The all-you-can-eat
fish fry is a dying breed.Whereas once upon aFriday night, fish fryfeasters could send theirplates back to thekitchen for seconds, thirds, even fourth help-ings, these days mostrestaurants limit you toa single serving.
Kathan Inn & Resort,however, still offers theall-you-can-eat fish fry,available from 11 a.m. to9 p.m. both Thursdaysand Fridays.
The fish fry featureslong, thick pieces of had-dock, covered in beer bat-ter and deep-fried to agolden brown. Sides in-clude rye bread andcoleslaw and either pota-to salad or crispyshoestring fries.
Jim and Barb Dom-nick took over ownershipof Kathan Inn & Resortin October of 2005 andwelcome you to the innfor a great dining experi-ence. Barb said, “KathanInn’s fish fry stands outfor a few reasons, thequality ingredients, likethe haddock and the beerbatter, and their close at-
tention to details.” Thefish size is a cut above, too. The pieces are verylarge. Many of the samepeople dine at theKathan Inn for fish everyFriday and then, of course, there are manynewcomers.
At the Kathan Inn,the menu selection hassomething for everyone.
If fish dinners aren’tyour thing, don’t worry. There is a diverse selec-tion of burgers and sand-wiches, Mexican entrées,homemade pizzas andwraps.
Kathan Inn has re-cently unveiled a newsummer menu, keepingall of the favorites butadding fantail shrimp,
buffalo shrimp and manynew hot and cold sand-wiches. Also new thissummer, Kathan Inn of-fers buckets of fish onboth Thursday and Fri-day nights.
In addition to indoordining, another great fea-ture at Kathan Inn is the
outdoor deck overlookingprivate Kathan Lake.“When the weather isnice, most diners prefereating outside, so we arefortunate that we canoffer the outdoor lakesidedining,” said Barb Dom-nick.
Other specials offeredat Kathan Inn include$2, third-pound burgers
Mondays and spaghetti
Tuesdays. Wednesdaynight is chili night (chilifries, chili dogs, chili na-chos, chili burgers, chiliburritos, etc.) and Thurs-days, enjoy the 35-centchicken wings. Sit downto a delicious broastedchicken dinner Satur-days (or take a buckethome) and Sundays, takeadvantage of “dog days”

Brad and Judy Wald-mann moved to St. Ger-main in 1985 to fulfilltheir dream of living inthe North Woods. Justdays before ringing in theNew Year, they took overownership of the DutchDoor Tavern and begantheir 25-year journey.
By making contacts
through the tavern’s cus-tomers, Brad Waldmannbegan performing smallcarpentry-related pro-
jects with the help of justa few friends.
In 1990, after losingthe Dutch Door to a firethe previous winter, theybecame recognized as tal-ented builders as the newDutch Door Tavern build-
ing took shape. Wald-mann Construction soonhired several full-timeemployees and beganbuilding homes.
The business grew, asdid the firm’s reputation. With Brad Waldmann’sdesign skills, manyhomes became uniquestatements to the owners’individual preferences.
“Clients knew theycould count on him tocomplete their project ontime and within budget,”said Judy Waldmann.
In 1993, Waldmann
Construction became in-
corporated and added therest of its current in-house trades, which in-clude excavation, con-crete, custom cabinetry, drywall and painting.
In addition to homes,Waldmann Constructionhas built many recogniz-able commercial build-ings including fire sta-tions in St. Germain,
Eagle River, Three Lakesand Newbold, and theFirst National Bankbuildings in St. Germainand Three Lakes.
Waldmann Construc-
tion also has designed
and built additions tomany churches in thearea, including St. Mary’sCatholic Church in Sayn-er, Ely United Church of Christ in Land O’ Lakesand Pioneer LakeLutheran Church inConover.
“As attention to ourenvironment became anissue in the building in-dustry, Waldmann Con-struction became a certi-fied ‘green’ builder andWisconsin Focus on Ener-gy partner, committed to
protecting the environ-
ment with sustainable,low-maintenance, ener-gy-efficient homes,” saidBrad Waldmann.
The green building in-dustry is growing byleaps and bounds, despitethe recent downturn inthe economy, with Wald-mann building seven En-ergy Star-certified homesover the past two years.
“A Wisconsin EnergyStar-certified home ismore efficient in terms of heating than similar-sized new homes built in
Wisconsin,” explainedBrad Waldmann.
In the last 25 years,Waldmann Constructionhas grown to its currentstatus of up to 45 highlytrained individuals.
“For optimum qualitycontrol, we employ onlythe highest-skilled per-sonnel,” said Judy Wald-
mann. As a general contrac-
tor, Waldmann Construc-tion manages the entirebuilding experience fromstart to finish.
“We keep a watchfuleye and hands-on ap-proach from the momentthe client chooses a planto the day they move intotheir finished project,”
said Brad Waldmann.“Our philosophy that asuccessful project leavesa lasting positive influ-ence on everyone in-
volved has led to repeatbusiness from pastclients and many lifelongfriendships.”
Waldmann Construc-tion is licensed in Wiscon-sin and Michigan.
Waldmann Construc-tion is located in St. Ger-main at 6221 Highway70 E. The office may becontacted at (715) 479-3132 or email [email protected].
