1 Preparing your VAIO for Windows 7Ensure the below steps are carried out before starting with the Upgrade Process.

1 Ensure your VAIO is connected to a power socket using an AC adapter. Do not disconnect the AC adapter from the VAIO or the power socket for the complete duration of the upgrade process.

2 Disconnect all peripheral devices except the optical disc drive (on models without an integrated optical disc drive) and the AC adapter.

3 Ensure you have created the Vista recovery disks for your VAIO. For more information on how to create recovery disks, please click Start > All Programs > VAIO Recovery Center. The recovery disks might be required to restore your VAIO to factory state in case a critical issue should occur.

4 Some functions available on Windows Vista might be restricted or might not be available after upgrading to Windows 7. For an overview of known restrictions or limitations, please visit: http://www.vaio-link.com.

5 Ensure all your data, settings and software licenses are backed up. Please visit: http://www.vaio-link.com for information on how to back up your data.

6 Ensure the hidden recovery partition is present. Click Start, right click Computer, click Manage > Storage > Disk Management. Make sure an unnamed volume is present above the volume labeled (C:). The presence of the hidden recovery partition is required for the VAIO Upgrade Media DVD to work correctly. If the hidden recovery partition is not present, you will need to recover your VAIO to its factory state using recovery discs before upgrading to Windows 7.

2 Upgrading your VAIO to Windows 7Before starting with the upgrade process, ensure all required steps as mentioned in section 1 "Preparing your VAIO for Windows 7" have been carried out.

1 Log onto Windows Vista as a user with Administrator rights and close all open windows.

2 Insert the VAIO Supplement DVD (DVD 1).Click Autorun.exe in the AutoPlay window.Follow the on-screen instructions.

Note: It might take some time to start the preparation of your VAIO for Windows 7. Please be patient.

3 Manually uninstall software applications and drivers.

Note 1:If the Found New Hardware Wizard window appears, click Cancel.Note 2:If one of the below software items is not displayed in the Uninstall or change a program window, then please skip the item.

Click Start > Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program.

• Uninstall Protector Suite QL.Select Protector Suite QL 5.3 and click Uninstall/Change.Follow the on-screen instructions.

• Uninstall Roxio Easy Media Creator.Select Roxio Easy Media Creator and click Uninstall/Change.Click Next and Remove.Follow the on-screen instructions.

• Uninstall LAN-Express AS IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN.Select LAN-Express AS IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN and click Uninstall.Click Remove and Next.Follow the on-screen instructions.

• Uninstall Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software.

Select Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and click Uninstall/Change.Click Remove and Next.Follow the on-screen instructions.

• Uninstall the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver. (On VGN-Z series only)Select Realtek High Definition Audio Driver and click Uninstall/Change.Follow the on-screen instructions.

• Uninstall OpenMG Setup.Select OpenMG Secure Module and click Uninstall/Change.Follow the on-screen instructions.

GB4 Insert the Windows 7 Upgrade DVD (DVD 2).

Click setup.exe in the AutoPlay window.Select the language corresponding to the language of your Vista system.Click Install now and follow the on-screen instructions.When prompted, select Upgrade as installation type.When prompted, enter the Windows 7 product key.

5 Insert the VAIO Supplement DVD (DVD 1).

Note: If the Found New Hardware Wizard window appears, click Cancel.

Click Autorun.exe in the AutoPlay window.Follow the on-screen instructions.

6 Update the BIOS.Double click on the file whose file type is Application in C:\Upgrade\BIOS.Follow the on-screen instructions.

Note: If there is no folder named BIOS, the BIOS does not need to be updated.

7 Manually install software applications and drivers.

Note: Depending on your model you might need to manually install software items using the below steps. If one of the below software items is not present in the indicated folder, then please skip the item.

• Install SonicStage Mastering Studio.Double click on the file whose file type is Application in the C:\Upgrade\Application\SonicStage Mastering Studio folder.Follow the on-screen instructions.

• Install DSD Direct.Double click the file whose file type is Application in the C:\Upgrade\Application\DSD Direct folder.Follow the on-screen instructions.

• Install Broadcom Bluetooth driver.Double click on Setup.exe in the C:\Upgrade\Drivers\Broadcom folder.Follow the on-screen instructions.

8 After upgrading to Windows 7 the McAfee PC SecurityCenter subscription might need to be re-activated.Connect to the Internet.Right-click the McAfee icon on the taskbar and click Product Setup.

Note: If you do not see Product Setup, then your products have already been registered.

4 Installation NoticesInstallation for some of the Windows 7 products may require you to re-format your hard drive. Upgrades may not allow you to retain certain applications, files and settings as they were in the previous installed edition of Windows software. Therefore, you should back up your files and settings prior to the installation or they may be erased.

If you upgrade and want to return (if permitted by your license terms) to the Windows Vista product previously running, you will need to un-install the Windows 7 product and re-install the Windows Vista product using a recovery solution for the Windows Vista product.

Product Activation of Windows 7 Upgrade software is required. The product key number found on the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) supplied with the upgrade software is required to activate the Windows 7 software. Please keep the COA and related product key for use during Windows 7 Product Activation. Please attach the COA to your PC for future reference.

4 InstallationshinweiseBei der Installation mancher Versionen von Windows 7 muss die Festplatte neu formatiert werden. Nach der Aktualisierung stehen dann die Anwendungen, Dateien und Einstellungen der zuvor installierten Windows-Version nicht mehr zur Verfügung. Sichern Sie daher vor dem Installieren unbedingt wichtige Dateien und Einstellungen, da diese sonst gelöscht werden könnten.

Wenn Sie die Aktualisierung durchgeführt haben und danach wieder die zuvor installierte Windows Vista-Version verwenden möchten (sofern Ihre Lizenz dies gestattet), müssen Sie Windows 7 deinstallieren und dann Windows Vista von einer Wiederherstellungslösung erneut installieren.

Das Windows 7 Upgrade muss aktiviert werden. Geben Sie zur Aktivierung von Windows 7 den Produktschlüssel ein, der sich auf dem mitgelieferten Echtheitszertifikat befindet. Das Zertifikat und der Produktschlüssel werden auch für eine eventuelle spätere Produktaktivierung von Windows 7 benötigt. 6 Vérifiez que la partition de récupération masquée est présente. Cliquez sur Démarrer, cliquez avec le bouton droit sur Ordinateur, puis cliquez sur Gérer > Stockage > Gestion des disques. Vérifiez qu'un volume non nommé figure au-dessus du volume intitulé (C:). La présence de la partition de récupération masquée est nécessaire pour assurer le fonctionnement correct du DVD du support de mise à niveau VAIO. Si la partition de récupération masquée est absente, vous devrez récupérer les paramètres par défaut de votre ordinateur VAIO à l'aide des disques de récupération avant la mise à niveau vers Windows 7.
