VANAX® 107 Pastilles Accelerator
VANAX® 107 Pastilles AcceleratorThe Next Generation DOTG Replacement
for Both High Performance and General Elastomers
Due to regulatory concerns, guanidine-free cure systems that maintain high performance are desirable as alternatives to DOTG. VANAX® 107 Pastilles Accelerator is a highly effective part- for-part drop-in DOTG replacement for use in Vamac® ethylene acrylic elastomers (AEM) and Hytemp® polyacrylate elastomers (ACM). It also replaces the use of DOTG in other cure systems and polymers, such as zinc oxide-cured DuPont™ Neoprene and sulfur-cured Natural Rubber. VANAX 107 Pastilles provides heat-aged retention similar to DOTG-containing cure systems, allowing for easy development of replacement compounds and direct modification of existing systems, while formulating out DOTG. This patent-pending product was developed in the Rubber Laboratory of Vanderbilt Chemicals, LLC.
VANAX 107 Pastilles was tested as a part-for-part replacement of DOTG in a typical ACM compound. VANAX 107 Pastilles shows equivalent percent retained elongation and compression when compared to DOTG.

VANAX® 107 Pastilles Accelerator was also tested as a part-for-part replacement of DOTG in a standard AEM G compound. The physical properties show the equivalence of VANAX 107 Pastilles in multiple heat-aged studies. Figures 2 and 3 highlight the retained elongation and compression set equivalence of VANAX 107 Pastilles when compared to DOTG in each heat-aged period.

VANAX® 107 Pastilles Accelerator
DOTG is often used in Neoprene (CR) cure systems with sulfur and TMTM for a balance of scorch safety and cure rate, while maintaining reasonably good heat resistance. DOTG Neoprene cure systems are also recommended for CR blends with SBR and other diene rubbers. VANAX® 107 Pastilles Accelerator is a part-for-part drop-in replacement for DOTG in zinc oxide-cured Neoprene.

VANAX® 107 Pastilles Accelerator was next tested in a sulfur-cured NR to show its use in a general elastomer DOTG replacement. VANAX 107 Pastilles product performance is similar to the other polymers; its physical properties achieved and maintained are equivalent to those of DOTG, but its rheology is lower. The heat-aged physical properties of VANAX 107 Pastilles demonstrate that it is equivalent to DOTG.

VANAX® 107 Pastilles Accelerator
ConclusionReplacement guanidine-free cure systems that maintain high performance are highly desirable as alternatives
to DOTG. VANAX 107 Pastilles was specifically developed for the use in acrylic elastomers and is shown to be
a viable option for general DOTG replacement. This new accelerator is a part-for-part drop-in replacement for
DOTG while maintaining its high performance heat-aged retention. VANAX 107 Pastilles allows for the easy
development of replacement compounds, and the direct modification of existing systems, while formulating
out DOTG in both acrylic and general elastomers.
