Model Based Diagnostics (MBD)
MBD uses data from all sensors in the turbine to detect a deviant behavior (symptoms) in a system
before it results into a warning or a fault.
Examples include:
Room temperature models
Cooling capacity models
Leak detection models
Electronics environment models

A model of the type
is called an accelerated lifetime model,
where is a ”stress space”.
Accelerated Lifetime Models (ALM)
Standard Weibull Model How to incoporate (site specific) effects of:
• wind speed
• turbulence
• temperature
• etc?
Example:
where T is temperature is based on Arrhenius
equation linking temperature to chemical
reaction rates

ALM application
A main wind turbine component is exposed to insulation wear which is accelerated by high
ambient temperature and/or wind speed. Number of failures on otherwise identical sites
varies widely.
