Reminders about morning drop-off
The school and cafeteria open daily for students at 7:30 am. Please
use our two drop off lanes and do not pull in to the parking lot and
send your child walking through oncoming traffic. Let’s work together
to keep your children safe. The bell rings at 8:00 am. If you arrive
after 8:00, please escort your child to the office to get a tardy slip.

Perfect Attendance (continued)
Class News
Wow! What always feels like the busiest six weeks of the year, and
it's already over! School is in FULL swing, and October was definitely
FULL! We learned about all things FALL! Our units of study included:
apples, pumpkins, spiders, fire safety, and leaves - plus much more!
Our letter and sound study continues as well. We had such a good
time at the pumpkin patch. Our Fall parties were awesome, so thank
you, families, for getting that together. We have some busy weeks
ahead with the holidays - so get ready!!

Another grading period has flown by! This six weeks, Kindergarten had a GREAT Halloween
party! Thank you so much to all the parents who made that possible. We had LOTS of fun when
we studied the life cycle and the uses of pumpkins during our pumpkin unit! We are still prac-
ticing counting to 100 and learning more and more sight words. Don't forget to check your
child's folder and remove the papers daily.

First Grade had a very busy 6-weeks. In Social Studies, we
studied the life of Christopher Columbus and his brave voy-
age. We learned the importance of fire safety in Science.
Later in the 6-weeks, we celebrated Red Ribbon Week with
several fun activities. A highlight for 1st Grade was Skate
Week! The students really loved this special time! We also
enjoyed Fall Carnival and our class party. This was a very
busy and exciting time for us!
Field Trip!
Page 8 Valley View Elementary
The second six weeks was quite busy. We concluded our animal unit with a trip to the Frank
Buck Zoo in Gainesville where we viewed many interesting animals. We went to the Fire Pre-
vention Program at NCTC where we learned about fire safety. We had a great time during
skate week. In math we learned about adding two digit numbers. For Health, we did a week
full of Red Ribbon Week activities to remind us to stay drug free. In Social Studies we stud-
ied many inventors and their innovating inventions. We've been working on summaries and
cause and effect in reading.
1st Grade BASH fun!

Halloween party! More skate week
Thank you parents for helping to make our fall parties fun for the students. Third grade has
been busy learning many new things. In Health we completed our unit on Fire Safety. The stu-
dents learned about the many jobs firefighters have and the types of equipment they use. We
also talked briefly about fire dogs and their important role at the fire department. This six
weeks in Science we learned that matter is everything around you. The students found that
physical properties of matter can be observed or measured. They used a pan balance to meas-
ure mass and compared the volume of different objects. In Social Studies we are learned
about 3 different communities. Some are small and some are large. Communities are alike in
some ways and different in other ways. When you compare communities, you can tell more
about the people who live in them. We also learned about the 7 continents, Great Lakes and the
four major oceans. This six weeks our math studies included multiplication, perimeter, and
graphs. We continue working on Reading skills to prepare for STAAR.

Learning a lot in third grade.
The second six-weeks have been a busy, exciting time
in the 4th grade! Students have finished up learning
and practicing multi-digit multiplication and division.
Grammar skills have been taught and implemented to
prepare the students for upcoming writing. In Sci-
ence, the kids have been enthralled with circuits and
magnets! They learned about the Texas Regions and
their characteristics in Social Studies, and had an
exciting adventure in Health with the Nutrition Expedition Unit. We finished
the six-weeks with a rewarding trip to the Gainesville Leonard Park for
BASH! We want to thank Mrs. Martindale for her time for filling in for Mrs.
Wyrick while she cared for her newborn. Lastly, welcome back Mrs. Wyrick!
