Business cards are printed four or more up on a
sheet and then cut down on a guillotine. When
artwork is set up to the exact size of the card, we
cannot guillotine precisely on the edges without
leaving a white border.
For this reason, any colours that print to the edge of
the card must extend (bleed) past the edges of the
card. This bleed is then cut o when the cards
are guillotined.
Avoid frame borders when possible as they often
appear uneven. If you must have borders allow at
least 4mm inside the card.
The “ocial” size of a business card is 90 x 55mm.
We prefer 86 x 54mm to allow an easy fit into
standard business card holders.
This is the bleed.
Set up your
document with a
3mm bleed.
This is the finished
card and where
your business card
will be trimmed.

Text must not be closer than 3 to 4mm inside the edge of the card. Text too close to the edges does not look the best, pick a slightly smaller font size or style of font.
Avoid fine reverse text, keep it bold.
Always check for correct spelling for all aspects of your business card. Proof proof proof!
And don’t forget! Any colours that print to the edge of the card, must bleed past by 3mm for ideal printing.
