Valentine’s Day Syllable Sort 1, 2, and 3 syllable words
CC link: * RF.PK.2.c Count, pronounce, blend, and segment syllables in spoken words. * RF.K.2.b Count, pronounce, blend, and segment syllables in spoken words. Materials:
• Valentine’s Day syllable counting cards • Heart syllable counting EPR cards (1 per student) • Valentine’s Day themed container or bag • 3 heart pages with numerals 1, 2, and 3 on them
To play: • Place the cards in a Valentine’s Day themed container or bag. • Students take turns pulling one card out of the container. • All students stomp out or use duck lips to segment and count the syllables
in the words. • Students clip their clothespins on the EPR sheet. • Check for accuracy and model as needed. • Have student who pulled the card place in the heart with the correct
number of syllables.
