VH FIBRE – INTRODUCTION

VH Fibre Optics (Pty) Ltd is a value-add distribution and installation services’ company which commenced business in October 2008 specializing in fibre optic network solutions. The company is owned by Patrick van Heerden (50%), John van Reenen (24.9%) and The Building Exciting Education Trust (25.1%).

John van Reenen is a qualified accountant and has over the past 30 years built two multi-million rand steel businesses.

Patrick van Heerden is the Managing Director of VH Fibre Optics which was established in 2008. He started in the industry as a splicing technician in 1997 and has installation experience from the mining, industrial to the telecoms industry. Passionate about fibre, he quickly moved up the ladder into sales, then to blown-fibre specialist, product manager and finally Managing Director. He has been instrumental in introducing new technologies into Southern Africa, notably blown fibre, blown mini cable and retractable cable solutions. His work experience drives his hands on, technical approach to clients with his strength being solutions selling and attention to detail.

Patrick is a Certified Fibre Optic Technician approved by the Fibre Optic Industry Association, as well as a certified Prysmian Sirocco Blown Fibre Trainer. VH Fibre Optics (Pty) Ltd is one of the founding members of the Fibre to the Home Council Africa.

VH Fibre Optics (Pty) Ltd has a level 5 BBBEE scorecard.

The transaction, which took place in July 2012, was a milestone for the company. This is not just because it is required by law, but because of the work of the Trust which is playing an important role in the country’s education system.The Trust is involved in education in underprivileged areas of Johannesburg and Cape Town, affecting the lives of more than 2 000 children a year. The main focus of the Trust is to give children, many from informal settlements in the school’s area, hope that they can aspire to better living standards and to make schools a place where they would like to spend more time.Schools are chosen from the very poorest areas, which typically have little maintenance expenditure allocations. The Trust endeavours to employ unemployed parents of schools as tillers, carpenters, plumbers, electricians and general labourers. It supplies all materials and supervises the upgrading of classrooms, toilets and school grounds. The directors of VH Fibre feel that this is the way BBBEE should be done in South Africa. No one is getting rich, except for the children that the trust invests in.

RETRACTANET – RETRACTABLE CABLE

As a complete direct buried underground drop solution, RetractaNet is fast, flexible, reliable and user-friendly, combining fully integrated connectivity products and innovative tools.

The unique RetractaNet Cable, filled with smaller fibre modules, runs from the Optical Distribution Point, through trenches that can be cut and retracted from one point to another. It’s then fed or blown directly to the customer premises.

VERTICASA – INDOOR RETRACTABLE CABLE

Designed specifically for bringing optical fibre directly to residents of high-rise apartments and offices, the heart of the Verticasa system features a new concept in optical cable construction allowing remarkably easy fibre access and break-out, reducing the demand for skilled labour and installation time and cost.

The Verticasa system provides a fast and flexible means of connecting users in a Multi Dwelling Unit (MDU). The system comprises a main riser cable of up to 96 fibres, which can be branched directly to individual subscribers on different floors of the MDU without the need for the splicing of fibre within the riser of the building.
