VFW BERT FULLER POST 9578
ALPINE CALIFORNIA
February 2017

Commander’s Message
The New year came in with a Bang and a Thump! I was gone during the rain
here in Alpine. I hope all survived without any major problems. The Post
suffered some damages during this me with a tree falling from the garden
area and damaging the Barbecue area and Deck roof. The tree has been re-
moved and insurance nofied. We are waing for esmates on repairs.
With the disconnuaon of the Men's Auxiliary it is important that all mem-
bers who wish to retain their membership fill out the paper work to join the
VFW Auxiliary.
I understand at the last General Meeng we had only a few parcipate. It is
crical that we get members to parcipate and volunteer to help with any
projects that may arise.
We need feed back as to what the members want to have done or accom-
plish within our organizaon.

Auxiliary President’s Message
Busy month with Dept. events and Aux meeng. Our new Auxiliary banner as
menoned, was ordered, and we are just waing on the delivery to display in
our meeng room.
The new banner will replace both the Men’s & Ladies’ Aux banners for rere-
ment. This banner will be the same on the embroidery with our Aux 9578 and
name of Bert Fuller, along with the start date of our charter.
We will be having our Valenne’s Day Bake sale in conjuncon with dinner on
Fri. 10 February from 4p-7p., so please bring delicious baked items for the fund
raiser. The flyer was submied to the Dispatch newsleer for the other Posts/
Auxiliaries’ informaon.
At the last District Auxiliary meeng, our Dept. President, Tootsie, discussed
future updates for all of Auxiliary as well as celebrang her birthday. Many of
the folks from Dept. (State of Ca.) were in aendance. Sherl Devario who is
currently the State Secretary/Treasurer will be resigning soon.
Just as a reminder, the Auxiliary is governed by the rules and regulaons set up
in the By-Laws. Please kindly review the informaon regarding procedures on
how and what we do relave to assisng veterans in various ways. Discussion
of fund raisers is done at the monthly meengs, and as always, must be voted
on prior to submission to House Commiee so everything is documented.
The chili cookoff from Sat. 28 January went well, lots of entries and lots of great
comments on the different styles of chili. Thanks to JR for this ‘delicious’
event!
John Snyder was nominated and voted in as assistant Chaplain when Terri is
unavailable. He recommended on a March recruitment drive for those folks
who have not yet decided on joining the Auxiliary.
We are looking forward to perhaps having our Aux sister, Karen K., create more
of her poppy bolo es for fundraisers at the Post.
I have been advised (however not confirmed yet) that the State of CA Auxiliary
Dept. convenon will be held in mid-June in Ontario, CA. Once the informaon
has been received, this will be brought up at our meeng. Everyone is wel-
come and invited to aend.
Please note: April is 2 months away regarding nominaons and elecons for
next year’s line officers. Should you wish to be part of the new line officers,
please make sure to read the descripons in the bylaws for addional infor-
maon.
Sending posive thoughts to those fighng overseas in harm’s way, and best
wishes to all for February.

Chaplain’s Message
Regardless of one’s polical interests, beliefs or party, I feel it’s fiPng that we offer a prayer for the
new presidenal administraon of our great Country. Therefore, from the Episcopal Church Book of
Common Prayer:
O Lord, our God, whose glory is in all the world; we commend this naon to thy merciful care, that
being guided by thy providence, we may dwell secure in thy peace. Grant to the President of the Unit-
ed States, and to all in authority, wisdom and strength to know and to do thy will. Fill them with your
love and truth and righteousness; and make them ever mindful of their calling to serve the people.
AMEN.
Several of our members are experiencing serious illnesses; let us pray for them.
Lord, Almighty God, we pray for your healing grace in behalf of each of our ailing comrades and fel-
low veterans. May they know the blessing of improved health in this hour and throughout life. Bless
all who minister to them in body, mind and spirit, and grant that they may always give praise to you,
our heavenly Father. AMEN.
This closing benedicon is from Numbers 6: 24-26:
“The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you;
The Lord li- up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.” AMEN.
Theodore Bazdorf, Chaplain
CHAPLAIN’S MESSAGE
Let’s let I.R.M.A. be the acronym for the year to come, standing for: Integrity, Respect, Manners and
APtude. We all should strive to beer understand ourselves and our comrades, to the end that our
relaonships here on Planet Earth be smoother. In other words, let’s try to remove pePness and
small-mindedness from our lives during 2015 and beyond.
Lord, may we be more tolerant and compassionate toward other human beings this new year. Help us
to strive for peace and good will amongst our friends, families and fellow veterans, thus creang a
more serene existence for all. AMEN.
Army Vietnam veteran and Post Life Member Charlie Howell was in a serious auto accident last week,
and is recovering at Sharp Hospital.
Lord, Almighty God, we pray for your healing grace in behalf of Charles Howell. May he know the bless-
ing of good health in this hour and throughout his life. Bless all who minister to Charles in body, mind
and spirit, and grant him a quick recovery from his recent injuries. AMEN.

Quartermaster’s Message
The recent storms resulted in damage to our BBQ and back deck. Because of so much storm damage,
we hope our insurance adjuster will arrive on Friday the 27th
of January to survey the extensive dam-
age. Our BBQ area is wiped out and the roof of the main deck is damaged. Congrats to Barbara Fore-
man our new kitchen manager. We look forward to her success. We sll have a number of annual
members who have not paid 2017 dues. Please help yourself and the Post with this issue. Members of
the Men’s Auxiliary must all reapply to join the VFW Auxiliary. If you have not done so applicaon
forms are at the Post. Our January Post meeng only had eleven members present to transact busi-
ness. Really a sad moment for our Post. I am available 24/7 to assist members with any issue, com-
plaints and general quesons.
