SITE ACCEPTANCE TEST
III) Test of Automatic Laser Safety (ALS) Feature of optical Interface.
Test Description:
This test is performed to check the laser safety feature is functional in a node. When the laser safety
feature is switched ON, in an event of optical receive signal failure the optical transmit signal is switched OFF thereby
protecting the laser from undesirable operation.
Test Equipment
Power meter, Local Craft Terminal (LCT), Fiber optic patch cord
Test Procedure:
Connect the power meter on the STM optical unit by using optical patch cords and transmit the respectivelySTM signal.
Using the LCT establish connection on the SDH node and monitor for any current alarms. Set the Automatic Laser Shutdown (ALS) to ON using the LCT software. Now, disconnect the receive optical path cord on the STM optical unit. This disconnection will be enable the ALS
feature on the node.
Record the result. Repeat the above procedure for other cards/Ports al
