It is a great pleasure to welcome the Alumni because they are a vital part of the total college community along with the faculty, the staff and the students. We at Bridge­water feel that a truly great college must have a deep sense of college community in this age of fragmentation and overspecialization causing many individuals to feel lonely and alienated by the impersonal forces about them.

We are, of course, proud of the expanding physical facilities of the college -- the new Student Union, for which ground wiU be broken this spring, the two new large dor­mitories on Great Hill and the greatly enlarged physical education facilities which will be available, and the great new library for which preliminary plan money will be spent this academic year, and a number of other building developments in the not too distant future. We deeply believe that it will have beeri too great a cost if our expansion is at the expense of warm personal concern which has been historically traditional at-your Alma Mater. We feel that every member of the college community is a person, not an IBM card, who should not be treated as a statistic .

So, we welcome yqu with the thought that you are important, respected and, yes, foved members of the Bridgewater State College family and dedicated to the proposition that this college community warmth and affection will always be the outstanding mark of the Bridgewater State College, be it ever so large in numbers or imposing in physical facilities.
