Easy to Use, Available in 3, 6, or 12 Dry-Contact InputsThe Model CT-6500 Series 2 is a stand-alone, microcomputer-driven EHV Circuit-Breaker Analyzer. It is inexpensive and easy to use. The CT-6500 is available inmodels with either 3 dry contacts (CT-6500-3); 6 dry-contacts (CT-6500-6); or 12dry-contact inputs (CT-6500-12). The CT-6500 fully analyzes circuit-breaker per-formance: contact time, stroke, velocity, over-travel, and contact wipe. Contact-motion analysis includes: Open, Close, Open-Close, Close-Open, and Open-Close-Open. The CT-6500 timing window is selectable: 1-second, 10-second, or 20-sec-ond periods. The 10 and 20-second timing windows allow timing the long durationevents (Circuit-Switcher contacts).

Contact Timing InputsBreaker contact timing uses dry-contact input channels. Each contact-input chan-nel can detect main contact and insertion-resistor contact times (milliseconds andcycles).

Voltage Monitoring InputsOne analog voltage input channel is dedicated to monitoring circuit-breaker dcpower supply or coil voltages 0 to 300 volts, dc or peak ac. One digital voltageinput channel allows users to monitor voltage on/off status of an A/B switch.

Trip/Close Current MonitoringA built-in Hall-effect current sensor records Trip/Close current level and duration. The breaker’s operate-coil current waveform duration (effectively, a performance"fingerprint" or "current profile") can be used as a diagnostic tool for analysis ofa breaker’s performance.

Breaker Stroke and VelocityThree travel transducer digital channels let the CT-6500 measure stroke, over-trav-el, and bounce-back. Unlike other types of transducers, the digital transducerrequires neither calibration nor setup.

Slow-Close TestWhen a cable-connected travel transducer is attached to a circuit breaker (formeasuring contact velocity), the Analyzer can also print out a table of "slow-close" test results. This Analyzer’s feature is a tool for accurately measuring con-tact-travel during circuit-breaker maintenance (when the circuit-breaker con-tact motion is slowly jacked through the stroke by manual operation i.e., ahand-operated "slow-close" test).

Timing Record Storage CapabilitiesThe CT-6500 uses Electrically Erasable PROMs (EEPROMs) to store timing-records data. Unlike other storage media, EEPROMs are immune to shock, tem-perature, and humidity. Stored timing records can be recalled by users to re-analyze test data, to print copies, or to transfer data to an IBM-compatible PCfor record keeping. Up to 200 timing records can be stored in EEPROMs.

Breaker Initiate FeaturesA built-in solid-state initiate device lets users operate the breaker from the CT-6500. The operational modes include: Open, Close, Open-Close, Close-Open,and Open-Close-Open. Multiple operations (e.g., Open-Close, Open-Close-Open) can be initiated by using programmable delay time or by sensing break-er’s contact condition.

Diagnostic CapabilitiesThe CT-6500 can perform diagnostics on its internal electronics. Self testing oftransducer and contact-test cables lets users check out the Timer whenever ver-ification is required.

Computer InterfaceThe CT-6500 can be used in the stand-alone mode or computer controlledmode. USB and RS-232C Ports allow an IBM-PC compatible computer to con-trol the CT-6500. From the PC, circuit breakers can be timed and users canretrieve timing shots saved in the CT-7500 flash EEPROM. A Windows® XP-basedBreaker-Analysis software lets users time circuit breakers, retrieve test-shotdata stored in the computer’s hard-drive, re-analyze the stored data, and gener-ate reports in the office. Test reports can be exported to Excel, allowing the userto generate customized test-result reports. Users may also create a circuit-breaker database library.

User InterfaceAn alpha-numeric keypad lets users enter breaker ID and control functions. A 4-line by 20-character LCD readout displays user messages. The LCD is back lightedso messages can be viewed in low light levels. A display contrast control is locatedon the front panel.

Built-in Thermal PrinterA built-in thermal printer prints the breaker contact analysis results in both tabu-lar and graphic formats on 4.5-inch-wide thermal paper.

Vanguard Instruments Company, Inc.

Vanguard Instruments Co., (VIC), was founded in 1991.Currently, our 28,000 square-foot facility housesAdministration, Design & Engineering, and Manufacturingoperations. From its inception, VIC’s vision was, and is todevelop and manufacture innovative test equipment foruse in testing substation EHV circuit breakers and otherelectrical apparatus.

The first VIC product was a computerized circuit-breaker analyzer, which was a resounding success. Itbecame the forerunner of an entire series of circuit-breaker test equipment. Since its beginning, VIC’sproduct line has expanded to include microcomputer-based, precision micro-ohmmeters, single and three-phase transformer winding turns-ratio testers, wind-ing-resistance meters, transformer tap-changing con-trollers, megaohm resistance meters, and a variety ofother electrical utility maintenance support products.

VIC’s performance-oriented products are well suitedfor the utility industry. They are rugged, reliable, accu-rate, user friendly, and most are computer controlled.Computer control, with innovative programming, pro-vides many automated testing functions. VIC’s instru-ments eliminate tedious and time-consuming opera-tions, while providing fast, complex, test-result calcu-lations. Errors are reduced and the need to memorizelong sequences of procedural steps is eliminated.Every VIC instrument is competitively priced and iscovered by a liberal warranty.
