recede during warm periods and can expand during cold periods, creating ice ages.
For this week’s study tip it is decide what to study (reasonable task and how many chapters, pages, problems, etc.). Set and stick to deadlines. When I
study, I usually calculate how many days to the test or due dates. Then I do some problems or study for a day so when the due date appears I did all the problems. I also do not do them all in one day so I did not overwork myself so I can have plenty of rest for the next day of school. One last thing learning them over time is better than all at once.
For this week in history on February 2nd on 1990 South Africa’s President FW de Klerk promises to free Nelson Mandela.
Mandela was a past president of South Africa who got put in prison because he
was convicted of sabotage. Klerk eventually did free Mandela for he had a life sentence in prison but he only spent 27 years and got out because of Klerk.
With Courage you will dare to take risks, have the strength to be compassionate and the wisdom to be humble. Courage is the foundation of integrity.
-‐Keshavan Nair Keshavan Nair was a philosopher that studied Gandhi and fun fact he also went to Ohio State University. What this quote means, people with courage will most likely to go farther in life because it says they have courage. People with courage take a risk which means they will do things that most people don’t and they take chances and these changes will make them go farther in life.

The Laws of Life Essay contest allows students to write about what they have learned and the core values they wish to follow. Honestly, perseverance, and integrity are just some of the laws that students wrote about. This year four students from Allen East made it into the contest. Now let’s see how our fellow classmates did on January 29, 2012.
Riley Delgado was awarded 3rd best essay at Allen East. Kourtney Reneau was awarded 2nd best essay at Allen East. Cole Plaugher was awarded best essay at Allen East. Jacob Lawrence did the best out of the four and was awarded 3rd place overall in the Lima area.
The Laws of Life character development program was founded by Sir John Templeton in 1987. This would be the sixteenth year of the Laws of Life contest here in Lima. Over Eight hundred ninety nine essays were sent in to be reviewed by the judges this year. Out of those essays 45 students were chosen from several different schools in the area to be invited to the event. It was held in the Lima Civic Center. The night proved to be one that will always be remembered by all forty five students. It consisted of dining, listening to the Lima Senior High Spartanaires, and the handing out of the awards to the essay winners.
Riley Delgado – “My essay was
about how nurturing and caring can change a person.” Kourtney Reneau – “My essay
value was about where much is given, much is expected.”
Cole Plaugher – “My essay was
about owning up to your mistakes because it will make you a better person in the end.” Jacob Lawrence – “My essay
talks about always doing your best and never giving up.”

Trisha Drury gets serious playing a card game after school at the Wednesday French Club meeting.

February 3rd, 2012 Athy Long Page10
With Mardi Gras quickly approaching on February 21st, the French Club is taking their
time to enjoy this widely celebrated event. Mardi Gras is typically a holiday for
Catholics to indulge before Ash Wednesday which starts the fasting days of Lent.
Mardi Gras is usually celebrated with parades and floats, and tons of parties with
gold, green, and purple beads, and a Mardi Gras party would not be complete without
a Kings Cake. A small plastic baby is usually hidden in the Kings Cake, and whoever
gets the plastic baby is dubbed king, and has to either host next year’s party or buy
next year’s King Cake.
Wednesday’s
French club
meeting was
from 3:00pm to
around 4:00pm.
Members
involved had fun
playing card games, Scrabble, and
Boggle. They also snacked on French
chocolate cookies. The French club
discussed ideas for their own way to
celebrate Mardi Gras.
The French club
plans on having a
French breakfast
on Mardi Gras.
The club also
plans on
introducing a Mardi Gras mini shoebox
float contest. This contest was
previously only available to only French
3 language students, but is now going
to be available to any French club
member. Let’s let the good times roll!
Madam K keeps track of the student’s scores as they play scrabble.
Alex Emerson seems to have a pretty good hand of cards.

They have come out victorious in many of their previous games so come out to the games a read on to learn more about theses exciting basketball players. Unfortunately we could not get the exact stats from the coach this week but it will be featured in the next Mustanger, along with the Upper Scioto game.
The girls are doing well this year and they had a game last on January 31, 2012 at home and this was against L.C.C. The girls tried very hard but they just couldn’t pull out with a win this week. So the Victory belonged to L.C.C.
The 8th grade girls are also played on January 31, 2012. This season they have won 3 out of all of their games. They also were at home against L.C.C., but they also were beat them by L.C.C.
More information on the two games will be added on the next Mustanger.

Prich’s dream car
February 3, 2012 Abby Wright Page 25 I’m sure we all have things that bug you, or make you kind of mad, or even upset. Let’s take a look at what some of our least favorite things are. My least favorite type of car is any car that has an
automatic transmission. Automatics are really dumb they are too easy to drive and take all the fun out of driving. A manual
transmission makes driving a more enjoyable and better experience. It also keeps you more focused on driving. Now my completely least favorite car is a front wheel drive car with an automatic transmission.

My least favorite season is winter. This is because I’m
not a big fan of the cold or the snow. Another big problem with winter is that it restricts you
from doing something’s with friends or something you want to do because the roads are bad. Then if you get bored just sitting at home after awhile, you don’t really feel like going outside because it’s bad out and it’s cold.

That feeling that you get when you are carrying something large down a set of stairs or going
down them in the dark and you think there is one more step. Your body freaks out with that last moment when you’re trying to decide if there is one more step or if you are on the bottom of the stairs now. It leaves you a little shaky from the experience and I hate it.
-‐ Isaac Spencer English class is one of my least favorites. I always disliked English. My reason is because I never get a good grade in the class and I always
have trouble with it. The worst reading that we do in English is Shakespeare. I honestly think English
class shouldn’t have Shakespeare. I can’t stand reading stories that are hard to understand and then we have to take a quiz over it the next day. English is the worst.

This week I took the time to go and find some students who had some problems and need a solution. Some were small and others were big, but I offer the ultimate solution for any problem that comes my way. Since I needed advice many times in my life, I have learned a lot, so I want to pass my knowledge on to people who need it and will use it
wisely. I know this advice will help the ones who asked and I hope it helps the ones who didn’t ask. Dear Mr. Advice, I have a friend who is always emotional. I want to help them but they won’t let me. How can I help them if they refuse to accept my help? Sincerely, Un-‐Happy Face Dear Un-‐Happy Face, I feel you on that. I once had a friend who would not accept help from any one. It was hard to not help. The most important thing to remember is you cant force help on anyone. You have to let them come to you. In some cases not helping people is the best way to help them. Sincerely, Mr. Advice Dear Mr. Advice, I like to make bonfires and sit around them when its sort of cold outside. One time I made a fire and wanted to make it bigger so I threw a spray paint can into the fire thinking it would make it bigger. Not only did it make it bigger but the can blew up in my face. How can I make a bigger fire without using things that will make it blow up? Sincerely, Blown Up Brad Dear Blown Up Brad, First of all ouch! That’s really dangerous to use any aerosol can because the pressure in the can will increase at high temperatures. To make a bigger fire you should use more wood, paper, or use straw. I would avoid anything super flammable because the more flammable it is the more dangerous it is to use. Sincerely, Mr. Advice
Dear Mr. Advice, My car has been pulling left to right. I don’t know a lot about cars and I’m an inexperienced driver. I don’t want to get in a wreck or cause one. I think it may be my tire going flat. How can I check if my tire is flat? Sincerely, Fix a Flat Dear Fix a Flat, You don’t have to know a lot about cars to see if your tire is flat. You should use a tire pressure gauge to
check the air in your tires or put pressure on your tires using your foot and if it gives in easy that tire is flat. When you check your air pressure in your tires you should have around the same amount of air in all four tires. If any of them are lower than the other you need to put air in them. If all else
fails, take it to a professional. Sincerely, Mr. Advice Dear Mr. Advice, I want to go to Apollo next year, but I don’t want to leave my friends who won’t be going there. I want to get some training for the career I want to pursue. What should I do? Please help! Sincerely, Split Decision Dear Split Decision, That is a tough decision but I can’t tell you what to do. I will tell you that friends come and go. If you decide to go to Apollo you will make new friends. You should still be able to maintain your friendship with your old friends. You could still hang out with them after school or on the weekends after all it’s not like you are moving far away. Sincerely, Mr. Advice
This is a big fire that used all of the proper burning materials.
