Prayer Before WorshipHoly One, Jesus said, bless the little children and let them come.
I give thanks that the children came this week and were loved
by our church and by You. Let me see these children and be
reminded that I am to come to your presence like these little
ones. Amen.

Sunday Thought
VBS Poem Kathy Cox
FOLLOWING GOD TO VBSMy dishes went unwashed today,
I didn't make a bed
I took God's hand and followed him
To VBS instead.
Oh, yes, we went adventuring
The children and I;
Exploring the whole Bible
For truths we can't deny.
My house was sure neglected,
I didn't sweep a stair;
In twenty years no one on earth
Will know, or even care.
But that I've helped a boy or girl
To noble adulthood grow,
In twenty years the whole wide world
may look, and see and know.
*Offertory:“Bring A Gift Of Love”
Bring a gift of love, bring a gift of love.
Bring a gift of love today.
Bring an offering to our Lord & King,
tell the world he is the way.
Bring a gift of love, bring a gift of love.
Bring a gift of love today.
In this quiet hour of worship, bring a gift of love.
*The Doxology UM Hymnal, 95
Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise him all
creatures here below. Praise him above ye heavenly hosts.
Praise Father Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

HERE’S THE SCOOPJULY DINE OUT - July's Dine Out will be held at the Ledo Pizza in La Plata. This
is our first time at Ledo Pizza and I know our crowd will be strong. Please talk to
your family and friends because we get at least 10% of all sales during our time.
If we have a stronger showing they will give us bonus dollars for our success. The
date is July 16, 5:00 to 10:00 PM. No coupon needed, we look forward to having
you attend.
SMALL GROUP MEETINGS - La Plata Church will be holding small group
discussions surrounding the issues that divide us through the lens of scripture. If
you are interested in attending these sessions, please let the church office know
by phone, email, or by writing "struggling together" on the attendance pads. Once
attendance has been compiled, we will endeavor to schedule these groups at
various times to allow for maximum participation.
In addition, if you would like your voice to be heard beyond our local church,
the contact information for all Baltimore-Washington Conference officers,
including our Bishop, Cabinet, and our own District Superintendent is available
on the Conference website: bwcumc.org.
ADDRESS CHANGE - Please note that the Church mailing address has been
changed to 3 Port Tobacco Road, La Plata, MD 20646. We are no longer using the
Post Office Box.
STEWARDSHIP - In the summer months the outer doors swell and do not close
properly, please be sure to check that they are closed firmly and are locked when
you leave the building. Turn out the lights when you leave a room. Turn off the
heat/air conditioner in the room you are using. These are all things we can do to
keep our building secure, our members safe, and our operating costs down.
DONATIONS TO THE CHURCH - Please call the church office and get permission
before donating anything to the church.
CALENDAR - Call the church office today to get your 2019-2020 classes, meetings,
or events on the church calendar. On August 1, the calendar will be open to
outside groups, and will fill up fast. Please do not assume that your dates are on
the calendar, everyone must fill out a building use form in order to ensure that
your dates are scheduled.
LIFE LINE SCREENING - Life Line Screening, a leading provider of
community-based preventive health screenings, is pleased to offer a preventive
health event at La Plata United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 25, 2019. Five
screenings will be offered that scan for potential health problems related to:
blocked arteries which is a leading cause of stroke; abdominal aortic aneurysms
which can lead to a ruptured aorta; hardening of the arteries in the legs which is
a strong predictor of heart disease; atrial fibrillation or irregular heart beat which
is closely tied to stroke risk; and a bone density screening, for men and women,
used to assess the risk of osteoporosis. Register for a Wellness Package which
includes 4 vascular tests and osteoporosis screening from $149 ($139 with our
member discount). All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete. There are
three ways to register for this event and to receive a $10 discount off any package
priced above $129, please call toll-free 1-888-653-6441 or visit

cheese crackers etc.). You may place your donated items in the Food Donation Box
in the front entrance. Pet food donations are always appreciated. You can also
make monetary donations, just write "Food Pantry" in the memo line of your

LIFESTYLES - Hello LifeStyles Volunteers! We have been blessed this year and
have been able to keep our most vulnerable homeless population sheltered in a
new program we call Safe Nights 2. Remember Safe Nights 1 ended in April. We
pray these folks will transition directly to the new 24/7 shelter sometime soon. We
are in dire need of help providing meals for the weekends. Specifically, healthy
continental breakfasts and dinner meals to feed approximately 40 persons. These
meals have to be prepared off site and delivered to the site. If you think you
might be able to help us or would be willing to team up with other volunteers, or
could donate to feed the homeless, please contact Jakia Ball, Samaritan Project
Manager at [email protected] for more information.
FAITH SHARINGPLEASE INVITE YOUR FRIENDS - It is the simplest and most effective way to
share Christ with others: just invite your friends to church with you. Most people
who grew up as Christians and who aren't in a church say they just haven't found
a church they like, and because no one has invited them. Most people if you ask,
will say yes to an invitation. Just ask them to come to church for a special event,
or special Sunday, or to hear a sermon you think will help them.
ADMINISTRATIONPRAYER LIST - The bulletin prayer list page has been updated. If you have any
questions, or would like to add someone to the prayer list, please call Karen in the
church office.
RECYCLED CHRISTMAS - Please call the church office to schedule an appointment
to drop off your Christmas Recycle donations. All donations must be placed in the
attic.
Something To Think AboutA man was being tailgated by a stressed out woman on a busy boulevard.
Suddenly, the light turned yellow, just in front of him. He did the right
thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten The
red light by accelerating through the intersection.
The tailgating woman was furious and honked her horn, screaming in
frustration as she missed her chance to get through the intersection,
dropping her cell phone and makeup.
As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up
into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered her to exit
her car with her hands up. He took her to the police station where she was
searched, finger printed, photographed, and placed in a holding cell. After
a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door.
She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was
waiting with her personal effects.
He said, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your
car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front of you,
and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed the 'What Would Jesus Do'
bumper sticker, the 'Choose Life' license plate holder, the 'Follow Me to
Sunday-School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian fish
emblem on the trunk, Naturally... I assumed you had stolen the car."
