With the RCS 97 climbing rail connector,RCS climbing rails can be extendedwithout any loss of load-bearing capacity.In addition, SLS heavy-duty spindlescan be attached.

The RCS/SRU angle connector can beinstalled both as an articulated as well

as rigid connection.

Frame structures and brackets are con-structed with the Climbing Rail AngleConnector RCS. Connecting the SLSheavy-duty spindles or tie yoke is also

easily carried out.

SLS heavy-duty spindles are mountedto the RCS climbing rails by means ofSLS/RCS spindle adapters.

The RCS scaffold tube adapter ø 48connects scaffold tubes ø 48 with theload-carrying system.

For using the RCS climbing rail as walingfor wall formwork, the GT 24 is mounted

with the Hook Strap Uni HBU 24-26 U 200.

The separate casting method is the

simplest variant for the construction

of tunnels using the cut-and-cover

modus operandi.

Here, the advantages of the VARIOKITconstruction kit really come into theirown. Through the possibility of beingable to rent the system, a mobile trans-porting unit pays off also if only a fewcycles are required.Economical formwork solutions as well

as tunnel cross-sections with variabledimensions are the standard applica-tions of the separate casting method.All PERI wal and slab formwork sys-tems can be used here.Mobile solutions are normally realisedwith VARIOKIT components.

■Technical processing

  Well-engineered technical planningallows cost-effective and efficientsolutions which are precisely tailoredto meet the requirements of the con-struction site. Regardless whether itis access portals for trucks or single-sided wall formwork with overheadsupport, such solutions are problem-free with VARIOKIT.

■Wall formwork

A mobile fomwork carriage was also

designed for this centre wall of a double-tube motorway tunnel.

The formwork elements are suspendedwith chain hoists on the portal. Thismeans shuttering and striking can be

carried out without a crane.

As a general rule, a fomwork carriage

for mining tunnels must fulfil very

high requirements regarding wet

concrete pressure and dimensional

accuracy.

With shorter tunnels (up to approx. 40

sections) as well as for widened areasetc., fomwork carriages which havebeen assembled using rentable systemcomponents are used.

It is particularly with the use of thesestandard components that the advan-tages are clearly demonstrated throughthe short operating times or very fewsections. Rentable components also forhigh loads, hydraulic control elementand electric drive units, make thestandard carriage very easy to use. In

addition, the time required for assem-bly and dismantling as well as movingare about the same with both versions.

For mining tunnels, access portals are animportant prerequisite for the use.

The PERI UP scaffold system offers all possibili-ties - from a simple stair tower through to acomplete sealing carriage.

Technically demanding solutions and easy han-dling are not mutually exclusive. As a result,constructions can be realised with VARIOKITwhich optimally fulfil the boundary conditions ofthe construction site.

Optional VARIOKIT accessories such as hydrau-lic winches, electric drive units, lifting and low-

ering units and hydraulic cylinders for operatingthe wall and slab formwork elements are availa-

ble in the VARIOKIT construction kit and, if nec-essary, are planned according to project re-quirements.

This tunnel formwork carriage can fold itself tosuit the passage dimension of the standardcross-section, move laterally along the correctaxis (with the help of the lifting and loweringunit) and subsequently move forward. Afterthis, it is moved sideways again and broughtinto the concreting position.

■High permissible concrete pressure

  A mining tunnel formwork carriagesafely accommodate wet concretepressures of up to 120 kN/m².

System components for the carriage and themovable formwork suspension allow flexibleutilization.

The extremely high loads carried by

a tunnel formwork carriage during

mining operations present a special

challenge for PERI VARIOKIT.

In order to effectively manage the forc-es and, at the same time, provide con-struction site traffic an access portal,the VARIOKIT with anchoring compo-nents combination is supplementedwith the SB brace frame system.For smaller tunnel lengths (< 40 cycles)

with short section lengths (< 20 m) andtight construction schedules (< 12months), solutions using rentable partsare considerably more cost-effectivethan complete project solutions withspecial steel components.

For tunnels constructed using mining

techniques, the formwork is always

designed whilst considering ancillary

conditions which are, in part, not

compatible:■ Large loads resulting from the fresh

concrete pressure and dead weight.■ Low individual weights due to tight

space conditions during assembly andoperations.

■ Minimum of material costs from highproportion of rental parts and smallquantities.

■ Few operating elements and optimallyadapted to suit construction progress.

■ Simple operation of large units.

The experience gained from brace frame an-choring can also be used in the 2nd cycle.

Best concrete results from the 2nd cycle(wall area) form the exit for the archedformwork carriage.

The first section with the bottom slab andstarter has already been concreted.

The VARIOKIT parapet track is used

for the construction and refurbish-

ment of parapets at the edge of

bridges and between the superstruc-

tures.

Their main components are:■multifunctional rails■roller unit■anchoring

The interaction of these 3 parts leads tothe fact that load cases such as mov-ing, vertical and horizontal concreteloads and the dead weight are likewisetransferred like loads from working op-erations and wind without any addition-al fixings to the superstructure. Throughthe anchoring to the underside of the

bridge and the low structural height,the parapet to be formed is freely ac-cessible. Working operations can becarried out on and under the bridge dur-ing moving traffic.

All required adjustment work takesplace from the working platform. At thesame time, there is an option of using asecond working platform.

The different versions can be adapt-

ed to the structure and allow:■ keeping the clearance profile free■ construction of special geometries■ working areas for inspection work on

the structure´s web.

Short cantilever overhangs, inter-ruptions through transversal steelgirders in the area of the cantileverand limited clearance profiles arethe decision criteria for the PERIVARIOKIT parapet carriage.

Projects with special requirements such as thisbridge show the high degree of variability ofthe PERI VARIOKIT parapet carriage. Here,5.00 m had to be spanned without support onthe pedestrian and cycle lanes.

The lightweight PERI parapet bracket

can be installed by hand and roundsoff the range of parapet solutions.

For the new construction of short

bridge superstructures as well as re-

furbishment, the parapet bracket is a

rational and economical solution.

Special attention during the develop-ment was focused on the weight reduc-tion of individual components. Theheaviest part weighs only 18 kg andthus allows assembly by hand.

Apart from the weight reduction, partic-

ular importance was placed on com-pletely separating the formwork sup-port from the platform. Due to thisseparation, closed through to water-tight enclosures can be realised.Adjusting to the parapet geometry andoperations safely takes place from theclosed platform.

For the construction crew this

means:

After the initial assembly, access bymeans of an elevating work platform or

scaffolding is not necessary.

Due to separating the formwork support and

platform, re-installation of the platform after thedemolition work for concreting is not required.The formwork support is simply positioned onthe platform.

the realisation of bridge cantilevers

using the steel composite and semi-

VARIOKIT for bridge constructionLaunched traveller

The PERI VARIOKIT solution for the

building method with underslung

and overhead launched travellers.

In the process, the solution overheadlaunched traveller has a main beam onwhich the crosswise arranged trussesare positioned which carry the concret-ing loads of the cantilever. With suspen-sion tie rods on the outer frame, all ad-justing possibilities regarding inclinationand position are possible.

■Hydraulic operations

  For some VARIOKIT projects, there isthe option of being able to operatethe formwork components with amobile hydraulic system which is alsoavailable for use with the above-posi-tioned launched traveller. Thus, only 4hydraulic lifting cylinders are requiredregardless of the number of raisedformwork units.

The transfer of the bearing loads into the pier isa very important area. Adaptable to the structuralgeometry and with system safety accessories,PERI UP provides an optimal solution here.

■Assembly versions

  The construction for both launchedtraveller versions - positioned over-head and underslung - is a modulardesign. Load-optimised width of influ-

ence on the two cross-frames formthe basis of each launched traveller.The total number of cross-frames is,in each case, a multiple of the pairs offrames.

The underslung launched traveller can also besupplemented with system formwork thus en-suring cost-effective use. For moving, the trav-eller and formwork are firstly pushed sideways,

then moved forward in a longitudinal directionand subsequently realigned.

Moving past the piers is possible without anyproblems after the working platform and slabformwork have been hydraulically folded in.

Assembly of the sub-assemblies in a position

behind the abutment is the rule regarding initialassembly. At the same time, passing the abut-ment wall is a factor that must be taken intoconsideration.

The formwork can be adapted at anytime to structural changes by means ofSLS spindles. Through this, VARIOKITframe construction formwork providesa very flexible and economical solutionfor all conventional load-bearingsystems and a broad range of buildinggeometries.

Main components of the raised form-work units:■ Steel Waler SRU 120■ SLS Spindles■ Coupling Components■ Bolts Ø 21 or 26 mm.

■Articulated connection

  For transferring normal and shearforces between two walers. Thisresults in an fully adequate jointbetween the SRU steel walers.

■Connecting accessories

  In the widened areas, accessories canbe bolted on. This means that spindlesand diagonals etc. can be optimallypositioned at the required points with-out having to take the couplings intoconsideration.

■Rigid connection

  All waler lengths can be combinedwithout any loss of load-bearingcapacity. The static values of the UK 70coupling correspond to the profile ofthe SRU waler. The connection withthe bolt ø 21 x 120 is without any

clearance.

cantilever traveller is a combination

of hollow box girders for carrying the

loads and VARIOKIT standard compo-

nents for the formation of formwork,

working scaffold and platforms.

A self-launching procedure by means ofintegrated moving hydraulics, completehydraulic adjustment and alignmentlead to accurate concrete results. Milli-metre deviations can be realized with

arched spans of up to 140 m.

■Time-consuming technical planning

  Balanced cantilever equipment andformwork normally experience largechanges in geometry and load whichresult from the varying heights of thesuperstructure towards the middlespan. Here, detailed technical plan-ning is indispensable. In addition, theconstantly changing load conditionsalong with the resulting loads anddeformations must be accurately cal-

culated.

Using the very latest 3D formwork plan-ning, PERI provides perfect implemen-tation plans and detailed processingwhich make on-site forming cost-effec-tive and efficient.

Changes to the external geometry of the webrequire variable constructions. VARIOKIT steelwalers and spindles provide here a continuousand safe load-carrying system.

The transfer of very large loads through accu-rate static calculations for each climbing cycleare precisely implemented.

The transfer of the loads into the pier is a veryimportant area. With the PERI UP scaffoldsystem, flexible and safe access to this area isrealised.

Furthermore, the inner sides of the bridge webalso require filler areas in both the width andheight. The VARIOKIT adjustment unit offerscontinuous adjusting possibilities.

Geometrically complicated details in the canti-lever area can be flexibly formed with theVARIOKIT construction kit. Moving the form-work takes place by means of a lightweightchain hoist.

The PERI VARIOKIT balanced cantilevertraveller consists of new main frameswhich allow compensation of the bridgelongitudinal and lateral inclinations to becarried out without packing timber.

Heavy-duty shoring has been in use

for many years in civil engineering.

As the first manufacturer, PERI has

redefined the application in the

course of developing the VARIOKIT

engineering construction kit.With this, the disadvantages of the twoconventional versions, load-bearingscaffold with steel profiles and specialscaffold tower systems are avoidedwithout additional application. Technicalprocessing of heavy-duty shoring appli-cations is very challenging. PERI makesthis possible using the latest technologyand flexibly used system parts. Here, theadvantages of a large range of compo-nents come to the fore. Always havingthe correct length facilitates a cost-ef-

fective planning process. Heights to 40m can be realised with VARIOKIT heavyshoring towers with a constant highload-bearing capacity up to max. 240 t.

4 assembly types are possible:■ Standard tower

  4 legs are assembled using the stand-ard connection parts. This results inan axial dimension of 2 x 2 m.

■ Tower with additional legs  In very highly-loaded areas, additional

legs can be placed with leg spacingsof 37.5 cm. With this, the permissibleload-bearing capacity is then doubled.

■ Shoring tower frames

  Is a combination of legs to “frames”with load-dependent and geometrical-ly necessary number of load-carryingcomponents.

■ Assembly as main beam frame

  Main beam frames, e.g. in front ofabutment walls, can be assembled up

to 10 m high as independent unitsonly with head restraint.

The RCS climbing system combines

the advantages of different climbing

systems in one modular system.

Depending on the requirements anduse, the system can be climbed withthe crane, or raised crane-independent-ly by means of mobile, hydraulic climb-ing devices. The RCS modular construc-tion system allows standard solutionsto be easily adapted to project-specificrequirements.

■RCS Climbing Protection Panel

  For completely enclosing floors underconstruction particularly those in highskeleton structures.

■RCS Formwork Scaffolding

  For rail-guided climbing of wall form-work.

The flexible anchoring of the RCS climb-ing system is the basis for numerousproject successes all around the world,also for many extraordinary structures.

The RCS climbing shoe guides the climbing railduring the moving procedure. The integratedclimbing pawl automatically engages the con-nection bolts of the climbing rail and securesthe unit at a distance of 50 cm. Already duringthe first concreting cycle, the upper part of theformwork scaffolding is atached to the foldablerunners of the climbing shoe.

high-rise building is climbed withPERI RCS just as safely and cost-ef-fectively as for bridge piers.

Climbing units are raised with alifting speed of 1 m/min.

The hydraulic cylinder, with 5 t liftingcapacity, can be easily positioned onthe climbing shoe and rail.

Hydraulic pumps and cylinders arequickly operational and easy totransport.

Advantages:■ The climbing rail is not climbed in

advance but, instead, is part of theload-bearing system.

■ Wall openings are easily bridged bythe climbing rail.

■ The mobile self-climbing equipmentcan be retrofitted at any time.

With the climbing rail, the scaffold unit

is always connected to the building bymeans of the climbing shoe for the en-tire climbing procedure. Moreover, it isimpossible for the RCS climbing unit to“drift” during strong winds. This meansthat climbing can take place safely andquickly at any time.

Both systems can also be climbed

hydraulically and are thus crane-in-

dependent.

With the mobile self-climbing devicesand hydraulic pumps, the cost of theself-climbing technology is reduced aswell as ensuring cost-effective imple-mentation for structures with lowerheights.
