🔆 Summertime and the living is easy. Fish are jumping and the

cotton is high… 🎶 Okay, so I can’t carry a tune in a burlap sack. But,

I can tell it’s hot outside and that makes me think about cool things to do on the inside. Speaking of cool and inside, our Shrine Club stated meeting will be held at the club building, 91 S. Auburn Road, Venice on July 21st. A social hour begins at 11:00 AM (and yes, the bar will be open). Lunch will be served and the meeting will begin at 12:00 PM. Many updates and improvements to our building have been made by our tireless building committee. If you haven’t been by in a while you’ll want to come see how nice it is. And, if you’ve been by recently, come on out anyway! Efficient air conditioning and new fans means it’s cool inside. So don your fez and club shirt and join your cool fellow Nobles for fun, food and fellowship on the third Tuesday. Sincerely and Fraternally,

Bob Bob Collins, Secretary

Greetings fellow Kops and Nobles of the Venice Shrine

Time to Mow the Lawn

Whether you enjoy mowing the lawn all summer or not, this chore that we’ve been doing since we were kids can do a lot of damage. So, Safety first, even for this mundane chore.

Here’s some staggering facts: 250,000 injuries are caused by lawn mower accidents each year.

80,000 of these injuries require emergency room visit. 70 people die from a lawn mower accident.

A message from our Hospitals: – Many lawn mower-related injuries can be prevented by following some safety guidelines: *Children under 6 years of age should be kept indoors during mowing. *Make sure children are a safe distance away from the area you plan. *Keep a close eye on children when a lawn mower is in use. *Never allow children to play with the mower, even when it is turned off. *Children should be at least 12 years old before operating a walk-behind lawn mower and at least 16 years old to operate a riding mower. *Never allow children or any other passengers on a riding lawn mower. *Use a mower with a control that stops it from moving forward if the handle is released. * Clear your lawn of items such as nails, sticks, rocks, toys, sports entertainment, dog bones, wire and equipment parts. *Never fill the tank with gasoline when the lawn mower is on or hot. *Do not mow in reverse unless absolutely necessary

*Always shut off the engine before leaving the mower unattended. Shriners International has an animated educational video about lawn mower safety, available for viewing on the YouTube channel: (Youtube.com, Shriners hospitals, lawn mower safety). Share with your kids and grandkids. In the video, Fezzy, shares tips on lawn mower safety in a fun and engaging film for all ages. Should an injury occur, the physicians and staff of Shriners Hospitals are here to help. For patient referral information, please call 800-237-5055.

Salutations!

Salutations or greetings! - A Potentate or Past Potentate is always addressed as “Illustrious Sir,” while an Imperial Officer and all past Imperial Officers are addressed as “Imperial Sir.” Members of the Temple, including the elected Divan members who are not Past Potentates, are addressed by the title of their office or “Noble”. The appropriate salutation among Shriners is “Es selamu aleikun” (pronounced AH sel-AMH uh-LAKE-um). Which means “Peace be on you.” The proper response is “Aleikum es salam.” (pronounced uh-LAKE-um AH sel-AHM). Which means “On you be the peace.” Fezzes & Pins - Nobles should wear their fezzes at stated meetings, ceremonials, Shrine parades, special Shrine events and other Shrine-related activities. The Fez is not a bulletin board or advertising space. The only pin permitted on the fez is the one to hold the tassel in place. The fez shall be worn in its proper shape, without crushing, creasing, or alteration. As a Shriner, you are asked to not wear your fez in any company of place where you would decline to introduce your mother, wife, sister, or daughter. A Shriners lapel pin may be worn on the left lapel of a suitcoat or jacket and is appropriate to be worn when a Noble wishes to represent his fraternity.
