Bringing diversity and inclusiveness into every aspect of our work and cul-

ture is one of our firm’s core values. Diversity benefits our firm directly by enabling

us to attract world-class legal talent and enriching the quality and fabric of our firm. For

our clients, diversity enables us to provide superior and innovative solutions to their most

sophisticated legal challenges. With a commitment that starts at the top and is shared by

all of us, we continue to make significant strides in diversity. In 2017, we were recognized

for the robust role women lawyers play in our firm with a fourth Gold Standard Certification

from the Women in Law Empowerment Forum. For the 11th year in a row, we achieved a

perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s

Corporate Equality Index, reflecting our welcoming

environment and best-practice policies for LGBTQ

lawyers. The firm also was recognized for the sec-

ond consecutive year as a Top Performer by the

Leadership Council on Legal Diversity.

Diversity is a core value of our culture and a strategic priority for our firm. We know that diversity enriches the quality and fabric of our culture, and it makes us a better, stronger firm. We value diversity because we know it produces superior, innovative solutions for our clients.

Bryan Cave Women Bryan Cave Women (BCW) is dedicated to promoting

the success of our women lawyers. Through a vari-

ety of initiatives and programming, BCW provides

opportunities for our women lawyers to build strong

networks inside and outside the firm, to develop lead-

Here are some highlights from 2017.

Women’s Leadership Summit

Bryan Cave Women (BCW) hosted a group of wom-en clients for the 2017 Women’s Leadership Summit in Chicago. The much-anticipated event centered on a packed agenda of top speakers, including Cara Hale Alter, an expert in projecting confidence and compe-tence; Tiffany Dufu, who discussed the art of letting go; and Lee Woodruff, who shared her family’s person-al journey recovering from trauma to build a national nonprofit that assists veterans’ families.

Critical Conversations: Finding Common Ground

Moved by the implications surrounding the rhetoric of the 2016 presidential campaign, BCW-DC invited clients to a speaker series intended to foster understand-ing and encourage community engagement. “Critical Conversations: Finding Common Ground” was a series of dialogues around issues of race and ethnicity, civil rights and due process, and the roles of the media and the legal community. Speaker Judy Woodruff, anchor and managing editor of the PBS NewsHour, shared her views on the challenges and opportunities of today’s me-dia landscape. Tamara Smith, CEO of YWCA National Capital Area, discussed empowering women and elimi-nating racism. Dr. Karina Korostolina, professor at the

The firm was proud to be recognized by the Women in Law Empowerment Forum (WILEF) as a Gold Standard firm for the

fourth year in a row. WILEF created its Gold Standard Certification to encourage the ad-vancement of women in large law firms. Sponsorship ProgramBryan Cave in 2017 launched the second class of a sponsorship program for diverse asso-ciates who are within three years of eligibility for partnership consideration. Associates are paired with partners, all of whom are senior leaders and rainmakers. Sponsorship is a two-way commitment between the sponsor and the associate in which they identify mutual goals and undertake joint actions to achieve those goals. The sponsors create opportunities for associates’ practice development, leadership development and business generation. In turn, the associates prepare and execute individual-ized career development plans. The year-long program is highly structured, with required time commitments and a monthly group video conference for all the pairs to participate in rel-evant, substantive programming and to share their experiences.
