From the Membership Director

As you know, the popularity of our monthly member parties has increased tremendously over the years, and we are hopeful that many of you have had a chance to attend and enjoy some or all of them. Because these dinners have grown so large in size, we are limited when it comes to space availabilityand can only allow a certain amount of members to attend each month. In fact, unfortunately we have had to turn members away to some dinners because we reached maximum capacity. While we love that you want to show off this club event to your guests, I am sure that you would agree it is important that we are able to accommodate our members fi rst. With this being said, we have made the decision to limit our monthly dinners to members only. Guests will no longer be able to accompany members. While we know this might be disappointing to some, we trust that you understand the reasoning behind the decision. Having too many people wanting to attend the Club events is a great problem to have, and to us, it is a compliment to the success that these parties have brought to our membership. We are the only club in town that can boast about hosting a complimentary monthly party. So for now, it will be “members only”, but keep in mind, our incredible referral program is still alive and well. Wouldn’t gift certifi cates for referring your guest to become a member come in handy right about now? Thanks for your understanding and continued patronage of the Vinoy Club.

Carrying on the Legacy...It may be hard to believe, but the Vinoy Club has been around for 23 + years already. We have watched it grow and blossom along with some of its youngest members of the club. Many of our members have been here from the beginning, helping us mold the club into what it is today. We have been privileged to watch many of these young members mature and grow into fi ne young adults. So many of them have spent most of their lives in and around the Vinoy enjoying so many wonderful benefi ts of club life including Kid’s Camps; Easter Egg Hunts; Swim Teams; Bingo Nights; Kid’s Nights Out; Halloween Carnivals etc. They have built such fond memories that will last a lifetime. All too soon, they are off to college – where did the time go? In order to continue to enjoy the Vinoy and the “club” life, we want to offer them an opportunity to carry on that legacy and continue to enjoy all the great benefi ts that the Vinoy Club has to offer and to create some new memories to cherish. Currently, your child is considered a Vinoy Club Member until he/she turns 25 years old or gets married. Even if they go away to school/college, they are still on the membership and can utilize it when they come home to visit as long as they have a valid member ID card and you agree to keep them on the account. We want to be able to provide the bridge they need to cross over into their own legacy here at the Vinoy Club. Therefore, we are currently offering two types of Legacy Memberships for current member’s childrenonce they turn 25: The Tennis Social Legacy and the Golf LegacyMembership. These are affordable ways to continue their member-ship and enjoy the many benefi ts of the Vinoy Club with little or no initial fee and half-price dues while they move into the next phase of their lives. We are so pleased to see more and more second-generation members. Call the Vinoy Club offi ce for more informa-tion on how you can help your child continue the legacy…..

Born in the Navy Seals, TRX is a Suspension Training that will build your True Functional Strength, improve Flexibility, Balance and Core Stability; all we need in every day life. Whether we play sports; like tennis or golf, or just simply staying in the kitchen trying to reach for a pot on a high shelf, or suddenly picking up something in the garage, or at work at a bad angle… All of this requires Functional Strength. Think about your Core in the terms of a Foundation of a house. And remember that you are only as strong as your Core.

Let me explain how this works: As you train with TRX, you will always be in an unstable yet controllable environment. And what happens when you are in an unstable environment? More muscles get engaged, and more calories get burned. Besides you will always be changing your center of gravity, and that as a result will fi re up all your deep core muscula-ture and build your Functional Strength.

TRX IS ALL CORE ALL THE TIME. All the exercises you’ll perform are core work. And TRX training will give you all of this at once. Hey, how great is that!!! So like you see, it is a time effi cient work out!! Great for a busy life style. And you can take your TRX anywhere you go. Whether in a gym, your boat, hotel room, or a park, you can hook up your TRX anywhere.

Here is my message to you:You want to Exercise for life. So there are two main factors you want to consider. 1. Keep it safe. If exercising is new to you, take small steps. Do not throw yourself in the deep water right away, because you might get discouraged or worse get hurt, and might not want to come back again. If exercising is not new to you; Hey, go for it! Look for a challenge, but again keep it safe. 2 Make it fun. You have to fi nd a way to fall in love with Fitness. Whether it is TRX or something else, make sure you have fun with it. Like with everything in life, you have to love what you do, then you’ll be successful

Fitness Tips with Sheen (Tennis Pro)Use your legs. The legs are a vital component to your shot making ability. We as tennis players use our legs for stability, power, technique, and maneuverability. Unfortunately as a match progresses the strength and conditioning in your legs regress. So how do we address the regression? In order to limit your legs letting you down you need to push them. There are plenty of exercise and workout routines that can help you strengthen your quads, glutes, hamstrings, calves and even hip fl exor. The most common way to strength-en the legs is by hitting the weights. But that is not your only option. Dynamic movements that mimic motions you do on the court or in the gym. Cross training is another way to strengthen those legs and the rest of the body. If you keep your body guessing on activities other than tennis before you know it the results will show when you’re playing a match.

We had around 100 members and almost 60 raffl e prizes to give away. It was a fun night of dinner, dancing and prize winning. Thanks again to a lot of our local friends and merchants: Parkshore Grill, The Hangar, 400 Beach, Red Mesa, Moon Under Water, Harvey’s 4th Street Grill, Melting Pot, American Spirits, Wine Madonna, Fit Life Foods, Ferg’s Sports Bar, Gratzzi, Birchwood, Clearwater Marine Aquarium, and many, many more!
