Vedic Maths - a simplified
,systemic and unified calculation
tool
High speed vedic maths is a super fastway of calculations. It has 16 jaw-
dropping Sutras or formulae which cansolve all known mathematical problems.Itis highly beneficial for school and collegestudents. It gives them an edge with logicthat will help them to shine in studies.Itwas founded by Swami Sri BhartiKrishna Tirath Ji.They are called Vedicas they are contained in Atharva Veda.

First Sutra
To perform subtraction sutra is all
from 9 and last from 10.For eg.
1000-357=643 . We subtract 3 & 5
from 9 & 7 from 10.
1 0 0 0 - 3 5 7
-9 -9 -10
=6 4 3

Second Sutra
To perform multiplication the sutra is
Vertically and crosswise. For eg. for nos.
near 10
In 8 x 7, 8 is 2 below 10 & 7 is 3 below 10.8 2
x I
7 3
5 6,subtract crosswise either8-3or 7-2 and multiply vertically i.e. 2x3.

Third Sutra
To perform multiplication the sutra isVertically and crosswise. For eg. fornos. near 100
88 x 98, 88 is 12 below 100 & 98 is 2below 100. 88 ; 12
x I
98 ; 2
86 24 , here subtracting
crosswise either 88-2 or 98-12=86 and12x2=24 i.e. multiply vertically . So88 x 98=8624

Fourth Sutra
To perform multiplication the sutra is
Vertically and crosswise .For eg.
for nos. just over 100
103 x 104 = 10712,answer is in two
parts i.e. 107 & 12,here 107 is just
103 + 4 (or 104 + 3) , and 12 is just
3 x 4.

Fifth Sutra
To square nos. that end in 5, Sutra is
By one more than the one before.
For eg. 752 = 5625 , here 752 means
75 x 75 and answer is in two parts:56
& 25. Last part is always 25 and first
part is first no. 7 multiplied by the no.
one more
i.e. 8,as such 7 x 8=
56.Hence 752 =56 25
7 x 8=56

Sixth Sutra
To multiply nos. where first figures
are same & last figures add upto 10.
For eg. 32 x 38=1216. Multiply 3 by 4
(the next no. up) & we get 12first part
of answer. We multiply last figures:2 x
8 =16.
2 x 8=16
3 2 x 3 8 = 12 16
3 x 4=12

Seventh Sutra
To multiply nos. in a simple & elegantpattern .For eg. 21 x 23=483. We useVERTICALLYANDCROSSWISE formula.
2 1
x2 3 x
4 8 3 , it has three steps , multiplyvertically on the left :2 x 2=4, first figure of
answer. ::Multiply crosswise & add:2 x 3 + 1x 2=8, middle figure of answer. Multiplyvertically on the right
: 1 x 3=3, last figure of answer.

Eighth Sutra
To multiply a number by 11, if the no.
is two digit we put total of the two
figures between them. For eg.
26 x 11=286.
For a three digit no. like 234 x 11=
2574,we put 2 & 4 at the ends ,then
we add first pair 2 + 3 = 5, and weadd last pair 3 + 4 = 7.

Ninth Sutra
To divide a two digit no. by 9, for eg.
23 / 9 =2 remainder5. The first
figure of 23 is 2 and this is the
answer. Remainder is just 2 & 3
added up.

Benefits of Vedic Maths
It is a 10 to 15 times faster way to
calculate as compared to normal
maths.
It sharpens our mind and increases
mental agility & intelligence.
It improves academic performance.
It improves memory and boosts selfconfidence.
