The Sandown Greyhound Racing Club this week
announced Crocmedia as major partner of the 2018
Greyhound Clubs Australia National
Championships.
Crocmedia enjoys an increasingly significant position
in the Australian sports media landscape, boasting
partnerships with the cream of Australian and
international sports. Crocmedia’s obsession for
creating engaging sport and entertainment content is a
perfect fit for greyhound racing and expands further
upon Crocmedia’s existing involvement in the sport.
The Crocmedia National Championships brings
greyhound racing fans, participants and administrators
together in a week-long celebration of the sport,
incorporating a number of industry conferences as well
as the annual Greyhound Clubs Australia Awards
night, and culminates in the staging of the group 1
Crocmedia National Championships on Friday 24
August.
Sandown Greyhound Racing Club Chairman Neil
Brown was delighted to welcome Crocmedia on board
for one of greyhound racing’s highest profile events.
“Crocmedia is one of the country’s most innovative
sports media companies and we’re excited to have
them on board for the Nationals,” Brown said.
“The focus of every fan of the sport will be on
Sandown Park in August and we’re looking forward to
partnering with Crocmedia to make the 2018 Nationals
a memorable event for all.”
Crocmedia Chief Executive Officer Craig Hutchison
said the partnership with the Sandown Greyhound
Racing Club strengthens Crocmedia’s longstanding
relationship with greyhound racing.
“We’re thrilled to support one of Australian greyhound
racing’s marquee events,” Hutchison said.
“Greyhound racing is a vibrant, exciting sport that
continues to go from strength to strength. Crocmedia
has been proud to support initiatives such as the
Ready2Race sales and the Chase for Charity, and we’re
looking forward to being a part of this year’s National
Championships.”
The Crocmedia National Sprint Championship and
Crocmedia National Distance Championship grand
finals will be run at Sandown Park on Friday 24
August.

DYNA DOUBLE ONE March 2013 Barcia Bale x Crystin Bale
X
MOLTISANTI August 2014 Magic Sprite x Golden Goal (Collision x Okay Supreme)
Melbourne Cup winner DYNA DOUBLE ONE is Barcia Bale’s most successful
son winning 4 Group 1’s and over $1m in prize money breaking 3 track records
in the process.
Moltisanti (Magic Sprite x Golden Goal) was a brilliant beginner with a 5.02 first
section split at Sandown in her first start. Her early brilliance put her in every
race and she ended her career with a 67: 15-13-10 record and $30,000 in prize
money. Victories at Bendigo (23.98); Warrnambool (22.30); Traralgon (22.88);
Sale (24.98); Ballarat (22.13); Shepparton (22.06) & Geelong (22.38) demonstrate
her versatility.
This damline keeps on producing consistent winners generation after generation. Her dam,
Golden Goal 40: 7-6-8 (Collision x Okay Supreme) is from a litter that produced Fully
Advanced ($169,520); Joshua ($45,915); Just Tripping ($63,295) and Thommo's Pizazz
($33,540)
We sent her to Dyna Double One to inject the strength and toughness to complement her
brilliance. The Barcia Bale cross with Magic Sprite has produced mutliple Group 1 winning
dogs like Fast Times. Exciting youngster Double Que in the powerful Seona Thompson kennel
is also a son of Dyna Double One with the Magic Sprite cross.

Copley’s Corner
Vics trumped by Vanderworp By Andrew Copley
Two interstate greyhounds contested last Friday
night’s Group 2 Triple M Bendigo Cup (425m)
and, remarkably, they ran first and second.
Star Western Australian speedster Vanderworp
continued his sensational return from serious injury
with a dominant all-the-way victory over NSW star
Black Forge.
Trained by champion mentor Chris Halse and raced
by a large syndicate of former schoolmates from
Perth’s Wesley College, a number of whom were
trackside to celebrate, Vanderworp spent more than
six months on the sidelines after being scratched
from the Group 3 SA Derby Final (515m) last
September.
Since returning to the track in April, Vanderworp
has now won eight of his 12 starts, highlighted by
his sparkling front-running display in the $47,000 to
-the-winner Bendigo Cup.
“Three of us made the trip from WA to be here
tonight and if the race had of been on a Saturday
night there might have been ten of us here. It was
just a bit hard for a few of the guys to get the time
off work,” part-owner Peter Cameron said.
“There’s 16 of us in the syndicate and one of the
boys is going to keep him as a pet when he retires.”
In his second Victorian campaign, having qualified
for the Group 1 Maturity Classic semi-finals last
July before being struck down by injury,
Vanderworp won his Bendigo Cup heat in 23.82sec
and started on the third line of betting at $5.80 from
box two in the final.
Seona Thompson’s fastest qualifier Big Flood was
the $3.60 favourite from box seven, ahead of Bill
McMahon’s Bernardo, which started at $5.10 from
the five alley.
Vanderworp came out running and held out multiple
Group 1 winner Striker Light ($6.10) and Black
Forge ($8.20).
Vanderworp broke clear approaching the home turn
and kept going strongly to defeat Black Forge by 1.9
lengths in a fast 23.61sec, enhancing his imposing
career strike rate to 15 from 27 with his first group
success.
“The confidence levels were high going into the
race, as we know how good he is over 450m,”
Cameron said.
“He has been running some great sectionals at
Cannington and the 425m distance at Bendigo is
perfect for him. I love this dog and my four-year-old
daughter loves him as well.
“I own a few dogs, including Cropduster, who won
the Group 2 WA Oaks, and Mandjoogoordap
(named after a road in Mandurah), who won the
Group 3 Young Stars. It’s more lucrative for me
racing those dogs, but with Vanderworp it’s so much
more fun as I’m racing him with a bunch of mates.”
A superbly-related son of Kelsos Fusileer and High
Recall, Vanderworp has now emulated the deeds of
his ‘aunty’ Star Recall, which was a two-time Group
1 winner in Victoria, taking out the 2014 Sale Cup
and 2016 Super Stayers.
“I haven’t spoken to Chris (Halse) and Linda
(Britton) yet but I imagine they will be setting him
for the National Sprint Championship and he might
even return to Victoria for the Shepparton Cup,”
Cameron said.
Other feature action on Bendigo Cup night saw the
Hip Pocket Bendigo Winter Cup Final (660m) taken
out by I’m A Princess, trained by Dustin Drew, the
GRV Vic Bred Maiden Final (425m) won by Ashlee
Terry’s Hungry An’ Hollo, and the Ready To Race
Mid Year Bonus (425m) claimed by Extra Gear,
prepared by Ray Henness.
Vanderworp is all
smiles after
snaring his first
group win.

Copley’s Corner
Cleo takes it up to Tornado Tonight’s Group 2 McKenna Memorial (595m) at
Sandown Park has been thrown somewhat ajar
after the heats were conducted last Thursday.
After consecutive track record runs over 710m at
Albion Park, some expected the Robert Britton-
trained Tornado Tears to run close to Dyna Double
One’s 33.63sec track record over the 595m, however
his winning time of 34.12sec was only the third
fastest among the four heats.
His performance shouldn’t be underestimated,
however, as things didn’t go his way during the run,
and he did what he had to do in coming from mid-
field to win.
Time honours went to unheralded greyhound Neo
Cleo, who makes her first group final after a
dominant heat win in 33.95sec, where she led all the
way and ran three lengths quicker than Tornado
Tears.
Gippsland trainer Robert Neocleous was delighted
with Neo Cleo’s performance.
“She’s got that much talent and does her best when
she’s out in front on the lure,” Neocleous told
sandowngreyhounds.com.au. “From the 595m boxes
you have to come out fast or otherwise they can
block you in, and fortunately she’s jumping (out)
well at the moment.”
Victory in the McKenna would be Neocleous’
biggest win in the sport, with Neo Cleo drawn in Box
3 in Thursday night’s $40,000 to-the-winner final.
Meanwhile, dual Group 1 winning sprinter-turned-
stayer Out Of Range (Seona Thompson) scored a
narrow but impressive heat win in 33.97sec, just half
a length outside Neo Cleo’s time.
Out Of Range timed his run to perfection to
overpower Big Bang Tears (Robert Britton),
a greyhound who won seven in a row in NSW last
year and is starting to regain some form after an
extended period on the sidelines.
Tornado Tears is the $2.20 TAB favourite to win the
McKenna Memorial ahead of Out Of Range ($4.40),
Neo Cleo ($4.40), Hecton Bale ($8.50) and Big Bang
Tears ($10).

Vics feel the freeze
Victoria just missed out on a clean sweep of
Brisbane’s Winter Carnival when local greyhound
Jury took out the Group 1 Winter Cup (520m) on
Thursday night at Albion Park over star Victorian
sprinter Hasten Slowly (Jeff Britton).
Britton also had the $1.80 favourite, Mepunga
Blazer, who endured a suspected back muscle injury
in the run and missed a place. Mepunga Blazer, who
recently came out of retirement after a stint at stud, is
expected to spend a few weeks on the sidelines.

The Watchdog tips half the card
GRV form analyst, The Watchdog had a great night
out at Sandown Park last Thursday, selecting six of
the 12 winners.
Among them was Van Ann in Race 6, who The
Watchdog tipped on top and marked as a $3.30
chance. She won paying $7.70.
Then in Race 9 The Watchdog correctly tipped
Slingshot Hammer to win. Having marked the
greyhound at $2.80, he won at odds of $6.30.
Comparing The Watchdog’s market against the TAB
market gives punters the opportunity to identify any
runners of value.

greyhound race meetings including selections and

Greyhounds in the home
China and his girlfriend Cloudy.
Hana Mitchell
Tonight I had a pile of uber-expensive lamb loin chops
that instead of putting on defrost in the microwave I put
it on high cook (thus rendering them overcooked for
humans.) After spending ages carefully removing all
bones, I cut up the chops and fed them to Lolly for her
dinner. Okay, I've never cooked meat for her before but
did she have to put on such a right royal display of
scepticism at the offering. She stood at least 4 metres
from the bowl with her neck outstretched and nose
quivering. She maintained the German short haired
pointer stance for some minutes, then looked up at me
with a look that plainly said, "What is this shite?" She
walked up to the bowl. Sniffed it. Went outside. Came
back. Sniffed the bowl. Went onto her bed. "Dinner," I
called again in the tone of voice that usually causes her
to go into paroxysms of delight.
Her response was
to turn her head
away (see photo).
After another few
minutes she got up
and ambled over
to the chops,
which she
devoured in 2
gulps.
You can take a
princess to water
but you can't
make her drink...

FOSTER A GREYHOUND:
There are many greyhounds who need a little more
assistance to help them settle into pet life
They fall into two categories
Greyhounds who are transitioning from the track
and need help to pass their GAP assessment
OR
Those dogs who have been a marginal fail at their
GAP assessment
These dogs are just gorgeous happy greyhounds, the
only difference is that need a little more help to
transition into pet life
The reality is that without foster carers some of
these dogs are at risk
