Atkins security consulting combines technical security knowledge and operational security experience, gained in a number of countries and cultures to deliver the best solutions to our clients.

Confidential project, military airbase

This £900m project encompassed the replacement of almost an entire military airbase with modern security facilities, demonstrating the full range of multidisciplinary skills within Atkins.

The design included extensive counter terrorism measures, such as advanced structural stability and integrity of beams, columns and roof rafters as well as cladding and glazing materials.

We reviewed the internal layout and masonry, paying particular attention to single-storey ties and struts.

We also designed the fencing arrangements and perimeter protection systems.

Working with resources across our business sectors, we can plan, design and enable security solutions for a range of projects, from physical security for installations to information assurance for government departments.

Training analysis and design>

All equipment and non-equipment development within the defence sector has to be supported by effective training that delivers the required capability. The rigorous application of support methodologies such as Training Needs Analysis (TNA) ensures that such training solutions are delivered on schedule and that ‘through life costs’ of acquisition, support and maintenance are properly captured.

Atkins is at the forefront of the TNA methodology offering a dynamic through-life perspective and a truly responsive long term approach. Our team is adaptable and has the capability to apply various training methodologies and skills across a variety of domains and environments.

This capability includes:

• Scoping studies

• Training needs analysis

• Quality audits

• Safety cases

• Job/task analysis

The significance of human factors on operational performance and safety has been recognised by the UK MOD through the application of human factors integration (HFI) to the procurement and design of equipment and sub-systems.

The application of the HFI framework optimises the operability, safety and reliability of a system, and reduces through-life-costs associated with re-design, manpower and training.

Atkins is an Ergonomics Society registered consultancy. Our human factors team includes qualified consultants with particular experience and expertise in a number of key applications including research programmes, acquisition and in-service support.
