Hotty Toddy, my friends from Ole Miss! Congratula-tions on the win! Now that I have that out of the way and as the college football season turns the corner to final games this month, “good luck” to all of our teams. Remember the Club for Saturday tailgating!!! Can you believe that November is upon us? Thanks to

everyone you your support this past month. The event

planning, staff preparations and great attendance by our

members and guests were superb.

A lot is going on in November starting with our Annual

Dock Party on the 1st. If it is anything like last year, the

boat owners will have a delicious array of finger foods

for you to enjoy. Also, there will be a bar set up and live

music. All members and their guests are invited to come

out and have a fun afternoon dockside starting at 4 pm.

Other scheduled events:

Nov. 6—private party for over 100 golfers

Nov 8—Past Commodores’ Dinner

Nov 20—All Hands Meeting/nominations for

next year’s officers and Board

Nov 27—Our traditional Thanksgiving Pot Luck

Dinner

The membership drive has been great. We have ap-

proved new members at every Board meeting since we

began the drive. Keep up the good work! To all you

new members, don’t hesitate to call me if you have any

questions or issues that need to be addressed.

We have had very positive feedback on our new menu,

food quality and preparation. Chef Hunter is settling and

doing a great job.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Look forward to seeing you

The pilings for the repair of the pier have been delivered. As of this newsletter, the installation and other repairs should be complete. If not, I will be planning another work party, soon. The Sail Locker has been reorganized which will make everything in the building much easier to find and re-trieve. Thank you, Steve Jones and the House Committee for taking on this important project. Kid’s Corner for you, your family, and your guest’s

pleasure. Please understand it is your responsibility

GLYC Membership Drive 2014

Kick Off: September 1, 2014

Dates: September through November (subject to

change)

Objective: Increase membership/revenue

Goal: Net 5 new members monthly

Process: Application can be downloaded or picked up

at GLYC. All completed applications must have a mem-

ber sponsor who invited the prospect from outside the

Club (Walk-in new members do not count) and be

turned in before the third Monday to be voted on at the

monthly GLYC Board Meeting. Payments may be by

check, cash or credit card. The office will work with the

proposed new member on credit card transactions.

Sponsors will receive a $100 monthly dues credit for

each new member approved by the Board during this

drive. Your account will be credited following the meet-

ing approving the new member you sponsored. When

people ask about what they get with a membership, tell

them they get the use of a friendly, private, family-

oriented facility which is one of the most affordable ones

on the Gulf Coast. They also have access to a private

boat ramp close to islands for camping, to NAS, the Pass

for fishing, the gateway to the Intercoastal and one of

the most beautiful backyards you can find anywhere.

Because GLYC is a member of the Gulf Yachting Asso-

ciation, they also have access to other member yacht

clubs along the Gulf Coast.

The weather is still beautiful, so let’s get out on the water while it is nice. If anyone needs help or assistance in get-ting out on the water, please let us know, and we will try to make it happen. Any GLYC member who would like to learn to sail should contact me for individual or group instructions. Saturday sunfish sailing lessons will be curtailed until next year when the water temperature rises again. We have three Sunfish which members can use. You might want wet suits and to have a utility chase boat available, however. Events: The Dock Boat Party will be in full swing on November 1 starting at 4 pm. This is the last day of sunlight in the early evening, so take advantage...bring your boat to the dock, or come visit and share in the celebrations. Mu-sic, food and beverages will be available. Sail Training most Saturdays 10 am to noon and by appointment, weather permitting. Check bulletin board for GYA regatta schedules. Goal for this year: Let’s get ourselves and our youth out on the water. Safety tip of the month: winter is upon us, and the tides will be lower than normal, winds higher than normal and stormy weather always a possibility. Check your lines for chaff. The recent blow we had almost destroyed two of my dock lines. Also, be sure your lines are not too high on the pilings. They should be at or slightly above deck level at the new high tides. An excessively high line on a piling could crack or pull the piling loose from the bottom. Be sure your forward lines are doubled. It doesn’t hurt to double the stern line and always provide a spring line or two. If anyone needs assistance getting your boat tied properly at the dock, see me or Dock Master Ramsey Greene.

Fair winds and following seas…

A GENTLE REMINDER

Thanksgiving Pot Luck

The Club will be closed on Thanksgiving Day

so our staff may spend the holiday with their

families. However, Hannah and John Adams

will be hosting our traditional Thanksgiving Pot

Luck dinner on the 27th. Bring your favorite

dish and your guests to this great annual event.

There will be a sign-up sheet at the bar to name

your dish and number of guests you expect to

bring. If you have not been to one of these in

the past, come to this one. The food and com-

pany are fantastic! Ladies, you’ll never want to

cook a full Thanksgiving dinner again! Men, if

you go away hungry, it’s your own fault!

CRAPPY CRAFTERS REPORT

What a great time we had on our trip to “The

Little Zoo That Could” in Gulf Shores. Han-

nah and I went into the lemur cage and let

them jump all over us. That was the highlight

of MY trip. We were also given the opportunity

to pet a snake, a possum, and a ferret. Some of

our not-so-brave girls chose not to. After

“wreaking havoc” on the animals, we all cara-

vanned to LuLu’s for lunch. Anyone who did-

n’t go with us sure missed a good time. We

could always go again. Tuesday, Nov. 11th,

that’s a plan to meet at GLYC at 9am to cara-

van downtown to watch the Veteran’s Day pa-

rade with lunch to follow somewhere, of course.

Tuesday, Nov. 18th we plan to meet at the Club

around 10 am to get some ideas for Christmas

crafting. Bring any ideas you might have that

we can work on.

We had another big Bunco crowd with 31

shared that “honor.” The Half and Half win-

NOMINATIONS AND ELECTION

In accordance with Article V, Section 1 of the By-Laws, the Nominations Committee was named at the October Board meeting. Cindy Peer will be in charge this year. A sign-up board has been posted the required two or more weeks prior to the All Hands meeting in November. To sign up, a candidate must print his or her name in the designated space and sign in the designated place. If candidates wish to remove their names, they must strike through their names and initial at the end of the lines. Nominations from the floor are encouraged; however, there will be no nominations or write-in votes presented on Election Day in December. The Flag Officers will be elected annually. The five Board Members will be elected to two-years terms in the following staggered manner: two will be elected in a given year followed by three the following year. As two Board Members were elected for 2014, three will be elected this cycle. The election will take place in December with the newly elected officers and Board members taking office at the first meeting in January. The Election Committee will use a current list of all regular members in good standing to deter-mine eligibility to vote, one vote per membership number. The Election Committee will provide printed ballots on the designated election night, tally, verify, and announce the results. Ties will be broken in accordance with Article V, Section 3 of the By-Laws. Persons who wish to vote absentee must pick up ballots at the Club. Absentee ballots must be notarized and delivered sealed, to the Club prior to election day. Those ballots will be opened and counted by the Election Committee with the ballots cast at the regular election.
