JUDGES: Laureen Geib from Calgary Jeannette Bonar from Coquitlam SATURDAY NOVEMBER 24, 2018 Registration # CBC CO 181020 • BEGINNER and NOVICE events will begin at 9:30AM • PRIMARY events will not begin before 10:30AM • INTERMEDIATE and PREMIER events will not begin before 12:30PM • CHOREOGRAPHY events will take place after the regular Premier events. COMPETITION RULES 1. All dancing rules and regulations are governed by the SOBHD. 2. ALL COMPETITORS MUST PRESENT A VALID DANCER REGISTRATION #. Awards will be withheld and a $5.00 fee must be paid for any dancer without a valid card. 3. Decisions of the competition organizer and judges are final, including age categories and number of placements in each event. 4. Classes will be divided according to number of entries received. 5. Competitors dance only in their respective age groups. 6. Competitors must be in the marshalling area when their event is called or forfeit entry in that event. 7. Competitors must dance with swords and to music provided by the competition organizer. 8. There will be no entry refunds. A $25 fee will be assessed for any NSF cheque. 9. VHDA must be notified of any class changes by November 19, 2018 (c/o [email protected]). 10. Protests must be made in writing and given to the competition organizer at the event, accompanied by $10.00 fee (refundable if sustained). 11. All competitors must be in full costume to receive medals / prizes. 12. Choreography events are open to all Intermediate and Premier dancers. Intermediate and Premier will be combined and event may be divided by age. Choreography entries are limited. Entries will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis (based on completed registration/payment). 13. Choreography and trophy fling events do not count towards aggregate awards. 14. Dancers may enter more than one choreography group. 15. Choreography dances must not exceed 4 minutes, including entrance and exit. 16. Costumes, music and props for choreography events must be consistent with a Scottish or Celtic theme. 17. Choreography entrants must provide music in CD format, with only one tune per CD. 18. Special awards will be given for the choreography and trophy fling events. Cash prizes will be awarded in the regular 16 & over Premier categories. Medals will be awarded in all other events / categories. 19. Entry deadline is November 16, 2018. Late entries are at the discretion of the VHDA. BILL JOHNSTON MEMORIAL TROPHY & BURSARY The Bill Johnston Memorial Trophy and Bursary for 2017/2018 will be awarded at the close of the competition to the VHDA member with the highest points accumulated at the VHDA’s November 2017, February 2018 and September 2018 competitions. The award is given in memory of Bill Johnston for his contribution to the VHDA and his unfailing support and enthusiasm for its highland dancers. The annual award is open to VHDA members at all levels.
