Managing the Public Access Computer (PAC) to the Internet

l Large libraries retain their own or contracted IT services to manage the PACs.

l Small libraries with no full-time systems librarian, troubleshooting computer problems is left to the head of circulation with the assistance of reference staff and sporadic visits from a local computer consultant or volunteer.

(ALA) compiles news reports of library funding impacts nationwide

Projected and announced library funding cuts have topped $111.2 million in the past 18 months (since April 2004) and include:

l The closure of two library branches in Erie County, Penn., in May 2004. Four other branches remain threatened.

l The elimination of all public library service in Salinas, Calif., in December 2004.

l The threatened closure of all 52 libraries in Buffalo & Erie County, N.Y. in December 2004. At the last moment, the Erie County legislature agreed to share part of a one-cent sales tax increase with municipalities -keeping branches open, but still reducing the library's budget by $2.5 million.

l Reduced operating hours at all public libraries in Spokane, Wash. The Spokane Public Library announced in November 2004 that it would lose $1 million in spending, eliminating 15 jobs and reducing operating hours.

VendaPrint

l The VendaPrint Printing Management softwareoperates as a true stand alone print management station. Installation and configuration are so simple, anyone on your staff can do it.

l Patrons will appreciate VendaPrint’s easy to navigate print management screen which is powered by an intelligent print spooling engine that captures and tracks every print job.

l Patrons can choose to print or delete any of their print jobs without assistance from library staff.

VendaPrint II

VendaPrint II l VendaPrint II version has a green and a red LED in the

lower left portion of the main screen area. These are communication status indicators for vending control devices such as card readers and coin-ops.

l VendaPrint II communicates to the vending control devices using the pulse adapter connected to PC serial port and the universal harness connected to the vending control device.

l This version will ensure that the payment for the print jobs are made first before releasing the print jobs to the selected printer/multi-functional copy/print machine.

VendaPrint Licensing

l In an effort to reduce software piracy and ensure that VENDAPIN customers receive the product quality they expect, every VendaPrint license is bundled with parallel dongle.

l The parallel dongle licensing scheme will allow the installer to install VendaPrint and get it up running in few minutes without dealing with the online registration procedures.
