In October 2010, banners emblazoned with “Vic 175 – Making History” were hung on campus and surrounding streets. Shortly after, history was made at Victoria with the installation of Vic’s 13th Chancellor, Wendy M. Cecil, 7T1, the first woman to hold this position. This was the official start to a year-long celebration of Vic’s 175th , with alumni, students, faculty members, and admin sta gathering for lectures and social events, such as our Academy Awards party held on the night of the Oscars™. The lecture series created much interest and enthusiastic discussion, and is available on the Vic website.

The next event will be our Family Day on June 11 when we invite you to bring your kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews or neighbours to the Vic campus. and introduce them to the place that created special memories for you.

Vic’s 175th Charter Day and Gala week will be held on October 12, the anniversary of the signing of our Charter, until October 16. Show your pride and enthusiasm for your alma mater; and come home to Vic. We are calling all Vic grads back to the campus on Saturday, October 15, 2011. Help us make history with the largest alumni event ever held at Vic!

VIC: A P EOPLE ’S H ISTORYVictoria has a long history and as we celebrate our 175th anniversary in 2011, we want to be sure that the history goes beyond the bricks and mortar that are familiar to many alumni. We want to tell the story of the people who have passed through the hallways and made their mark on Victoria and the world. Are you the first generation in your family to come to Vic, or the fourth? What is your best student memory of Vic: your first day at Orientation, watching Gilbert and Sullivan performances in the 1950s, or the thrill of having your poetry published in Acta Victoriana?

What is your Vic story? Now is the time to share it!

Send in your memory by email to [email protected] by fax to 416-585-4594, or by mail to the Victoria Alumni Office at 73 Queen’s Park Cres., Toronto, Ontario, M5S 1K7.

CALLING ALL ARTISTS VIC 175 ART CONTESTS DEADLINE JUNE 30, 2011

What pictures come to mind when you think of your alma mater? Old Vic is one of the most recognizable buildings on our campus and in honour of the 175th anniversary celebrations Vic is hosting two visual arts competitions: an art contest and a photo contest open to all Victoria University alumni, students, faculty and sta.

Art entries must feature the Victoria College building (Old Vic) as the main subject, and may make use of any artistic technique (epen and ink, charcoal, watercolour, acrylic, etc.). Photo entries must fall into one of two categories: Vic campus and Vic student life.

For each of the three categories, cash prizes of $500 will be awarded to one winner, and winning entries will be featured in the 175th anniversary celebrations. Make your own Vic history by submitting your work of art or photography for the Vic 175 Visual Arts contest.

Entries must be postmarked June 30, 2011. Visit www.vicu.utoronto.ca/about/vic175 for full contest rules.
