Sports FieldsThe sports fields are located in the center of the park and accessed primarily from the parking lot off Wilson Street. The ball diamonds are used daily on weekdays and sporadically on weekends, and serve slo-pitch teams from across Greater Victoria. The soccer pitch is not currently used due to the field condition and the slope of the land.

Improvements to the sports fields could include improvements to the playing surface, additional seating or structures, or enlargement of the ball diamonds to accommodate Junior Baseball and/or Senior Big League teams.

Have some thoughts about the leash-optional area? Let us know in this space!

Leash-Optional AreaVic West has the highest per household ratio of licensed dogs in Victoria - one in two homes has a dog! Triangle Park is nearby on Wilson Road and is also used by dog owners, but is not a leash-optional area.

The leash-optional dog area is located in the North-East corner of the park, off Wilson Street. It is one of 12 leash-optional dog areas in Victoria. Portions of the leash-optional area have a chain link fence along the pathway, but the area does not have continous fencing around the perimeter.

Leash-Optional FeaturesPossible improvements to the leash-optional area could include additions such as perimeter fencing, play elements and agility training, or bag dispensers. Let us know what additional features, if any, you would like to see by placing your stickers below.

Have some thoughts about the skate park or basketball court? Let us know in this space!

Skate Park & Basketball CourtThis skate park is the only City-operated skate park in Victoria. The skate facility was built in two phases: the original bowl was installed in 1992 and is currently used as a beginner bowl. The remainder of the park, including the basketball court, was installed in 2002. The oldest portion of the skate park requires repair, and will be redesigned as part of the park improvements next year.

The skate park is heavily used year-round by skateboarders, BMX riders, and scooter riders. The basketball court is used almost daily in nice weather.

Have some thoughts about the playground? Let us know in this space!

PlaygroundThe existing playground was installed in 1997 and is due for replacement. A new playground will be built as part of the park improvements. Because the Victoria West Neighbourhood has grown so much since the last playground was installed, this current playground is likely too small to meet the needs of families in the neighbourhood.

The new playground will be larger and accommodate a wider range of ages and abilities.
