    Earn Health and Happiness

    via Sports and Games

    The first and foremost duty of an individual

    is to take care of his/her body. People with physi-

    cal ailments and disturbed mind will not succeed

    in life. Sports is food for the body and soul. Most

    people who involve in sports and games have

    athletic bodies. Exercise is a magic drug for de-

    pression and anxiety disorders.

    Play in youth, Pay in old age, health wise is an adage and advice.

    Health is an important kind of wealth, which alone will enable to create

    all other forms of wealth. Intelligence and merit has no value without

    sound physique. It is said that a sturdy cobbler is better than a sick

    king.

    Plato , the father of medicine observed that inactivity destroys the

    good condition of every humanbeing.

    Health cannot be bestowed upon one person by another person. It

    has to be earned. Instead of talking about punishment for culprits, we

    should sensitize and train our children and women to stand up for

    themselves with muscles of iron and nerves of steel ( Swami

    Vivekananda) through Movement Education in Educational institu-

    tions and work places.

    We must make fitness sessions more playful with push ups, pull

    ups, tug of war, floor exercise, machine work outs, aerobics, dancing,

    jump & jump, swimming, rowing, cycling, skating , skipping, climbing

    steps and playing games. Walking for 30 minutes every day can do

    wonders to your mood. Muscles need stimulus to grow and keep fit.

    The way you walk, the way you dress, the way you interact with

    people and the body build will make you young. Sports and exercise

    will give you sexy back, rippling chest, toned arms, flab abbs and

    sculptured thighs. It will increase strength, endurance, flexibility, agil-

    ity and body balance.

    Research studies proved that, physically active people who exer-

    cise regularly and eat right can be 10-20 years younger biologically

    than their chronological age. Scientists proved that our body ages

    faster when we do not move. Our body wants us to walk, run, jump and

    rejoice.

    Life style diseases and disorders are the major problems of the 21st

    century. 90% of the non- communicable diseases are related to life

    style disorder. A recent World Health Organisation (W.H.O.) report

    says , westernised life style in developing countries are causing health

    hazards. Today people watch more sports than they play. Due to

    globalisation sun does not set in metro cities. People sit in front of

    computer for more than 8 hours in a day. Highly configured laptop,

    long working hours, physical inactivity and errotic meals lead to dis-

    eases, discomfort and obesity. In this over tight schedule of the uni-

    verse, human beings are leading a mechanical life.

    If the life style is not checked or regulated, it will lead to severe

    disaster to the humanity. Stress, hypertension, anger, sleep disorder ,

    disbetes, impotency, alcoholism, tobacco use are on the increase.

    You want to feel good about yourself ?

    Do a little exercise!!!

    Physical activity is a simple, enjoyable amd costless medicine for

    all. It gives the ability to carry out daily worktasks with vigour and not

    getting tired. Sports and Games will destress and induce sleep.

    VASAN EYE CARE HOSPITAL, VALASARAVAKKAM

    CELEBRATES World Health Day April 7th 2013

    Put Your Eye

    on Good Health!

    World Health Day is

    celebrated on 7 April to mark the

    anniversary of the founding of

    WHO in 1948. Each year a theme

    is selected for World Health Day

    that highlights a priority area of

    public health concern in the

    world.

    The theme for 2013 is high

    blood pressure.

    About High Blood Pressure:-

    High blood pressure also known

    as raised blood pressure orhypertension increases the risk

    of heart attacks, strokes and

    kidney failure. If left

    uncontrolled, high blood

    pressure can also cause

    blindness, irregularities of the

    heartbeat and heart failure. The

    risk of developing these

    complications is higher in the

    presence of other cardiovascular

    risk factors such as diabetes. One

    in three adults worldwide has

    high blood pressure. The

    proportion increases with age,

    from 1 in 10 people in their 20s

    and 30s to 5 in 10 people in their

    50s. Prevalence of high blood

    pressure is highest in some low-

    income countries in Africa, with

    over 40% of adults in many

    African countries thought to be

    affected.

    However, high blood pressure

    is both preventable and treatable.

    In some developed countries,

    prevention and treatment of the

    condition, together with other

    cardiovascular risk factors, has

    brought about a reduction in

    deaths from heart disease.

    The risk of developing highblood pressure can be reduced

    by:

    reducing salt intake;

    eating a balanced diet;

    avoiding harmful use of

    alcohol;

    taking regular physical

    activity;

    maintaining a healthy body

    weight;

    avoiding tobacco use.
