Survivors and Dependents (CH 35) Checklist

Who is Eligible?SPOUSES

• May begin to use benefits immediately

• Can use benefits while military member is on activeduty or after separation

• Are not eligible for the monthly housing allowancewhile military members are on active duty

• Can use benefits for up to 15 years after separationfrom active duty

CHILDREN AND DEPENDENTS

• Can only begin to use benefits after the militarymember has completed a minimum of 10 years ofservice

• Can use benefits while military member is on activeduty or after separation

• May be eligible for the monthly housing allowanceeven while military member is on active duty

• Are not subject to the 15-year rule, but must not usebenefits before turning 26 years old

• Must have secured secondary school diploma,equivalent certificate, or be at least 18 years old to usebenefits

Apply and receive your student ID number

• Be sure to be in touch with yourenrollment counselor to periodicallycheck on the status of your application

• Ensure that your military family discounthas been applied to your account

Send official transcripts and documents

Send official copies of your JST or CCAF

Complete forms through Vets.gov

• Click Educational Benefits

• Scroll down to drop-down menuand answer questions accordingly

• Once the Apply Now button appears,click it and continue

Complete FAFSA (fafsa.ed.gov)

Once accepted into the program:

As a military service member or veteran, Drexel waives the $100 matriculation fee

Send Certificate of Eligibility and V-Cert to Drexel’s certifying official. (Please contact your appointed Military Enrollment Counselor for certifying official’s information)
