At our September meeting, guest Sue Manno from the local chapter of the NCRS gave a presentation on the organization which now encompasses Corvettes from C1 to C4 eras. Our nominating committee of Jim Brett, Patti Kirkland, John Meyerhoff, and Donna Petro, did an outstanding job of contacting members to gauge their interest in running for an officer or board member position. This year’s cruise took us to the quaint town of Angelica, NY where we viewed a parade down Main Street plus a portion of the Civil War reenactment, took a hay ride, or shopped at the antique shops. Naturally the cruise included a meal before a light rain started on the way back home. We have a few more events planned before we put out babies away for the winter. See you at the October meeting. Thank You Dear Fellow Corvettes of Buffalo Members: My wife Raynee and me want to express our sincere appreciation for the cards, words of condolences, and donation made in memory of our late son, Andrew to the SPCA. It was a perfect choice. Our whole family loves animals. Our thanks to the Board of Directors for approving this donation. Nothing can prepare you for the nightmare of losing a child. The only thing that has helped us manage getting through each day and living with the pain is our faith, family and friends. Seeing and speaking with my friends from COB during the wake and funeral mass was a real source of comfort. We will always be grateful for your kindness and concern. Sam Iraci

CLASSIC CAR INSURANCE CORNER

Much to my dismay, the weather is starting to become overcast, drizzly and dreary. As our day time hours are diminishing, cruise nights and car shows are ending for another year. It won’t be long before we are changing our clocks back to Eastern Standard Time. Don’t become too discouraged and put your baby to bed for the winter yet. There is still some great cruising weather left on the weekends. The fall season in New York State is one of the most beautiful in the country. Our trees and landscapes provide us with spectacular views of what nature has to offer each and every year. So get together with some of your friends, bundle up, get into your classic automobile and experience our beautiful state. While our classics, exotics, street rods, muscle cars, and kit cars, etc. are hibernating for the winter months, do not cancel your classic auto insurance. A homeowner’s insurance policy does not protect a vehicle that is stored at your residence or at any other location. Your classic auto policy is a twelve month policy which protects your vehicle for glass breakage, vandalism, fire, falling objects, lighting, wind, vehicle theft, accidental damage such as scratches and dents, and so on. It also provides coverage for collision or hit and run damage. This may occur as a result of another vehicle smashing through the garage door and hitting your prized possession. It doesn’t matter if damage is caused by a plow truck, a service truck, or a regular private passenger vehicle, the loss is covered under your collision coverage, even if it is a hit and run. Believe it or not, I have personally experienced this type of loss. My 1976 Corvette was stored in my two and one half car attached garage, when a friend of my eighteen year old son stepped on the gas pedal of his car instead of the break, and drove through my garage door hitting my Corvette. Although the vehicle that drives into your classic while it was stored may have property damage liability, it is always advantageous to let your classic car insurance company handle the claim. As I explained in September, 2010 Classic Car Insurance Corner, your classic car insurance company understands and has great knowledge regarding the repair and/or replacement values of classic cars. They will always settle your claim on an agreed value basis. Regular car insurance companies settle claims on an Actual Cash Value basis. ACV is cost new less depreciation. After your company pays you for your loss, they in turn subrogate against the “at fault” persons insurance company.

OH NO THE DOZZIES

As the season continues club member continue to succumb to the DOZZIES. These two fine club members usually resist the affliction but alas the DOZZIES got um! The show must have been a little dull or too much lunch.

By the way if you or someone else is injured as a result of working on your classic car while stored, coverage is provided for loss of wages and/or medical expenses. This coverage is provided under the Personal Injury Protection section of your classic car insurance policy. The little known additional benefit of maintaining classic car insurance on your stored vehicle is that you never have to turn your plates in to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Last month I promised that we would discuss the importance of insuring an Exotic Car via a classic car insurer as opposed to insuring it with a regular auto insurance company. I am sure that you know that an Exotic Car is normally a highly desirable, expensive, limited production, some what rare, high performance, two seat/two door sports car that is too new to qualify for regular classic car coverage. In the Western New York area, the most common exotic cars, to name a few, are Corvettes, high end/high performance Mustangs, high end/high performance Camaros, Lexis two seat sports car, Mercedes two seat sports car, Nissan Z’s, Porsche, Cadillac high performance/two seat sports car, Vipers, and Dodge Chargers and Challengers that are high end/high performance cars. The absolute best way to insure an Exotic Car is through a Classic Car insurance company that also insures exotic vehicles, in the same fashion as they insure a classic car. In the event of a total loss the insurance company will settle the claim on an Agreed Value basis instead of the normal Actual Cash Value basis. Assuming that the exotic vehicle was insured for an Agreed Value of $50,000, the total amount of the claim that would be paid by the classic car insurance company would be $50,000 in full. If the same exotic car was insured with a regular auto insurance company, the claim would be settled on an Actual Cash Value basis. The amount paid to the insured for that total loss would be a depreciated amount. That amount would depend on the age and current market value of that vehicle. In any event, the amount that the insured would receive would be much less than the Agreed Value of $50,000. The same principle will also apply to a partial claim. If a fender has to be replaced due to an accident or hit and run, the regular insurance company would not replace it with a new one, they may repair it or replace it with a used or aftermarket fender. Conversely, a classic car insurance company will replace the damaged fender or part with a NOS fender or part. If you have an exotic car, get a quote through a classic car insurance company. In most, but not all situations, the insurance rate for an exotic car will be less or at least close to what you are currently paying for regular car insurance.

It is worth a phone call to get a quote, as the Agreed Value coverage is so much better than the Actual Cash Value, (depreciated amount), coverage. Next month we will begin to discuss additional benefits and coverage’s that are automatically included as a part of a classic car insurance policy. Don’t forget, we are classic car hobbyist just like you. Because of our common love for all types of classic and exotic automobiles; we are always available to help you with your questions or problems. So do not hesitate to call, we are always here for you. Call Ron at 716-886-5696 or Jodi at 716-362-7394, or if necessary at our toll free number 1-800-853-3820, ext. 7394. Until then drive safely, watch out for the other guy and enjoy our beautiful Fall weather. Cruise Safely & Enjoy Your Classic Car, Ron & Jodi Classic Car Insurance - USA

NCCC GOVERNOR Dues are due at the November meeting. The national convention for 2011 is in Tinley

Park, IL. 25 miles outside Chicago, June 18-24.

There is a new membership database in place to move us up into the 21st century. There has been a Vision Committee formed to suggest improvements to the organization as a whole.

As with our club, there are elections coming up, also with a ballot for 2012 convention in Topeka, KS.

A representative from K&K insurance addressed the national meeting and said they were impressed with the way N.C.C.C. was structured and our claims history.

Save The Wave Ray.

New Members What red blooded, flag waving apple pie eating, American male, would not want to own a Corvette? A rhetorical question that need not be answered. I happen to be one of those fine American car buying patriots of the highest order when I purchased my very first Corvette from Rich Zahner. Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen, the sun rose bright in that cloudless azure sky on that morning in May, the birds chirped and the dew was giving way to the Earths warming. All was good. This was more exciting than my first bike on Christmas morning, my first tender kiss, my first beer. Well, the bike and kiss, anyway. It all started when I called my buddy Bob Blandford to inquire about the price of a Corvette I saw at a used car dealership. Bob put the phone on speaker so that he could put his hands behind his back, paced back and forth, and said, "I got just the car for you." Bob and I rode to Rich's house, looked at the car, and I was hooked. Thank you Bob for directing me to Rich; thank you Rich for taking such good care of that '94 beauty; and thank you & Consumers for such a large variety of beer. P.S. Four months after my purchase, I still go into the garage before bed, pull the blankie up over the hood, tuck it behind the mirrors and say good night. Marty & Pat Nowak
