Newcastle City Hall Newcastle Museum

Newcastle Museum was originally established in 1988 as part of a major Bicentennial project for Newcastle. The museum is now located in the Honeysuckle Railway Workshops - three National Trust listed buildings dating back to 1887 and demonstrating unique classic railway architecture.

Newcastle Museum has various unique spaces available to hire for corporate functions and events. The McIntyre Theatrette is equipped with a large screen, high-quality digital projector and audio sound equipment. The theatre is available for hire day and night and is perfect for corporate presentations, lectures and workshops.

Built to link the BHP and Supernova buildings, the Link Gallery features a beautiful pipe organ and historic Buck locomotive. With detailed brickwork and arched windows as a backdrop, this light and spacious room is perfect for cocktail functions, formal dinner parties, corporate events and product launches. The BHP Gallery is a unique location as you will be surrounded by the history of steel making in the region. The lower area of the gallery is available for venue hire and is fantastic for small to medium sized events.

Opened in 1929, Newcastle City Hall is one of Newcastle's most unique and prestigious venues. Commissioned to be built by newly elected Mayor Morris Light in 1925 and designed by acclaimed architect Henry White, the newly built Newcastle City Hall became home to an amalgamation of eleven Municipal Councils into a newly formed Newcastle City Council.

City Hall was converted to a function centre in the 1980s and striking murals by John Olsen and John Montifiore now adorn the entry and interior of the Concert Hall.

Newcastle City Hall's Concert Hall has been acclaimed as one of the finest auditoriums in Australia. It features excellent natural acoustics, air conditioning, superior lighting and comfortable lower and upper gallery seating. The Concert Hall is regularly used for conferences, exhibitions and dinners.

City Hall offers a total of six function rooms and provides a great option for large conference groups requiring a plenary room, breakouts, secretariat and exhibition. The venue can be combined with Civic Theatre and the adjacent Wheeler Place to cater for large scale conventions.

Fort Scratchley

The 1450 seat main auditorium of Civic Theatre Newcastle combines the grandeur and atmosphere of the great picture palaces, with the comfort, technology and professional capability of today.

The main auditorium can also be used in intimate mode, creating a smaller more intimate space with less capacity. The Promenade Room is used extensively for meetings and pre-show gatherings.

Adjoining the balcony overlooking Wheeler Place, this space is ideal for approximately 80 people cocktail-style. The Commonwealth Promenade Foyer is used regularly for cocktail parties, welcome receptions and product launches. Combined with the adjacent Promenade Room and Balcony, this space can cater for up to 300 people cocktail style or 120 seated banquet style.

Fort Scratchley is situated at the eastern end of Newcastle on the site where convicts created Australia’s first coal mine in 1801. To protect the coastline in the event of an attack, Fort Battlesticks was constructed and the site became known as Signal Hill.

Today the Fort operates as a museum and provides a unique venue for business events. The Fort Scratchley Function Centre is a contemporary centre which boasts a light filled space with spectacular views over the ocean ideal for business presentations, workshops, cocktail parties and corporate events.

The Barracks are made up of two adjoining rooms, Barracks North and South, which open onto a small balcony which offers brilliant foreshore and harbour aspects.

The Callaghan Campus of the University of Newcastle is located twelve kilometres from the Newcastle City Centre and comprises high-tech laboratories and teaching facilities across 140 hectares of bushland. You’re welcome at Maitland Gaol, a former maximum security prison with a gruesome history spanning over 150 years. This heritage listed site is home to a variety of unique spaces tucked away within its great walls. Since its closure in 1998, the gaol has made an impressive transformation into a prominent tourist attraction without compromising its authenticity. The gaol offers a genuine glimpse into the history of one of the state’s most notorious prisons and an unparalleled experience that your delegates are guaranteed to remember.

The Marquee is located in the heart of the Gaol overlooking the exercise field and in close proximity to amenities and the commercial kitchen, which is also available to hire for functions. The space is a blank canvas and the possibilities for its use are only limited by your imagination.

The historic former cell blocks are the perfect setting for a dining experience like no other and one that no prisoner could have ever dreamed would be served within the solid walls. The cell blocks are matchless and offer an exclusive point of difference for your next corporate dinner.

Located opposite the heavy metal gated entrance, the Chapel is situated in the first building prisoners saw upon arrival. The Chapel is bathed in natural light with raked, cedar lined timber ceilings and majestic painted windows, an ideal space for medium sized presentations, exhibitions, conferences and functions.

The auditorium offers an ideal space for large scale presentations, exhibitions and conferences. Offering a range of room layouts and capacities, the hire of the Auditorium includes fixed audio visual. The room is air conditioned, features tiered seating in addition to the floor space which allows for various setup styles.

The exercise field provides an open space which once held a building for female inmates, prison farm inmates and the hospital together with the Cookhouse. The foundations of these buildings have been laid out within what is now a lush grassed area. The area is perfect for team building activities, an alfresco lunch, a portable marquee suitable for a distinctive gala dinner or music event.

The Lucky’s talented head chef, Jordan Silcock, creates mouth-watering American BBQ style canape and banquet menus that will surely impress while the dedicated functions team will be happy to work closely with you to tailor an event and turn your vision into a reality.

The Victorian-style Champagne Room features vintage velvet lounges, Persian rugs and crystal chandeliers creating a luxurious space. A specific wine list complements the room including a number of Sparkling Wines and Champagne from around the world. This enchanting room is perfect for an intimate cocktail party.

The Drum Bar is an industrial-style space showcasing a custom designed drum kit chandelier. A mixture of booths and bar stools furnish this space, making this area ideal for a cocktail event.

The Courtyard is the most unique element of the historic hotel. It features bare brick walls, a flourishing vertical garden, recycled timbers and stunning decor. At night the internal courtyard comes alive with luminous projections splashed across three storeys of exposed brick work.
