Triggering Media Analytics Processes in MediaCentral | Cloud UX

By default assets are created by ingests, watch folder imports, or import processes in Asset Management. If the PerformAzureMediaAnalytics task is enabled, these actions automatically trigger the Media Analytics process. Independent from the activation status of the task, you can trigger Media Analytics processes manually for video assets in the MediaCentral Cloud UX Browse and Search app. Note the following:

• You need to be member of a user group that has the privileges to start the Media Analytics process.

• If the asset has already a browse proxy and therefore the Media Analytics process was already performed, the original analytics results will be overwritten by the new Media Analytics process.

• If the asset does not have a proxy yet, the Media Analytics process first triggers the proxy creation and then the analytics actions.

To trigger a Media Analytics process:

1. In the Browse or Search app’s Results area, select a video asset.

2. Do one of the following:

t Right-click and select Actions > Media Analytics.

t (Browse app only) Click the menu button and select Actions > Media Analytics.

The Media Analytics dialog box opens.

3. (Optional) Provide a main title for the process. This title is used as process name and helps you to identify the process in the Process app.

4. Click Ok.

The Media Analytics process is started. You can view the progress in the Process app.

If the process was successful, you can search for analytics results in the Search app and display time-based analytics metadata in the Markers tab.

Monitoring Media Analytics Processes in the Process App

Processes are displayed in the Process List, which is updated automatically upon process changes, matching the filter criteria. By default, processes of all process types currently being used are shown as a list in the Process app that is sorted by the Name column in alphabetical order. You can modify the Process List layout and process display to show only Media Analytics processes, as described in the following procedure.

Note that filters are cumulative. For example, if you apply a group-based filter and then life cycle-based filter, the life cycle-based filter is applied to the already filtered Processes List. Each filter is saved as a user setting and persists from one session to another.

To monitor Media Analytics processes:

1. Click the Process button on the Fast Bar.

2. To show only Media Analytics processes:

a. Click the Groups selector in the Quick Filter bar.

b. In the Process Groups window, expand the All Groups entry, click the Deselect All button, and select the Media Analytics and Media Analytics Job check boxes.

c. Click anywhere outside the window to apply the filter.

The Process List shows you only Media Analytics and Media Analytics Job processes.

4. (Optional) To apply filters:

a. To apply a creation-time filter, click the Creation Time list and select one of the time ranges “last hour,” “last 12 hours,” “today,” or “this week,” (the default value “any” disables creation time filtering).

b. To apply a life-cycle filter (Pending, Running, Finished, Error), do one of the following:

t To hide processes of a specific life cycle, click a blue life-cycle button so it turns gray.

t To show processes of a specific life cycle, click a gray life-cycle button so it turns blue.

5. Monitor the displayed processes, for example regarding progress and state changes. If an error occurs, a message is shown in the Message column.

6. (Optional) While you monitor the displayed processes, click the Refresh button to manually reload processes in the Process List.

Searching for Media Analytics Results in the Search App

Use the Search app to search for Media Analytics results and quickly access detail information. Starting with version 2018.9, you can use “time-based metadata” search options in the Search app. Note the following time-based metadata search features and limitations:

• The search engine returns results not only based on text-based metadata related to the entire asset (properties) but also related to the annotation of segments in strata (time-based metadata).

• Time-based metadata search is limited to text fields in strata and does not include time-based fields such as date and timecode.

Working with the Avid | AI Media Analytics Features

22

• If you use more than one phrase and combine them with the “all phrases” matching option, an asset is only classified as a hit if all phrases are found in the same segment or all are found in theasset properties.

• After performing a search, the Results area in List view shows an additional Hits column, which displays the number segments in the asset. This number is related to all annotated segments and does not indicate the number of segments matching the search phrase(s).

• After running a search, the Asset Editor includes a custom tab called Hits, which provides detailed information on the matches returned through a phrase search. For time-based metadata results, a separate tab for each stratum that contains annotated segments is displayed under the Hits tab.

• For each stratum, all annotated segments with start and end timecode and text are listed. Within each stratum, you can add a filter to locate the desired segment. When you double-click a segment, the Asset Editor’s Media Viewer displays the segment’s start frame.

To search for Media Analytics results:

1. Click the Search button on the Fast Bar.

2. Enter a value in the Add Phrase field and press Enter (Windows) or Return (Mac).

A new pill is added to the Search header and the search is executed immediately. Additionally, the Results area is populated with the found assets. The Hits column displays the number of annotated segments in the asset.

3. (Optional) Enter an additional phrase in the new search pill as desired to narrow the search.

If entering more than one phrase, you can optionally customize the Matching options: Select “all phrases” or “any phrases”.

4. (Optional) Define a filter to create a more focused search:

a. Click the Add Filter field and select a filter from the menu.

After selecting a filter, the field is added to the Search header and a modifier appears to the right.

b. Select a qualifier from the menu.

c. Enter one or more values to the qualifier as required.

d. Press Enter (Windows) or Return (Mac) to complete the filter creation process.

The following table shows the specific Media Analytics filters and supported qualifiers:

To display and review Media Analytics results:

1. Double-click an asset in the Results area.

The asset loads into the Source Monitor of the Asset Editor. To show the time-based metadata results, for each stratum that contains annotated segments a separate tab is displayed under the Hits tab. Strata that do not contain annotated segments are not shown.

2. Click a tab to show the annotated segments of the stratum. Since the Asset Editor does not provide a horizontal scroll bar, you might need to enlarge the Asset Editor width to the left to show all available strata tabs.

3. As the segment list in a stratum can be lengthy, you can add a filter to expedite the process of locating the desired segment: Click the filter field and start typing text.

As you type, a “contains” search is conducted in the segments’ annotation. If you type more than word, a separate “contains” search for each word is conducted.

4. To access a specific position in the video, double-click a segment.

The position indicator is set to the segment’s start in the Media Viewer Timeline and the Media Viewer displays the segment’s start frame.

n Unlike when working in the Markers tab, the Media Viewer timeline does not show alternating colors for segments of a stratum selected in the Hits tab. To show segments on the Media Viewer timeline, go to the Markers tab and select the same stratum that is open in the Hits tab from the stratum selector.

Consider that if you have selected a stratum in the Markers tab and select another stratum in the Hits tab, the segmentation on the Media Viewer timeline refers to the Markers tab and does not reflect the segmentation of the stratum in the Hits tab.

Displaying Media Analytics Results in the Markers Tab

The results of the Media Analytics process are stored in the Asset Management database and can be displayed in the Markers tab. The results of each supported feature are shown on a separate stratum. Unlike the Hits tab, the Markers tab does not consider if a stratum is annotated but always provides access to all strata defined for the asset type.

To display Media Analytics results:

1. Double-click an asset in the Browse or Search app.

2. Click the Asset Editor’s Markers tab.

3. Click the stratum selector and select the stratum for which you want to show segments.

The Markers tab displays the segments for the selected stratum, as shown in the following example for the Speech To Text stratum.

25

Depending on the results of the analysis, segments on the stratum can be sequential, show gaps between them, or are “overlapping segments.”

- If the Media Analytics analysis results in sequential segments — the Out mark and In mark of adjacent segments are always adjacent frames — for the stratum, the Media Viewer timeline shows alternating orange and blue segments, as shown in the following example for the stratum Speech To Text.

- If the Media Analytics analysis results in segments with gaps, the Media Viewer timeline shows the base green timeline color between the alternating orange and blue segments, as shown in the following example for the stratum Face Detection.

- If the Media Analytics analysis results in overlapping segments — segments that share one or more frames in the stratum — the Media Viewer timeline shows alternating orange and blue sections that represent the individual segments. Overlapping segments are represented by a darker shade of the same color as shown in the following example for the stratum Annotations.

4. To navigate between the segments, do one of the following:

t Select a segment in the Markers tab.

The position indicator is set to the segment’s start in the Media Viewer Timeline and the Media Viewer displays the segment’s start frame.

t Select a segment in the Media Viewer Timeline.

26

The segment is also selected in the Markers tab. Note that this synchronization is not valid for overlapping segments.

t Play the video in the Media Viewer.

While the video is playing, the position indicator moves through the timeline and the corresponding segment is selected in the Markers tab. Note that this synchronization is not valid for overlapping segments.
