How to use the Veracity Riflescope

Eyepiece FocusingThe eyepiece can be focused so that the reticleappears sharp and black. Follow this procedure toquickly adjust the focus:

1. Point the scope at the sky or a plain wall and takea quick glance through the scope. If the reticleappears sharp and black, no further adjustment isnecessary.

2. If the reticle does not appear sharp and black, takequick glances through the scope while rotating thefocus ring until the reticle pattern is sharp andblack.

NOTE: Do not look through the eyepiece as youturn the focus ring. Your eyes will adjust to theout-of-focus condition.

Parallax/Focus Adjustment Parallax is the apparent movement of the reticle inrelation to the target when the eye is not directly inline behind the center of the scope. Images fromdifferent distances focus in front of or behind thescope’s reticle. Parallax is more noticeable withhigher magnification scopes.

To use the parallax/focus adjustment, rotate the knobon the left side of the adjustment turret until thenumeral corresponding to the known target distancelines up with the reference mark. If the distance isunknown, rotate the adjustment knob until thetarget image is sharply focused.

When the scope is set parallax-free for the distanceyou are viewing, you should be able to move youreye side-to-side or up and down without seeing thereticle move appreciably in relation to the target.

Windage/Elevation Adjustment for Multi-TurnTarget Knobs with Zero Click Stop– Applies to 4-20x and 5-25x models –The Multi-Turn Target windage and elevation knobsare designed for precise adjustment and feature ZeroClick Stop. The click value for each knob is indicatedon the dial. For shooting at extreme distances, theelevation knob offers up to 15 MOA/rotation withmultiple revolutions of adjustment.

Use the following procedure when sighting-in if youneed additional downward point of impact adjustmentpast the Zero Click Stop:

1) Turn the elevation adjustment knob clockwise to “0”.

2) Use the 2mm hex wrenchsupplied with the scopeto loosen the 2 setscrews on the elevationadjustment knob locatedjust under the top of theknob.

3) Pull up slightly on theadjustment knob to thesecond white hash markon the turret. Turn theknob clockwise slightlymore (2-5 more clicks)than the number of MOAneeded to achieve zero.

4) Once the elevationadjustment is complete, loosen the two set screwsand reset the knob to “0”.With the screws loose, push down firmly on theknob until it is fullyseated on the turret base, turn the knob clockwiseuntil “0” lines up withreference mark and knob stops turning, and thenretighten the set screws.

NOTE: When retightening set screws on elevationknob, maintain pressure on the top of cap to ensureproper seating of adjustment dial.

NOTE: Windage adjustments aremade with a multi-directionadjustment knob. Zero is set withan indexing mark to allow for leftand right adjustments. Failure tozero at the index mark mayresult in limited windageadjustment.

Windage/Elevation Adjustment for Low ProfileKnobs– Applies to 2-10x and 3-15x models –The low profile adjustment knobs feature a fingeradjustment for both windage and elevation. Onceyou have successfully zeroed your scope, you can setthe zero on your dials with these simple steps:

1) With turret caps removed, grip knob top firmly andkeep knob from turning.

2) Put pen or other smallobject into the small holelocated on the dial, 180°from “0”.

3) Keeping firm grip on theknob, use the pen to turnthe dial back to zero, lining up the numberzero with the whiteindicator dot. Only thenumbered dial shouldmove – do not allow theentire knob to move or else you will alter your windage and elevation zero settings.

NOTE: You do not have to set the zero on your dialsfor your scope to function properly. Doing so cangive you peace of mind that your zero is set, plus youcan easily confirm if it has moved at any time, butthis step is optional.

Mounting the ScopeVeracity riflescopes require 30mm rings. Werecommend using high-quality rings and bases, like the Burris Signature Rings or Xtreme TacticalRings and Xtreme Tactical Bases. Quality componentsensure that your scope will remain safely andsecurely mounted, and will provide maximumaccuracy. Use care when mounting your scope asdamage can be caused by improper mounting.

Care & MaintenanceVeracity riflescopes are fully waterproof andfogproof. In the event that the lenses are subjectedto dust, dirt or mud, follow these steps to clean andprotect the lens surface. Failure to remove grit beforefinal cleaning is sure to damage lens coatings.

Coarse dirt/debris must be removed from the lenssurface. The most convenient way to clean a lenssurface is to use a Lens Pen. Position the scope soparticles will fall away from the lens, and then usethe Lens Pen or soft brush to gently whisk awaythe debris while blowing on the lens to dislodgethe particles. For heavy dirt, like dried mud, use aspray of clean water or lens cleaning fluid toremove the dirt.

Your Burris riflescope will provide reliableperformance given reasonable care and treatment. All moving assemblies are permanently lubricated.Only occasional cleaning of the outside of thescope and the exterior lenses is required. Neverdisassemble your scope Disassembly by anyoneother than our factory will void the warranty. If youhave any other problems with your riflescope, return it to the Burris factory for repair.

Veracity Riflescope Reticles

Veracity riflescope reticles help you overcome two ofthe biggest challenges when shooting long-distance:determining holdover at distance and hold-off forwind drift. This technology is based on the popularBurris Ballistic Plex® reticle that redefined trajectorycompensation. This section will explain how to usethe reticles found in Veracity riflescopes.

Front Focal Plane (FFP)All Veracity riflescopes utilize a Front Focal Planesystem. Front Focal Plane systems (also called FirstFocal Plane systems) place the reticle in front of theerector assembly or zoom mechanism. This allows thereticle to change size as magnification is adjusted. InFFP systems, when magnification is increased, thereticle size grows; as magnification is lowered, thereticle size shrinks. Because the reticle is changingwith magnification, the measurements of the reticleare always correct and are proportional to the target,no matter what power setting you may be on.This also means that the trajectory compensationtechnology is correct in Veracity riflescopes at anymagnification.

Trajectory CompensationTo better determine holdover and compensate forbullet drop, the patented Burris design incorporateshash marks on the lower vertical crosshair that arecalibrated to provide dead-on aiming from 100 yardsto 600 yards (200 – 700 yards for the Varmint reticle)for many of the most common hunting cartridges.Examples of the actual bullet path for many of themost popular cartridges are available for downloadon our website at www.burrisoptics.com.

For calculating wind drift, the Ballistic Plex E1 FFP andBallistic Plex E1 FFP Varmint reticles have a series ofsmall cascading dots placed to the left and right ofthe reticle. These dots represent the effect of a 10 mphcrosswind for most big game hunting cartridges. For a5 mph crosswind, simply hold into the wind half thedistance to the dot. If the crosswind is 20 mph, simplyhold into the wind twice the distance from the centerpost to the dot. If you know the distance to yourtarget and the speed of the wind, you can quicklydetermine the correct aiming point to compensatefor both bullet drop and drift.

With access to a ballistics program, you can easilydevelop your own charts for custom handloads. Byshooting at known distances (i.e. 100, 200, 300, 400,500 and 600 yds.), you can determine the bullet dropthat corresponds to each ballistic line for your cartridge.

Practice Makes PerfectVeracity reticle designs are much more accurate thanguessing holdover or hold-off. They can also be fasterand more reassuring to most shooters than usingtarget-type adjustments. The nature of ballistics issuch that everything is theoretical and if any onevariable changes, (altitude, temperature, barometricpressure, humidity, bullet design, barrel length, chamber fit, seating depth, etc.) so does the ballisticperformance. For maximum accuracy, practice at longranges under similar conditions to those which youwill experience in the field.

Technical TipFor maximum accuracy at long ranges, instead ofsighting in at 100 yards using the center of the reticle, sight in at a longer range such as 400 yards using the400-yard ballistic line. This will decrease the amountof long-range error that can occur under variousenvironmental conditions, or when slightly underestimating point-of-impact at shorter ranges.

Shoot ResponsiblyLong-range shooting is extremely challenging andcan be very rewarding. But along with it comestremendous responsibility, especially when hunting. To ensure you take ethical shots at longer ranges, itis essential to know the yardage to an animal and yourwind conditions. For these reasons, we stronglyencourage that you practice to determine your ownshooting capabilities and do not shoot beyond themin the field.

Ballistic Plex E1 FFP Varmint ReticleFront Focal Plane Reticle

The Ballistic Plex E1 FFP Varmint reticle is calculated inMOA (minute of angle) measurements. The Varmintreticle provides a very precise platform for measuringdistance and determining target size by providingMOA tick marks across the horizontal crosshair andacross the upper portion of the vertical crosshair.Trajectory compensation has been calculated out to 700yards with wind dots representing a 10 MPH windadjustment at every hash mark below the verticalcenter point. The bolder crosshairs make this reticlehighly usable in the FFP design, ensuring that thereticle is still visible on low power. The FFP also allowsthe trajectory compensation technology to be used atany magnification, a nice advantage over Rear FocalPlane reticle designs that can only provide trajectorycompensation on high power.
