ing in the 2017-18 program year,
as well as monthly all-staff meet-
ings, and weekly team meetings.
Our Service Mem-
bers are using these
tools to assist in
planning and prepar-
ing for their lives
after AmeriCorps.
There are many advantages to
joining the PASS AmeriCorps
Program: the experience in a
school site, the professional de-
velopment, the resume building,
the networking with other pro-
fessionals, and the opportunity to
make a difference in the life of a
child, and more.
One of the new benefits that
PASS AmeriCorps is able to offer
this year is the skills building and
career counseling resource guide
called the “AmeriCorps Ad-
vantage.”
This guide provides activities,
tips, strategies, resources, web-
sites, advice, and more to Ameri-
Corps Service
Members in
AmeriCorps pro-
grams throughout
the nation.
The PASS Ameri-
Corps Program
has incorporated
portions of the
guide into our

The PASS “AmeriCorps Advantage”
In December, the PASS Ameri-
Corps Program incorporated a
holiday event into its monthly
meeting and mini-training.
Along with our regular agenda
items of program news, tips, and
upcoming events, we had a fellow
AmeriCorps Member, Virginia
Davis, from the American Red
Cross come and provide a mini-
training on hands-only CPR. We
also heard about the Pillowcase
Project that the Red
Cross may be able to
bring in to interested
elementary schools
to help teach chil-
dren about disaster
preparedness.
During the day,
Members also partic-
ipated in team building
activities, such as an
Ugly Holiday Sweater
competition and a
White Elephant Gift
Exchange.
Happy Holidays with PASS!
It was a great way to learn a
little, share a little, and have a
little fun as we close out the first
semester of the school year.
Happy Holidays to everyone and
we will see you in the new year!

"You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of
yourself that you truly give." - The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran
Josh and Jacob after
the Award Assembly
November has
been a busy month
in PASS. In the
beginning of the
month, many PASS
students attended
an award ceremony
where they re-
ceived awards for
their academic
achievements.
Some of these
awards are now displayed in
the PASS room for all to see.
VCMS also held a variety show
during November, which all
students attended; there were
even some PASS students who
performed in the show. It was
a great success! Also during
the month of November, PASS
met with ASB to begin plan-
ning activities for nutrition
break to promote kindness on
campus. These brainstorming
meetings went well, and PASS
looks forward to helping ASB
carry out those activities in the
near future. November
marked the beginning of after
school tutoring in PASS, as
well. After school tutoring will
be offered from 3:00pm to
4:15pm on Mondays, Tuesdays,
and Wednesdays in Room 902.
Students must have a signed
form in order to stay after
school for PASS tutoring.
Happy Holidays!
running by next trimester. Not
only are students proactive in
creating their student govern-
ment, they also helped create
beautiful cards for Veterans’
Day. The cards that the stu-
dents made will be given to the
Veteran's Association of North
County, who will distribute
them to local veterans. As
November flew by at Oak
Glen. We are currently in the
process of creating a student
government and have received
a lot of positive feedback from
students. We have a bright
group of founders who are
helping craft the foundation of
the student government. We
are hoping to have it up and
December finishes, it will be
crunch time at OG because
finals are just around the cor-
ner. I am sure that the stu-
dents will knock their exams
out of the park and I wish
them the best of luck. I also
wish them and their families a
wonderful holiday season.
ASB hand out all the kudos to
students and staff. In an unex-
pected incident, our Jaguar Fami-
ly suffered a tragic and heart-
breaking loss. Three members of
the Latulippe family lost their
lives in a car accident - father
Scott, mother Nancy and son
Jackson. Scott was a beloved
teacher on campus and Jackson
was a freshman at VCHS. As
PASS mentors, we made our-
selves available for extra
school supervision and class-
room assistance. The Valley
Center community is helping
to support the family. You can
visit the school's website for
more information. As the holi-
days are upon us, we wish
everyone Happy Holidays and
Safe Travels!
Cheers to another
successful month in
Valley Center High
School. Our PASS
students made
thank you posters
for our staff veter-
ans on campus in
honor of Veterans’
Day. We also
wrapped up October's Make
Your Mark Project by having
A couple of Veteran's Day cards that will
be distributed at a local military base.

The PASS AmeriCorps Program serves stu-
dents in grades 3 through 12 at 30 school sites

through individual and group mentoring, aca-
demic support, grades and attendance reviews,
leadership development, guest speakers, ser-
vice learning projects, and parent outreach.
Through their service with PASS, our Ameri-
Corps members are able to create positive
change in our schools and communities.
