News & Notes from Pastor Tim
Dear Friends, We just completed a sermon series called, “Tough Questions.” It was a great series to ask, and answer, some “tough” questions of faith. The last sermon I had the privilege of preaching was called, “What Does My Church Really Want from Me? Here is a summary of the answer: Alleluia! wants you to help us live out our mission: To enable all to come, connect, and commit to Jesus. We do this best when we all engage in the following three things: 1) Come to worship regularly. I want to encourage you to make regular worship a priority in life. It is where the
Holy Spirit calls, gathers, and enlightens all of us. It is where we are fed and nourished with God’s Word and the Sacraments. If you’ve been away for a while, come back. If your kids haven’t been coming with you lately, get them in the car. When we are all at worship, we are a better church.
2) Connect though Christian Learning. There is no age at Alleluia! that cannot engage in Christian learning. While most of us know we have outstanding children’s and youth ministries, it’s helpful to be reminded that we have opportunities for adults of all ages to engage in learning. We have a new college-aged Connect Group this summer; we have established and forming young adults Connect Groups, and all kinds of other summer learning opportunities. We can’t outgrow Christian faith. Are you connected to a Connect Group?
3) Commit to Mission. We are a church of mission! At both the local and global levels, there are many ways for
you to engage in God’s mission in the world. Jesus reminds us in Scripture that He did not come to be served, but to serve; and calls us to serve others. I’m so proud to be a part of a church that walks the talk of Christian mission in the world.

We are pleased to announce that Wade Nyhuis has accepted a full-time staff position at Alleluia! He will be filling two roles. Half of his time will be in a new role as the Media & Production Director, and the other half will be an expanded role as Assistant Youth Ministry Director.
Wade will begin on June 15th. Please welcome him.

Thank you for a great Compassion Weekend! We added 17 new sponsorships to the 200 currently sponsored by Alleluia! families/individuals in Huanuco, Peru. That’s 17 children that will soon hear the great news that someone has chosen to sponsor them, write to them, and pray for them. You are a blessing in the life of a child and helping to lift them out of poverty in Jesus’ name!
Writing your sponsored child One of the most powerful, but sometimes most daunting privileges of being a sponsor, is writing to your child. What do you say? How do you communicate? Compassion recognizes this and offers various ways to connect with your child. From a short note on a postcard, to pre-printed stationary, to electronic communication. Click on this link for tips for letter writing. The best advice for letter writing—just do it! Write a quick, short
note to get started, or restarted. Knowing that you are thinking about them will go a long ways to letting your child know they are important and loved.
There are regular opportunities to volunteer with others from Alleluia! for a 3-hour shift at Loaves and Fishes in their food distribution. Email Alleluia! volunteer, Steve Smith, at [email protected] to express interest and to be put on the email list for invites to opportunities.
Alleluia! offers regular opportunities to serve during a 2½ hour shift at FMSC. All will take place during our adventures to the Island, the swamp, and the ranch! Come on along! Same time! Same place!
Check-in for summer will remain the same, but you’ll check-out in the REC Room!

ALLELUIA! DELIVERS SEEKING ADDITIONAL HELP
We provide meals for Alleluia! families with health needs such as recovering from surgery,
illness, or adjusting to life with a new baby. An e-mail is sent out with all the necessary
information about food preferences, delivery information, and
the dates meals are needed. We are currently coordinating meal
requests for several families at Alleluia!

Alleluia! Summer Connect Group Opportunities!
Connect Groups are a core focus of our Alleluia! Mission to “Enable All to Come, Connect, and Commit to Jesus.” We are committed to these small groups as a way to connect to God, to His Word, and to one another. Connect Groups are centered around Christ, and consist of 6-12 adults who meet to:
*Make authentic Christian Friendships *Read and discuss the Word of God and apply it to life *Pray together and for one another *Be serious about mission in their daily lives
Following are four opportunities for you to try out a Connect Group this Summer: Young Adult Sermon Study This summer is the start of a Young Adult Connect group! It will be led by Sydney Hertogs, and anyone ages 18-25 is invited. You do not need to be a member of Alleluia! Lutheran Church to attend. Meetings will be every Wednesday at 6pm in the Underground, and our first meeting is 6/21. Please contact Sydney Hertogs with any questions, [email protected]. Women’s Sermon Study Join Pastor Tammy this summer as she leads a group of women who are interested in diving deeper into the prior weekend’s sermon. This group will meet at church weekly from 9:30-10:30 on Thursdays starting June 8th. Going on vacation? No problem, you can come back the following week! Contact Pastor Tammy for more info or to sign up, [email protected]. Sunday 10:15 Sermon Study People who participate in this group typically attend 9am worship first, then walk down the hall to the Community Room, which is across from the main kitchen and next to the CLC. Participants discuss the week’s sermon using the questions available on the Alleluia! website. Go to www.alleluialutheran.org/adults/connect to get an idea what the discussion questions are like. Drop in anytime to try it out—there is no obligation or commitment to join! Midweek Sermon Study A new co-ed midweek Sermon Study will be starting this summer as well! It will be run much like the other groups above, however, the day and time are flexible at this time; the location will be at a local restaurant. More details coming soon! This summer, we will kick off a Connect Group for young adults! It will be led by Sydney Hertogs,

Alleluia! Young Adult Sermon Study
NEW Wednesday Night Connect Group Come on out and join us at the Plainfield Panera at Route 59 & 127th street! We will meet Wednesday, May 31st at 6:30pm. The current plan is to get together every other week for a sermon study, but this new group is open to suggestions. Contact Dan Burgess, [email protected] to RSVP so he knows to look for you! Couples with Young Children Meet and Greet If you are interested in this new group, come to the Well Cafe area at 10:00am on June 4th to learn more! We'll discuss what this new group could look like, and allow potential group members to meet one another.
