Background • Early college high schools have been established in Texas for the
last 11 years • There are 165 early college high schools in the state • Over 20,000 students attend early college high schools • In 2017-2018 YISD will have three different early college high school
options

The purpose of an early college high school is to provide students with… • a rigorous high school education • the opportunity to graduate from high school with an Associate’s
degree from El Paso Community College • the chance to earn college credit towards a bachelor’s degree at
UTEP prior to high school graduation under the Accelerated Student Scholarship Program

Associate’s Degree • EPCC credits transfer to any PUBLIC university • Credits earned MAY transfer to private or out-of-state universities

Financial Benefits • EPCC covers the cost of tuition • YISD covers the cost of textbooks • Students can save approximately $20,000 for the first two years of
college

Who should attend? • Students who understand that hard work is the key to their future
success. These students: – have strong study habits – have grit – value education – set goals – are willing to work hard – want to graduate high school with an Associate’s degree from EPCC
• Early college high schools are NOT think tanks for the students with the highest grade point average.
