Mawn is the Welsh word for the first breath of the morning. For most people, that first inhalation is spent in a dream state; time spent in anticipation and lost in imagination. The titular Berlin band Mawn inspires a similar effect by blending downtempo melodies with soulful vocals and bold trip hop beats. Audiences from New York to Berlin have become enthralled by the duo's seductive lyrics and atmospheric tunes on tracks like "Symmetry," "Barren Fruits," and "Suburbio." The combination of Sao Paolo-born vocalist and guitarist Sabine Holler's smokey voice and distorted guitar riffs captures the room, as German instrumentalist Bjorn Eichhorn

creates a Portishead-esque vibe on the boards. The act has been carefully crafted and perfected in the past year alone, as Holler and Eichhorn performed in both Europe and the United States, released their first EP "Um," and began work on their second album. Whatever their future holds, this reviewer will be sure to catch their next hypnotic concert.

The duo met at a course for Music Production & Sound Engineering in Berlin and immediately formed a mutual connection. Through music they create their own universe, in spite of their completely different backgrounds. Holler, coming from the grungy underground scene of Brazil, writes lyrics with metaphors referring to nature and body. She shapes her emotions in the form of music, with the urge to share her experiences with the listener. Holler’s turbulent background, moving from place to place all her life, stands as a contrast to Eichhorn’s stable German upbringing in the small town of St. Peter Ording. Eichhorn looks at their productions as a micro-cosmos, with great attention to detail. This technique brings their conventional pop elements into new spotlights. After playing on the streets of Berlin and ironically getting the attention of a Brazilian television show, in January 2015, Mawn released their debut EP “Um”. The release of their album followed an East-Coast US tour – Including different venues in Detroit, Philadelphia and New York City.

Their most recent work, Dois, was released on January 2016, and it’s been well received by a growing fan base.
