The VCE VET Health program is drawn from a national training package and offers portable qualifications which are recognised throughout Australia. These qualifications provide students with the skills and knowledge required to pursue further training or work in an entry-level role within a range of health related areas.

What qualification/s will I receive?

The VCE VET Health program enables you to receive one or more of the following nationally recognised qualifications: • Program 1: Certificate II in Health Support Services

• Program 2: Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance

• Program 3: Certificate III in Health Services Assistance.

It is possible to combine Programs 2 and 3 for dual certification of both certificate III qualifications.

These qualifications are drawn from the HLT07 Health Training Package and are issued by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

What will I learn and what career opportunities will I have?

Program 1: Certificate II in Health Support Services

VCE credit: you will be eligible for up to three units at Units 1 and 2 level.VCAL credit: you will be eligible for up to three credits towards your VCAL – at the Foundation, Intermediate or Senior levels.

Description: Certificate II in Health Support Services is an entry level qualification which provides you with the knowledge and skills to support the effective functioning of health services. Completing this qualfication enables you to meet all training and workplace requirements that are pre-requisites to be a Health Support Worker and therefore allowing you to work in hospitals, aged care facilities, and in organisations where health support services are provided. Further training is required before you can fulfil direct care assistant functions.

Career opportunities: Completion of Certificate II in Health Support Services may lead to employment opportunities in positions such as domestic/food services assistant, pathology courier, porter or ward assistant. Further training is required before you can fulfil direct care assistant functions.

Program 2: Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance

VCE credit: you will be eligible for a minimum of two Units 3 and 4 sequences. If you receive a Units 3 and 4 sequence you will be eligible for an increment towards your ATAR (10% of the average of the primary four scaled studies).VCAL credit: you will be eligible for a minimum of four credits towards your VCAL – at the Foundation, Intermediate or Senior levels.

Description: Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance provides you with the knowledge and skills to assist allied health professionals (under direct supervision). Core units of competency in the certificate include: assist with an allied health program, recognised healthy body systems in a health care context and assist with client movement. By completing this qualification, you will gain the skills and knowledge to assist in providing a range of services to clients. These may include assisting clients to develop their abilities for improved daily living, undertake rehabilitation, speech therapy, podiatry or nutritional programs. You will work under the direction of other professional medical staff in organisations such as hospitals, aged care facilities, clinics or day centres.

Career opportunities: Completion of Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance may lead to employment opportunities in positions such as an allied health assistant in the areas of podiatry, physiotherapy, speech, pathology or occupational therapy. Through a higher education pathway, future employment outcomes may include nurse, physiotherapist, pharmacist, dietician or doctor.

Program 3: Certificate III in Health Services Assistance

VCE credit: you will be eligible for a minimum of two Units 3 and 4 sequences. If you receive a Units 3 and 4 sequence for Program 2 or Program 3, you will be eligible for an increment towards your ATAR (10% of the average of the primary four scaled studies).VCAL credit: you will be eligible for a minimum of four credits towards your VCAL – at the Foundation, Intermediate or Senior levels.

Description: Certificate III in Health Services Assistance provides you with the knowledge and skills to assist health professional staff with the care of clients (under direct supervision). Core units of competency in the certificate include: interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately, recognise healthy body systems in a health care context and comply with infection control policies and procedures. By completing this qualification, you will gain the skills and knowledge to assist in providing a range of services within a health care environment. The program offers electives to cater to specific work functions including Operating Theatre Technician and Nursing Assistant.

Career opportunities: Completion of Certificate III in Health Services Assistance may lead to employment opportunities in positions such as a nursing or ward assistant, theatre support or theatre technician. Through a higher education pathway, future employment outcomes may include nurse, physiotherapist, pharmacist, dietician or doctor.

Vocational Education: Further training undertaken in addition to the Certificate III qualifications may lead to employment outcomes including patient transport officer, Indigenous health worker, community rehabilitation worker or assistant roles in the areas of nutrition, pathology or dental.

Higher Education: Degree qualifications may lead to employment outcomes including: optometrist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, nurse, dietician, doctor.
